Wahoo Swim Academy Staff

Susan Pearson, Lesson Instructor and Lead Coach
Coach Susan joined RSA in the fall of 2021 as a lesson instructor and in-water coach. Prior to joining RSA, Coach Susan taught lessons for the City of Raleigh for ten years and coached the Millbrook Marlins Squirt Squad for seven years.
Coach Susan moved to Raleigh as a child and attended Broughton High School and East Carolina University. In addition to her time teaching for the City of Raleigh, Coach Susan spent over ten years in Europe ministering to children and their families walking in trauma as refugees. Swimming was the medium through which she was able to reach the children.
In addition to teaching lessons for Wahoo Swim Academy, Coach Susan coaches the introductory swim team practice groups, leading the Tarpon groups. Coach Susan is a trainer and entertainer at heart, helping children do what they do better and have fun doing it.
Coach Susan loves to travel, read, eat good food, and spend time with friends in her free time.
Emma Williams, Lesson Instructor and Lead Coach
Coach Emma was born and raised in Apex, NC. She attended Apex High School and graduated in 2014. After high school, she attended Marshall University in Huntington, W.V. and earned her B.A. in Elementary Education in 2018.
Coach Emma was a member of the Apex Breakers summer league swim team growing up, was a member of her high school swim team, and swam year-round with RSA from 2004-2011 and with YOTA from 2011-2014. After high school, she was a part of the Marshall University Women's Swim Team in 2014. Coach Emma's primary events were the 200 & 500 Freestyle and 200 Butterfly.
After college, Coach Emma started her career in education as an assistant teacher with Kindergarten for one year and transitioned to teach 8th Grade Mathematics for two years. During the summers from 2019-2022, she was the head swim coach for the Black Horse Run summer league team and also spent time teaching swim lessons around the triangle area.
Coach Emma joined RSA in the fall of 2023. Coach Emma's primary responsibilities are teaching swim lessons in Wahoo Swim Academy and assisting with the Seahorse, Tarpon, and Dolphin practice groups.
Off the pool deck, Coach Emma enjoys spending time with her husband as well as her two dogs and one cat. She is a dedicated member of her church and helps with the children's ministry. Coach Emma loves to workout, travel, drink coffee, and make all of her food from scratch including sourdough bread, pasta, and pizza!

Amy McKeown, Lesson Instructor and Assistant Coach
Coach Amy is originally from Ohio and graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia.
Coach Amy has been teaching and coaching swimming since 2008. In addition to teaching lessons for Wahoo Swim Academy, she is an assistant coach with the Tarpon group.
Coach Amy rediscovered her passion for swimming as an adult and began her journey in aquatics by teaching at the YMCA. She became a US Masters Coach in 2012 and is currently a Level 2 Masters Coach. She continues her journey in aquatics at RSA Masters practices and competes in open water events. She recently placed 2nd in her age group in the One Mile Hurricane Swim at Jordan Lake.
She finds working with children rewarding and has one daughter in middle school. She enjoys drawing, hiking and photography and has contributed to RSA with photography and graphic design.
