Race Swami Announces Fall Schedule

Race Swami Announces Fall Schedule

ROSE PARK  -- RACE SWAMI recently released it's new FALL 2012 TRAINING SCHEDULE, which kicks off the fall-spring swim season for the USA Swimming club on Monday, August 20th. With the schedule brings many new additions to last year's FALL-SPRING schedule.

Team President Leslie Motley formally announced the newest training group to Race Swami, dubbed RISING SWAMI II, a consordium of swimmers who have advanced to the intermediate stage on their path of competitive swimming.

"Our Rising Swami group as a whole was literally growing every week," Ms. Motley said. "The group became so large that we had to create sub-groups to support these kids and so the lanes wouldn't be so crowded and crazy. It's easier on the coaches too."

The original RISING SWAMI group debuted last fall with a group of about 12 swimmers. That number quickly swelled over the course of the next six months to more than 25 swimmers, with additional swimmers who were wait-listed over the summer due to room restraints. "The last thing we wanted to do was put too many swimmers in the lanes at once so the learning experience was compromised," said Motley. "We want our kids to have the best learning experience possible, so we had no option but to wait list some kids."

With the addition of RISING SWAMI II, there is now plenty of room for new youngsters to join the team. The group will be comprised of swimmers who can basically execute all four strokes successfully, and are ready for the next set of challenges in their learning path. Like RISING SWAMI I, the group will be directed by coach David Valdes, and will have the services of three coaches.

"We want to have the ability to move more kids up into the Junior Swami group," Valdes said. "Rising Swami II will provide that bridge."

There are actually three groups of RISING SWAMI I, all training at different times and locations. The same goes for RISING SWAMI II. Technically, that is six sub-groups the team is adding to the Fall Schedule.

With these groups, it will afford a lower number of swimmers per group and thus, more guidance provided by the coaches, because the numbers are manageable. There are now close to 40 RISING SWAMIs on the team.

According to Motley, scholarships are available to those families who qualify. More than 50% of members from Race Swami receive some financial support, made possible by grants from foundations.
