Drake Southern - Head Coach

Drake is a born and raised corn fed Pleasanton native. He started swimming as early as six months old and has been an active participant in the swimming world ever since. He swam for the Castlewood Barracudas as a child and teen, going on to swim at Foothill Highschool where he earned the title of All American in swim. In college, he swam for the University of California Santa Cruz swim team where he became a cherished friend and teammate, as well as becoming the fourth fastest sprinter in Santa Cruz history. At the age of 15 he coached locally in the Tri Valley Recreational Swim League and ever since he has been working as a swim coach. Drake has since continued on to head coach for the Amador Highschool Swim Team, as well as working as a head coach for the Del Prado Stingrays, and on occasion will substitute coach for the Seahawks.

Katie Burch

Katie has been swimming since her junior high days when she saw one of the local swim teams practicing and decided that was a sport for her. She focused on distance and backstroke events once she joined her high school swim team in Antioch, CA.  She played water polo as well in high school but loved swimming, and after graduating from high school she has been on one Master’s team or another.  She also began doing open water swims and competing in triathlon during her undergrad days at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and continued this into her graduate school days at California State University Long Beach.  She has continued to compete in various USMS sanctioned meets and open water swims throughout her life.  She holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and has been a practicing physical therapist since 2004.  She was excited for the opportunity to apply her knowledge, experience and expertise in movement analysis, fitness training, and injury prevention into being a swim coach for the TriValley Master’s Swim Team.  To help her learn and hone swim coaching skills, she completed USMS Coaching Certification Levels 1-3 in 2022.  As a coach, she enjoys giving back to her swim community and hopes that all swimmers have a positive experience when she is on-deck.

Kyle Schempp

Kyle is a Bay Area native, born and raised in Pleasanton. He started swimming at about the age of 4 at Club Sport Pleasanton. When he was 16 one of the assistant coaching roles had opened, and he instantly jumped for the new opportunity. Through his stroke and conditioning sets, he helped improve his swimmers’ strokes, which lead the Tidal Waves to win multiple championships. Kyle’s favorite stroke is breaststroke, earning him a spot on his high school Varsity Team during his sophomore year. When he was not competing in swimming Kyle played water polo as a 2-meter defender. Starting this sport's journey in the 7th grade, he became Co-Captain of his high school team until he graduated. Kyle played water polo while he attended SJSU where he earned his BA in communications and minor in business in 3.5 years. After traveling abroad, he came back to the Bay Area, becoming our Monday and Wednesday AM coach in March 2022. He is a Red Cross-certified lifeguard. We enjoy his variety of challenging practices and his enthusiastic energy for the team. He has participated in multiple swim meets, and open water swims representing TVM. He is very passionate about coaching and enjoys seeing his fellow swimmers improve their swimming abilities.
