Highlights by Group:

Black

Great Job Black Group! Lots of new athletes, lots of new procedures, but they did a great job of adapting and stepping up to race. We also had a number of athletes swim races they’d never done before or had not completed successfully. Easily, more than half the races were new for the group, so there were some challenges there but they handled it well. The coaches are very proud of how they did with our first meet of the year. Their efforts at practice and in the meet make it easy to write up a recap!

Phoebe Angus looked especially good in her 50 Free, and completed her first ever 50 Back.

Deniz Cankaya completed his first ever 50 Fly and did an amazing job in his 50 Free.

Ellen Feng transformed into a speed boat for her 50 Free, and completed her first ever 50 Fly.

Sarina Gibson in her first meet with us did an awesome job racing on Sunday and getting a 50 Free time established.

Abby Gray completed the 50 Back and 50 Free for the first time, with a sub minute time in her 50 Back first time out.

Caleb Hansen completed all four 50’s for the first time, racing really tough and strong.

Olivia Henaire completed three 50’s for the first time and swam with excellent effort tosome strong results.

Fiona Herman was awesome on Sunday with a huge drop in her 50 Free and a first time completion in her 50 Fly.

Keshav Iyer dropped to a new best in the 50 Free and completed the 50 Back for the first time.

Rylan Jones completed three 50’s with Wave for the first time and looked really strong with her strokes.

Arvin Kandiah, known in the Black Group as The Eraser, knocked out a new best time in his 50 Free and new completion in his 50 Fly.

Kylie Kennedy brought her usual positive energy to the pool on Sunday and swam awesome in both races, posting a first time 50 Free result.

Anika Lichtenberg AKA the Bergermeister posted first time results in her 50 Back and 50 Free.

Alex Lobdell has been working really hard on his breaststroke in practice and he showed off his new skills on Saturday winning the event.

Eleanor Lopez was stellar in her races and showed the coaches some things we were excited to see from her.

Jonah Lynn completed both the 50 Back and 50 Free for the first time, with strong times in both races.

Maxim Malinovskyi swam a strong new best time in his 50 back, using his strong kick to power him through the race.

Taylor O’Brien completed her first ever 50 Back and 50 Free races with Wave.

Mila Paulus was awesome this weekend, and completed three of her races for the first time.

Anna ‘Prime Time’ Primavera completed three races for the first time, racing hard in everything.

Brooklyn Ramirez used the skills she’d been working on at practice to complete her first ever 50 Back.

Beata Sobol looked like a seal with how well she flowed through the water to four new best times and a really nice swim in her 50 Free.

Arnold Tanto swam so great, and was so close to getting several new completions under his belt. He also posted a huge improvement in his 50 Free.

Vedah Tuladhar completed her first ever 50 Fly, and swam a terrific 50 Free.

George Ursulenko was amazeballs in his 50 Free, looked like some kind of jet boat out there….

Audra Whitbeck had a terrific weekend of racing. We loved the energy she brought to her races, and she completed three new races with Wave.

Joshua Xia completed the 50 Back, 50 Breast for the first time, and swam a strong new best in his 50 Free.

Katherine Yi completed the 50 Back and 50 Free for the first time and showed the coaches some great skills she’s been working on at practice.

Isshin Yokoyama completed his 50 Free for the first time using his strong kick to push him to a sub minute time.

Ally Yuan did the PTS (Portland to Seattle) on Sunday, then dove in the water and looked super in her 50 Fly and 50 Free.

Lucas Zhang was so much fun to watch race, and he completed the 50 Back and 50 Free for the first time.

White

White group landed 27 first legal swims, including several in our group who slam dunked all their first swims legally; Edward, Louisa, Alizeh, Ella, Molly and Max (3 firsts)!  Rather wildly awesome.  We found some glide, length and power, resulting in a collective 193 seconds lost!  Gone like yesterday.  Largest contributors were Rajanya (-13), Ela (-14), Nora (-15s), Hannah (-15), Chloe (-16s) and Richelle with a whopping 35s lost.  Good riddance.  We also minted some new B times achieved by Lauren (br), Kiara (fl, fr), Shir (fr & fly, her new favorite stroke), Theresa (phenomenal bk), Gahl (revolution in br), and Vien, whose powerful breaststroke earned her a first ever B time!   We even had two swimmers earn their first BB times: Indio, charging through the 50 back, and Olivia who only has one gear (6th!), earned her first three BB times.  Kudos, all of white group- you came, laughed, froze, supported friends and gave it everything you had.   You won the meet, whether or not you won your heat.

Purple

The first meet of the season was a roaring success, with Purple swimmers achieving best times in 85% of their races! Swimming in their first-ever USA meet were Chelsea HaggartPenelope HepkinAiden HonjayaIshana Pathak, Shayan Gavandi, and Jonathan Yu

Qualifying for new national motivational time cuts were Barun Acharya (BB in the 50 breast and B in the 50 free), Aarohi Gandhi (B in the 50 back), Peter Hansen (B in the 100 back and 100 free), Varshini Hari (B in the 50 free), Nikhil Kadam (B in the 50 free), Aditi Kandiah (B in the 50 free), Reyhan Kondapally (B in the 50 free), Yemi Oladosu (B in the 50 free), Neha Phatak (B in the 100 back and 100 free), and Arlene Shergill (B in the 50 breast)!

Age Group

The AG Select team had a fantastic meet.  There were over one hundred and one successful timed results with ninty one best times and another six swims that were within a half second of their best time.  The average time drop per race for the white group was 2.13 seconds.  This is especially impressive considering that all of the races were just 50s and we had a few occasions were goggles fell off or filled with water during the race.   90% of our races were a best time!  The group is getting much better at doing their skills at practice, but I see a ton of room to improve during our races.  Breathing off the wall in Free and Fly being one of the main things I see that we can improve on for our skills during our races.  The good news is that once the swimmers practice these skills correctly in their races like they do in practice, we will see even more time drops.

The top 10 biggest time drops from the meet (one drop per swimmer.  There are eleven times because the 10th and 11th drop were so close I included an extra)

Karolina dropped -8.28 seconds in the 50 Back!

Ron dropped -6.22 seconds in the 50 Fly!

Lasyapriya dropped -5.9 seconds in the 50 Fly!

Kirsten dropped -5.1 seconds in the 50 Fly!

Siana dropped -4.96 seconds in the 50 Breast!

Lena dropped -4.24 seconds in the 50 Fly!

Kyle dropped -4.01 seconds in the 50 Breast!

Gwen dropped -3.84 seconds in the 50 Fly!

Kamilla dropped -3.72 seconds in the 50 Free!

Anindita dropped -3.26 seconds in the 50 Fly!

Rahul dropped -3.25 seconds in the 50 Breast!

Great Job AG Select!

SR Prep

Sr Prep was strong in their return to competition! They are already looking forward to this upcoming weekend’s swim meet to show off their ability to adapt from one weekend to the next. Standout performances:

Rik Brusilovski went 4 for 4 on best times, including a nearly 20 second drop in his 100 Back.

Noah Sattari swam 2 A Times in his return to racing after nearly an entire year of no swim meets. His 4 best times highlighted by a 55 second 100 Free and his first sub 26 in a 50 Free.

Julia Larsen was exceptional in her 100 Free, using strong dolphin kicks on every pushoff to grab an AA Time on her way to a new AA time in the swim. She dropped in all 4 events, including a 2.5 second drop in the 100 Back and a 5 second drop in the 100 Breast.

Maddy Kelly swam a fantastic 100 Back, dropping over 3 seconds on her way to a new A Time in the event!

Daniel “DSaw” Sawicki swam a very strong meet, including a nearly 2 second drop in the 50 Free, helping him to go under the 28 second barrier for the first time. Carter Drazich also showed off some new speed in the 50 Free, slashing over a second from his best time to see a “29” on the board for the first time in his career.

Jaiden Sreenivasan dropped over 2.5 seconds in all 4 of his races, picked up 3 new A Times, and dipped under the 1:00 mark in the 100 butterfly for the first time thanks to strong underwater dolphin kicks!

Andy “Big Z” Wang dropped at least 2.5 seconds in each event he swam this weekend including his first official time under 1:00 in the 100 Free, despite the quick turnaround from the 100 Fly.

High School

Good first meet over the weekend, it was great to see the athletes at a meet racing! I hope everyone enjoyed the meet experience!

Some highlights from the weekend included:

Ori Ami ad swam all best times, and the things he’s been working on stuck for his races.

Boston Borg also swam all best times, and really brought energy and intensity to his swims.

Will Goings swam a Wave best time in his 50 Free brining lots of energy to that race.

Ann Huynh looked solid in all her races, and raced tough on her 100 Fly.

Daniel Luckowski swam all best times, with some good drops in his 100 Back and 100 Breast.

Ameya Madhugiri looked long and smooth in all his races, and finished everything strong.

Vidhi Mehrotra looked especially good in her freestyle races and posted best times in those.

Zoe Meyer swam best times in her 100 Back and 50 Fly, the latter she’s been working especially hard to upgrade!

Joseph Nguyen raced really strong and showed strong improvements in his Back and Free events.

Samuel Yi looked strong in all his races and raced hard to three new best times.

Senior 1

Senior 1 had numerous outstanding swims in our first Intrasquad Meet. Let’s start with the fantastic race between Blake Nilsen and Vincent Ngo where they tied in the 100 Back to set a new lifetime best for both. Vincent also went under 25 seconds in the 50 Free for the first time and Blake dropped another 6 seconds in the 100 Breast. The group has been improving on their underwater dolphin kicks and we had lots of significant drops in the 100 Back. Raymond Chen dropped 12 seconds, Damien Bryant dropped 5 seconds, Nicholas Imig had a 2,5 seconds drop, and Ella Drazich dropped 2 seconds. The Breaststroke crew was led by Alexandru Popov who came strong to the meet and dropped 3 seconds in the 100 Breast to get his first A Time! He also went under 30 seconds in the 50 Breast for the first time ever. Carr Chellis went a best time in the 100 Breast with an impressive 8 seconds drop and Kohki Kita also dropped 6 seconds. Melis Gursoy and Matthew Yi swam a personal best time dropping 3 seconds each in the same event. In the 100 Fly Aadhav Saravanan and Artur Sobol dropped 5 seconds each while Owen Ledrick swam almost 2 seconds faster than his old time to get a new personal best.

Senior Epic

SR Epic had a great weekend of swimming and everyone was excited to get back into the water and start racing again.  We had some great swims with almost everyone in the grouping going at least one best time.  I am excited to see how the kids keep the good times rolling this upcoming weekend with some longer events.

A few stand out swims:

Alex Werth – 6 second drop in his 100 Back

Fred Larsen – 2.5 second drop in his 100 Fly (Freddy was 4 for 4 on best times)

Suhas Kannam – 1.5 second drop in his 100 Back (Suhas was also 4 for 4 on best times)

Isabella Bono – 1.5 second drop in her 100 Fly (Bones went 4 for 4 on best times)

Grace Liu – 4 second drop in her 50 Back

Great Job to the SR Epic Group and Great Work to ALL the WAVE swimmers this past weekend.

Great Job to all the WAVE Swimmers on a fun and safe return to competition!
