Race Swami Teams up with Judge Swim Community to Serve The Road Home

MIDVALE, UT -- On Tuesday, January 29th, young SWAMIs and their parents teamed up with the Judge Memorial Swim Community in serving meals at the Road Home Overflow Shelter in Midvale. Team parents from both Race Swami and Judge Memorial donated home cooked meals and goodie bags to serve to those families in need.

According to SWAMI team president, Leslie Motley, the crew of moire rthan 20 served 189 people, 111 of those who were children.

"The kids were so thrilled with their goodie bags and the families were thrilled to be fed a meal!," Motley exclaimed. "Many of our helpers were Judge/ Swami swimmers and they helped the kids carry their food to their beds."

SWAMI Sisters Eva (age 7) and Isabella Zamora (age 12) served dessert and handed out the goodie bags. "I just love to pitch in and help whenever I can," Isabella said. "This is why I love Race Swami... we're trying to make a difference."

Judge swimmer Brandon Weihl (16) mentioned how meeting kids at the shelter who were close to his age were really no different from any kid he knows from from Judge. "The only difference is they have hope for different things than maybe the kids I know. They hope for a home, or a really good meal. And thankfully, they get that support here (at the shelter) while their parents figure stuff out. But otherwise, they're no different and it's our duty to help them when we can and not judge. They're awesome kids and anyone of us at any given time needs help."

Over the past two years, Race Swami become more involved in volunteering at The Road Home. "Being based in the west side communities of Rose Park and Glendale, we feel like we have a duty to help our friends with service projects like this," Motley said. "The Road Home is a terrific, loving place with good people. We feel a kinship with them in serving families who might need some help for whatever reason. It's their mission, it;s our mission... and we feel it needs to be done. And best of all, our kids enjoy doing it. Making a difference--there is nothing more empowering than that."
