Guadalupe Summer Swimming Begins!
GLENDALE NEIGHBORHOOD, UT — Yesterday RACE SWAMI kicked off it's first ever Summer Swim Program in conjunction with the Guadalupe School in Rose Park. Nearly 60 students from the Guadalupe School signed up to swim with USA Swimming certified SWAMI coaches for three days a week, for a half hour session each. The Guadalupe School Summer Swim program runs through the entire month of July.
The students' skills are beginner level—generally Learn-to-Swim Levels 1 and 2 and the youngsters are working to increase their basic skills and comfort in the water.
"These kids are really energetic about wanting to become better swimmers," SWAMI coach Erika Eisenman said. "We want to provide them with the tools necessary to be able to float comfortably, then to kick with some basic power, and to basically build the fundamentals of swimming the freestyle. If they can accomplish that then they're on their way!"
In all it was a terrific first day in the water, as many of the Guadalupe students noted. "It was a lot of fun," Alberto, a third grader said. "I hope we get to do a cannonball in the deep end the next time!"
If all goes well in the coming days and weeks, Alberto will likely have his chance.
