9/18 in Asia, mostly Japan and China, they believe the Koi fish is a symbol of good fortune, perseverance and transformation. We learned about folk lore and how the legend is that koi fish swim upstream to become dragons.

9/11 today we painted landscapes and learned  about background, middle ground, and foreground.

8/28: Creating Nontan collage art.  A japanese medium where we work with negative and positive space, and light and dark.

9/4:  We painted Japanese Cherry Blossom tree’s. In Japan they have a festival, Hanami, where they celebrate the beauty of a Cherry Blossom Tree.

9/10: Working with water color techniques like, wet on wet, salt, and blotting.  Then we designed our own pagoda on styrofoam and making a stamp from it.

7/7: today we worked on science, math, creative writing, and we talked about Davinci and his art and his inventions. Then we created drawings of our own inventions.

I can hardly wait to see what Ms Kim has for us tomorrow!

Today we talked about Picasso and his art. We looked at Spain where Picasso was from and how it’s near the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean.  Then we talked about Fibonacci in math class and how he discovered these patterns in nature.  We looked at the sunflower and the pine cone.  Then we learned the parts of the leaf and we used a special technique to create our own leaf.

Tomorrow, please have kids wear clothes they can get messy in.  We have coverups, but paint always finds a way to the nicest piece of clothing.
