Group Highlights
Black Group
Black had two athletes at the meet which is awesome!
Indio Balog swam on Saturday and had two best times in his two races. I was especially proud of his turn on his 50 Back; he nailed the turn going in and did a legitimate kickout coming off the wall which helped him knock over three seconds off his best time. In his 50 Free, he did a great job with his breathing plan and dropped a second and a half in that race.
Lasya Viswanadham swam on Sunday, and she was nervous, but she did great. She did DQ on her 100 Back, but she knows how to adjust that for next time, and her time in that would have been a huge drop for her. She was right on her best time in the 50 Breast, and finished 18th out of 26 athletes in that race- which is terrific for the only 8-year-old in the event!
White Group
The white group had another fantastic meet at the Age Group Invite meet. There were over 80 successful timed results by the white group swimmers this weekend with forty-four best times and six swims that were within a half second to a hundredth of a second off their best time. The average time drop per race for the white group was .89 seconds. This is especially impressive as we have already swam most of these races in the last two months. We had six new Pacific Northwest Swimming Championship cuts achieved at this meet by white group swimmers. Thomas Claux achieved the 100 Fly and 200IM cuts! Lena Duryee achieved the 500 Free cut! Lena deserves an honorable mention for the 100 back too. She swam fast enough for the cut, but was disqualified on a turn. Anton Mazepa achieved the 50 Back, 100 Back, and 200 IM cuts! We now have four swimmers from White group qualified for PNS, and we have three relays with white group swimmers that qualify for PNS as well. We currently have the girls 10 & U 200 medley relay, the girls 10 & U 200 free relay, and the boys 10 & U 200 medley relay! We are also really close (1.29 seconds away) in the boys 10 & U 200 free relay with the Fall Divisional meet as a last chance to get some faster times in the 50 free event. So keep those calendars open for the PNS Champs meet on December 19th-21st!
The top ten time drops from the meet for the white group: Kyle F. dropped 16.8 seconds in the 200 Free and 7.8 seconds in his 100 Back! Daniel C. dropped 15.2 seconds in the 200 Free! Anton M. dropped 14.2 seconds in the 200 Free! Ella J. dropped just under 9 seconds in the 200 Free and 5.7 seconds in the 100 Back! Oliver Y. dropped 8.3 seconds in the 100 Back! Oliver W. dropped 8.2 seconds in the 100 Free! Nimi O. dropped just under 7 seconds in the 100 IM! Grady D. dropped 6.2 seconds in the 100 Free! Rahul P. dropped 5.7 seconds in the 100 IM! That is actually eleven top drops because the 10th best drop of 5.7 seconds was a tie between Rahul and Ella. I also wanted to congratulate three swimmers who successfully swam a race for the first time at the AGI. Thomas swam the 100 Fly for the first time, Surabhi swam the 200 Free for her first time, and Bailey swam the 200 IM for the first time. Wonderful swimming white group!
Purple Group
Congrats to everyone who swam! This was one of Purple's best meets of the past two years! Each swimmer had at least one best time and we achieved many new PNS cuts. There are too many highlights to include them all, so I'll just mention a few: Leo Zhu was our swimmer of the meet with 6 best times, and all by a large amount, most notably his 200 back and 500 free. Allie Bai earned her first AA time in the 50 breast and won the 500 free by 0.39 second in one of the most exciting races of the meet (as well as dropping 26 seconds). Matthew Choy led the start of every single race due to his exceptional streamlines and dropped 11 seconds in the 100 back. Carter Drazich had 6 best times, including a phenomenal finish in his 50 fly where he just missed qualifying for Regionals. Iris Huang also just missed Regionals in her 50 breast by dropping 2 seconds. Maddy Kelly captured her first A time in winning the 50 back, as well as earning a PNS cut. Cora Ledrick had an incredible 100 free, dropping 5 seconds and achieved multiple PNS cuts. Aiden Li swam his first 400 IM and went 35 seconds below the PNS cut! Kyle Li and Boris Shakhov both had incredible 500 swims, dropping more than 9 seconds each. Ethan Na picked up his first 28 in the 50 free leading off the free relay. Annie Purkayastha had several excellent swims, most notably her 50 back where she achieved an A time. Daniel Xia had 6 best times and multiple PNS cuts, including winning the 100 free.
SR Prep
Three swimmers, Shea Skarda, Sonny Nguyen, and Cameron Piepkorn lead the group with 6 new best times in the meet, including a new Champs cut for Shea in the 100 Breast and a new Regional Cut and Team Record for Cameron in the 200 Breast! Taryn Han, Andy Wang, Aarjav Jain, and Jaiden Sreenivasan picked up 5 new best times in their 6 races. Included in those swimmers meets were a 17 second drop for Aarjav in his 500 Free, a 10 second drop in Andy's 100 Free, Taryn dropping 9 seconds in her 100 Free, and a 2 second drop in Jaiden's 100 Fly. Other notable swims include Artur Sobol's 8 second drop in his 200 back, Daniel Sawicki's 6 second drop in his 50 Fly, and Vidhi Mehrotra's 3 second drop in her 200 IM.
Senior
The Senior Group came strong for their last swim meet before Champs Season. We got a few new PNS cuts plus a number of best times. Priyanka Kulkarni dropped almost 2 seconds to swim a personal best and get a new PNS cut in the 200 Breast. An inspired Yana Nanda dropped 1.5 seconds to get her PNS cut in the 50 Back while Nicholas Imig added the 50 Breast to his PNS schedule. Both Abagail Bisset and Alexander Werth went 4 lifetime bests. Her outstanding swim was the A Time in the 100 Free while he dominated the 200 Free with a 3 seconds drop in a fantastic race. Maya Sawicka has been improving her Backstroke and dropped 4.5 seconds in the 200 plus another 3.5 seconds in the 100. The group was also well represented in the distance events with an outstanding swim for Alexandru Popov who dropped 10 seconds in the 400IM and Ella Reedy who shaved another 5 seconds off in the 500 Free to get an A Time.
Senior Epic
The Senior Epic group had a strong showing at the November AGI with a bunch of fast swims and new cuts. Congrats to all the kids in the group on a great weekend. And great job to the whole team on an awesome meet.
Stand-Out Swims:
Fred Larsen – Freddie dropped just over 3 seconds in the 200 back to go a best time and to get his first SR Champs Cut.
Ella Marzec – Ella dropped over 2.5 seconds in her 200 IM for a best time and great race showing improvement in all four strokes.
Renee Yin – Renee had a great 200 back going a best time in over a year in the event.
Steffen Teutsch – Steffen might have slept through warm ups, but he was awake for his events over the weekend going a best time in four of his events with a stand out 4 second drop.
