History - studied Chinese blue and white pottery and painted (on paper)our own vases.
Grammar - more capitalization and creative writing about our dream jobs
Math - order of operations and Roman numerals
Lit - chapter 5 and 6 of Shadow Spinner
Science - repeatability and reproducibility with experiments of breaking surface tension in water and using dry erase markers to make floating people
Aug 27
History - Taoism, sampled Asian snacks, made clay fortune cookies
Grammar - spelling test, started paragraphs
Creative Writing - character development
Math - factoring and prime vs composite numbers
Lit - listened through chap 8 of Shadow Spinner
Science - what makes up dirt

Sept 2 History - Buddhism origin and some of their beliefs.
Grammar - spelling test and creative writing - if you could make a signature drink, what are the ingredients? They were divided between tasty and possible to this you make you very sick.
Math - Greatest Common Factors
Lit - Chapters 10 and 11 of Shadow Spinner
Science - potassium, nitrogen, and potash in fertilizer. We had a good discussion about where ammonia comes from and which came first - the ammonia or bacteria.
Sept 3 History - learned about pagodas and drew them
Grammar - started learning ASL alphabet to help us feel our spelling words.
Creative Writing - you give a dinner party. Invite 7 people including the character you are working on. What do you serve? What interesting happens? Can be a short paragraph and due Sept 4.
Math - reviewed greatest common factor and started least common multiple
Lit - chap 12 in Shadow Spinner
Science - finished talking about phosphorus and potassium in feetilizer

Sept 4- history made Crane and butterfly origami
Grammar - worked on sign alphabet and did a mad lib
Math - started fractions - reducing and equalivent
Lit - listened to chaps 12 & 13 in Shadow Spinner

Sept 9
History - started Tang dynasty of China
Grammar - k through o in sign, punctuation usage
Math - review reduce fractions, change mixed numbers to improper fractions and improper fractions to mixed numbers
Lit -Chapters 15- 16  in Shadow Spinner
Science - ancient Greek scholars of science and medicine
Homework - creative writing - your character is not paying to something important. What is the consequence?

Sept 11 History - 9/11 discussion and finished our The Great Wave paintings
Grammar - continued learning sign alphabet, creative writing - everyone gave a word and we all created poems and short stories using them.
Math - finished adding fractions and moved on to subtracting them
Lit - listened to chaps 19 and 20 of Shadow Spinner

Sept 16 History - looked at the Song dynasty and had a very interesting discussion about silk v spider web
Grammar - finished sign language alphabet. Creative writing - pick a book, open to the middle, the first sentence is your writing inspiration
Math - fraction multiplication
Lit - chap 21 and half of 22 in Shadow Spinner.
Science - science during Roman Empire and alchemy

History - saw some common games of the Chinese and played Chinese Checkers
Grammar - creative Writing - What do you do at the end of a hard day? Pop quiz on capitalization and punctuation

Sept 24 - we made pin hole cameras that really worked!

Grammar *homework - have outline done for Wednesday and essay is due next Tuesday* had some fun with mad libs

Science - DNA and nucleotide pairs

Jan 28 another snow day and tomorrow will be on zoom, too.
History - we left India and moved east to Thailand. They are a peaceful people living on a beautiful chain of islands.
Grammar - essay check up. They are due next Tuesday. We also did a couple of Mad Libs
Math - converting compound measurements
Science - a criteria for life is recognizing and reacting to stimulus so we saw how our skin is equiped with sensors and what happens if we do not have them.

Feb 3 History - drew elephants for India

Math - more work on compound measurement
