2012 ISHoF Masters Induction Ceremony The Masters Class of 2012: LtR Fred Fox, Tim Birnie, Brigitte Merten, Carolyn Boak, Mel Goldstein On Friday, September 14, 2012 the International Swimming Hall of Fame hosted the 2012 International Masters Swimming Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Greensboro, North Carolina. The ceremony was held in conjunction with the annual United States Aquatic Sports convention. Tom Boak, former President of USMS and husband of Honoree Carolyn Boak, emceed the event.
FINA Bureau Schedules 2015 World Masters Championships in Kazan, Russia LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND--A post by the Swedish Swimming Federation, Svenska Simförbundet (SSF), indicates that in July the FINA Bureau decided to merge the Masters Worlds into the main World Championships, beginning with 2015 in Kazan, Russia. This would mean that Masters Worlds would be held in 2014 (in Montreal, Canada), and then again the next year. The Bureau's intention is to make the World Championships larger, with 12,000-14,000 athletes. USA Swimming Names Eric Hansen and Chuck Batchelor as Head Coaches for Short Course Worlds USA Swimming announced its coaches for the 2012 Short Course Worlds in December in Istanbul, Turkey. FINA posts 2013 Open Water Swimming Events Schedule LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND--The FINA website now has posted the race dates for both of its 2013 Open Water circuits. Both the Grand Prix and the 10K series will begin on January 27, 2013, and continue through August (GP) and October (10K). The 2013 Grand Prix currently features 9 races, while the 2013 10K series features 8 races. Continued uncertainty in Ecudaor over elections for FENA Officers GUAYAQUIL, ECUADOR--Reports from Ecuador indicate that at the end of September the nation's Sports Minister held officer elections for 10 of Ecuador's sports federations. Among the 10 federations was the Ecuadorian Swimming Federation, Federación Ecuatoriana de Natación (FENA). The action by the government agency has caused the Ecuador Olympic Committee to not recognize the results from the elections, in part because proper procedure was not followed. Brazil's Ana Marcela Cunha tops in 2012 FINA 10K circuit in Hong Kong HONG KONG--Rhys Mainstone, Australia, and Ana Marcela Cunha, Brazil, were the top male and female at Saturday's seventh stop on the 2012 FINA 10K circuit in Hong Kong. On the male side, Mainstone finished in 1:57:36.20 ahead of Thomas Lurz, Germany (1:57:43.45) and Spyridon Gianniotis, Greece (1:57:45.05).
