2019 Black vs Purple Meet

2019 Black vs Purple Meet Recap

What a great first meet of the season! The kids had a great time with the format of this one. There was lots of talk at practice about who was on what team, which team was going to win, who made better posters, etc. Great stuff!

It was a hard fought battle for sure. The Black Team proved to be a worthy opponent, battling like a champion in each and every race. Grit and toughness were personified by the Black Team on this day! The Black Team athletes rose to the challenge with a roar heard across the mountains into Eastern Washington and beyond. But Purple won.

Thank you to all the parents who were able to help run this meet. We cannot do it without your support. Thank You!!!

Highlights by Practice Group

Black Group

Great first meet of the season for our Black Group athletes!

The coaches thought they did a terrific job of working through warm-up, checking in with the coaches, and getting to their races. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a very good start.

The past several weeks we've been working on a lot of legal finishes for backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly, and I'm glad to see the kids incorporating those skills in their races! I would like to shout out Max Malinovskyi for dropping nearly 20 seconds in his 50 backstroke! -Coach Jason

The turns and finishes that we’ve been practicing we’re looking exceptionally legal.  Highlights would have to include Theresa Nguyen handily winning the 8&u 100 Br on her first swim of the event ever!  (She was the youngest by 2 years). -Coach Robin

During the meet we had some exciting swims, including some really nice 50 Fly swims from Gahl Ami ad, Hannah Ha and Eva Yu. Kiara Kiem had one of my favorite races with her 50 Free, sticking with her breathing pattern the whole way which really impacted her overall race. Great execution Kiara! -Coach Erin

White Group

The White group had a fantastic meet at the Purple vs Black meet.  There were over 250 successful timed results by the White group swimmers on Sunday with over 230 best times and 10 swims that were within a half second to a hundredth of a second off their best time.  The average time drop per race for the white group was 3.4 seconds, and we had an average improvement of 5.28% per race as a group.  92% of our swims were best times!  This shows that the group has really learned a lot in the first few weeks of the swim season and perhaps they have grown a lot too.  I did not count DQ swims for these calculations as there was no official timed result to compare the original best time against.

I wanted to highlight the top 10 biggest improvements at the meet.  Surabi Koundinya dropped over 26 seconds in her 100 Free!  Ian Chow dropped over 20 seconds in her 100 Back!  Aleksandr Mkrtchyan dropped just under 18 seconds in his 50 Fly!  Aarush Kapoor dropped over 13 seconds in his 100 Free!  Thomas Claux dropped 12 and a half seconds in his 100 Free!  Lavanya Sharma dropped over 12 seconds in her 100 Back!  Radha Shriram dropped 11 and a half seconds in her 50 Fly!  Shailja Tyagi dropped almost 11 seconds in her 50 Breast!  Daniel Chen dropped over 9 seconds in his 100 Free!  Srianvika Siram dropped over 9 seconds in her 50 Breast!  I also wanted to give a big congratulations to our swimmers that tried a new event at this meet.  Gwen Angus, Anton Mazepa, Kamilla Shapiro, and Alex Shibalov all swam an event for the first time at the swim meet!  Wonderful swimming White Group!

Purple Group

There were so many outstanding achievements by Purple it's impossible to list them all! Purple's swimmer of the meet was  Allie Bai with 2 new A times, both of which were PNS Champs cuts. Her 50 breast was less than 1 second from an AA time! Special mention also to  Annie Purkayastha, who got her first-ever A time, which was also a PNS cut. Other first-time standards included  Leo Zhu's BB time in the 50 back,  Arlene Shergill's B time in the 50 free, and  Sophie Lai's B times in the 100 back and 100 breast! Other notable swims included  Hailey Crawford Anouk Balog, and  Ethan Na all breaking the 30-second barrier in the 50 free as well as  Itai Ami ad's 21-second drop in the 100 IM,  Rashmi Joshi's 12.5-second drop in the 100 IM,  Neha Phatak's 12.5-second drop in the 100 free, and  Paolo Villanueva's 10-second drop in the 100 free.

SR Prep

Raymond Chen swam great at the Black v Purple meet, dropping at least 6 seconds in both his 100 Free and 100 IM, while also swimming in the 100 Fly for the first time. Ella Drazich dropped in all 3 of her swims, including an 11 second drop in her 100 Fly! Taryn Han looked great in her 50 Breast with a 4 second drop, and Julia Larsen followed that up with a 3 second drop in her 50 Breast, picking up an A time in the event. In all 3 of his events, Veico Lai dropped at least 2 seconds, including an almost 8 second drop in his 100 Breast on his way to an A Time. Owen Ledrick dropped 8 seconds in his 100 Back, 3 in his 100 Breast, and nearly 10 in his 100 Fly. Maja Loeser’s underwater dolphin kicks looked great in her 100 Back, helpling herself to an 8 second drop, while both Daniel Luckowski and Vidhi Mehrotra shaved 12 seconds off their best time in the 50 Fly. Finally, Joseph Nguyen dropped over 12 seconds in all of his swims, including a 23 second drop in his 100 Butterfly!

Senior

Senior had an amazing swim meet with lots of fast swims and a number of best times in the first short course meet of the season. The group was led by Alexander Werth going 3 out of 3 personal best times with almost 3 seconds drop in the 100 Fly.  Alexandru Popov, Vincent Ngo, Eleanor Miller, and Damien Bryant joined the “club” and also swam lifetime bests in all 3 events this weekend. Nicholas Imig had a fantastic 21 seconds drop in the 100 Breast while Maya Sawicka dropped 13 seconds in the 100 Fly. Kohki Kita had a standout 8 seconds drop in the 100IM. Isaiah Taylor recovered from a broken collarbone a couple of months ago to drop a full second in the 100 Fr. William Goings came strong to drop 6 seconds in the 100 Fr while Ameya Madhugiri and Graham Petersen shaved off another 2 seconds each in the same event. Other notable swims include Blake Nilsen (6 seconds drop), Yana Nanda (4 seconds drop), and Aditya Avadhanam (3 seconds drop) in the 100 Fly; Ella Reedy (3 seconds drop) in the 100 Breast and Abagail Bissett with a 2 second drop in the 100 IM.

Senior Elite

The Senior Elite kids had a very strong meet at the Purple V Black Meet.  The group started off the morning with a very challenging morning workout, and the focus in the evening practice was to swim with a strong focus on technique and a high level intensity.  The kids knocked it out of the park with some strong swims and it was great to see a lot of the technique changes coming along in a race setting.

The Senior Elite kids also did an amazing job leading both the Purple and Black Team practices and cheers.  The kids stepped up big time in developing team cheers for each group and did a great job teaching the rest of their team.  Also, we had some SR kids working with and coaching the younger kids over the weekend, it was great to see the older kids passing along their knowledge to the younger kids.

Great Job to the Senior Elite group.  And great work to the whole Black Team for putting up a good meet.  And congrats to the Purple Team on the Victory.
