Marin Morrison was a local Paralympic swimmer who competed for WEST Coast Aquatics, Eastlake High School, and Shadow Seals. A junior national qualifier and state record holder as a high school freshman, she was well on her way to achieving her dream of competing in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. However, later that year she was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and given 6 months to live. Despite her diagnosis and partial paralysis, Marin continued to pursue her dream. In April of 2008 Marin earned a spot on the US Paralympic Swim Team for the 2008 Beijing Games. Tragically the following week she began hemorrhaging in her brain and it was unsure if she would make it to Beijing. From there her daily training sessions went from the pool to her hospital room at Children’s where her family watched as she continued to fight. Marin’s strength and determination helped her make the trip to Beijing and she was able to swim her races in the Water Cube alongside her immediate family and swim coach, Andy Hay.
January 2nd of 2009 Marin lost her fight. Her swim coach and family started the Marin Morrison Foundation in her honor and they are now starting to get off the ground.
