SWAMI High School Swimmers Perform Well at State Meets

PROVO, UT -- A number of Race Swami athletes competed in the Utah High School Athletic Association's (UHSAA) swimming championship meets held at BYU in Provo, Utah on February 7-9, 2013. In all, Race Swami swimmers recorded six individual medals (3 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze) between two classifications (5A and 3A divisions). Additionally, SWAMI swimmers played integral roles in two winning relays (1 in 5A, 1 in 3A, respectively) and another relay that finished 2nd in the 5A division.

Autumn Wolfgramm, representing West High School (5A classification) located in the west side community of Rose Park, led the way with two first place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. In doing so, she broke two school records, as well as two Race Swami records. She also was part of the winning 200 Medley relay, swimming the butterfly leg for the squad. Autumn finished off an epic meet with a spirited anchor race in the 4 x 100 freestyle relay that granted the school a silver medal finish and a 4th place finish overall in the 5A Girls' standings, the highest finish ever for West High Girls.

Allison Witte, representing Judge Memorial Catholic located in downtown Salt Lake City, finished 2nd in the 200-yard Individual Medley and added a 4th place finish in the 100 fly, touching the wall less than a half second behind the 3A winner in the race. She also led off the winning 200 Medley relay (backstroke leg). The Judge Memorial Girls team, which has won the 3A State title 9 of the past 11 years, finished 2nd overall in the standings. They were expected to finish 4th after losing more than 10 swimmers from last year's state winning squad.

Allison's teammate and fellow SWAMI cohort, Marcela Vasquez, raced in the winning 200 Medley relay as well, swimming the breaststroke leg for Judge memorial. Additionally, she finished 3rd in the 100-yard breaststroke and 8th in the 200-yard freestyle. Marcela's 100 breast time was good enough for a new SWAMI club record.

Amelia Wolfgramm, swimming for West High, finished 1st in the 100-yard backstroke and 2nd in the 50-yard freestyle, narrowly missing top honors by  less than a tenth of a second. She was also the lead-off swimmer for both the 200 Medley relay (1st place) and the 4 x 100 freestyle relay (2nd place).

Other SWAMIs who qualified for the State Meets were Victoria Berceau (Judge Memorial; 200 Free relay, 50 free, 100 back), Emma Kitterer (Judge Memorial, 100 fly), Connor Morgan (Judge Memorial; 200 Medley relay, 500 free, 100 back), Jason Motley (Judge Memorial; 200 Medley relay, 200 free, 100 free, 4 x 100 free relay), and Isabel Romano (Judge Memorial; 4 x 100 relay, 100 free, 100 fly).
