2019 November Mini Meet Recap

Great swimming over the weekend at our first Mini Meet of the year. We had just over 100 athletes there at the meet on Saturday. A big Thank You to:

->Our officials!

->Our parent volunteers!

->Our coaching staff!

->Families who couldn’t make the meet but let the coaches know ahead of time!

This meet ran about as good as I’ve seen! It takes a ton of help to run even these short meets, so thank you for making it happen!

Relays

We started off the meet with our relays- four full heats of relays- so 96 athletes got a chance to have fun racing as part of a relay team!

Congrats to the ‘C’ Relay of Eva Yu, Lena Duryee, Gavin Drazich and Ella Johnson on winning the relay! They just out-touched the ‘A’ Relay of Daniel Chen, Ron Levin, Sophia Gorveatt and Zoe Piepkorn. The ‘J’ Relay of Bailey Tang, Pradhyot Kore, Nimi Oladosu and Rashmi Joshi finished in third.

Black Group Highlights

I think overall out Black Group athletes did a great job of taking care of the non-swimming things such as warming up, checking in with the coaches, being early to their races, and having fun at the meet. Those non-swimming things are so important!

In the pool there was lots of good racing going on! I saw some outstanding effort in races from Deming Gates, Sophia Gorveatt, Olivia DeAmicis, Nicole Tanto, Eva Yu, Pradhyot Kore, Magnus Sehlin, Kamilla Bugaitsova, Kiara Kiem. Great job swimming with energy and enthusiasm! Sophia Gorveatt made her first PNS Gold Time in the 50 Free, joining the other two Black Group AGI Qualifiers- Indio Balog and Lasya Viswanadham. Sophia won’t be able to swim at the AGI as she had to make the standard by the previous weekend, but it’s awesome that she did it! -Coach Erin

Black’s B team laid down some impressive losses in free and backstroke this Mini meet.  In backstroke they lost a total 26 seconds (Saamiya, Carlo, Jessica and Kunaal contributing), and another 27 seconds in Freestyle (Saamiya, Theresa, Senul, Abby, Kylie, Jessica and Disha!).  A very honorable mention to Saamiya who dug deep for a beast mode that tore 11.5 seconds off her free, and 12.65 seconds off her backstroke. Kudos to all!  -Coach Robin

Overall group C for the Black group had a great meet! Since the beginning of the season, we have worked on getting our backstroke finishes to be legal and we'll done. The kids' hard work is really showing, as no one was disqualified in the 25 back! I also want to give a shout out to Amber, Arvin, Yihan, Raelynn, Vien, George, Ally and Kyra, who all swam in their first meet. Great job you guys! -Coach Jason

White Group Highlights

The white group had a very good mini meet.  The only distance available was 50s for this meet, and we have reached the point in the season where almost all of the swimmers have already swam each of the 50 events this season.  We do not expect time drops that are as large when comparing the new swim times to our times from last month versus our times from last year.   We still averaged a drop of .2 seconds per race.  We especially had large drops in our 50 Fly event.  Fly has been a focus at practice the last couple weeks, and it showed.  Here were the top 10 time drops of the mini meet: Shir Dropped 10.2 seconds in her 50 Fly!  Shailja dropped 8.7 seconds in her 50 Fly and 3.1 seconds in her 50 Free!  Maria dropped 7.8 seconds in her 50 Breast and 3.4 seconds in her 50 Free!  Aayona P. dropped 5.2 seconds in her 50 Fly and 4.4 seconds in her 50 Breast!  Arnav A. dropped 4.9 seconds in his 50 Fly!  Ron dropped 4.1 seconds in his 50 Free!  Arnav J. dropped 3.4 seconds in his 50 Fly!  Great job white group!

Purple Group Highlights

Purple had several outstanding swims at the mini meet, led by Carr Chellis who achieved a gold time in his 50 back with a 30.89, which was the fastest ever by a Purple swimmer! Carr also dropped 11 seconds in his 50 breast! Other great swims included Aarohi Gandhi, who dropped 10 seconds in her 3 events, including a B time in her 50 free; Neha Phatak dropped almost 3 seconds in her 50 fly; Mutian Gao dropped 3.6 seconds in his 50 breast; Rashmi Joshi had two new B times in her 50 free and 50 fly; and Julien Wang, Bill Wang, and Victor Zhang all dropped considerable time in their 50 breast.
