PNS Champs: 15&O
Senior PNS Champs
For the third weekend in a row (Dec 17-19), Wave had another phenomenal meet at KCAC in Federal Way, this time from our 15&O swimmers!
Overall, Wave finished 9th for the three meets combined. Way to go Wave swimmers!
Senior Epic
Senior Epic had a phenomenal meet! It was so exciting to see many amazing swims, and especially how enthusiastic and happy they were after their races. In addition, a special shout-out to everyone who swam a relay this meet! All the hard work you have put in during the season has paid off. Congrats!! Enjoy some highlights from each swimmer in the group:
- Fredrik Larsen was determined to pick up another Futures cut. So he did! With consistent dolphin kicks and a powerful finish, he got his second Futures cut, this time in the 200 Back. Fredrik placed fourth in both 100 and 200 Back, scoring 30 points for Wave! He went a total of four best times, including a fantastic 7-second drop in the 500 free.
- Kyler Brumfield got an early Christmas gift, earning her first-ever Sectionals cut in the 500 Free with an impressive 10-second drop (Ho Ho Ho!). Besides that, she dropped 44 seconds in the 1000 Free and crushed her 200 Back, breaking the 2:10 barrier for the first time. Kyler scored in three events (500, 1000, 1650 Free)!
- Kaitlyn Blackmon qualified for finals in almost all her events with many great swims, but her breast was especially strong at the meet. She achieved her personal best in the 100 Breast during finals after swimming close to her time in prelims and in the breast leg of the 400 medley relay. Kaitlyn also scored points in the 50 Back where she dropped a half second to get a new personal best.
- Andrea Wu qualified for finals in all six events, went three best times, and scored points in the 50 Fly by dropping a whopping 1.10 seconds! Andrea dominated the 200 events with strong swims in the 200 Free and 200 Fly, dropping 2.16 seconds in the former and 1.62 seconds in the latter.
- Alexandru Popov had an amazing meet, going four best times and making finals in the 50 Breast where he won the C final! Swimming with a spectacular tempo, Popov dropped 1.38 seconds between prelims and finals in that event. He also had a fantastic 100 Breast where he dropped almost a full second.
- Jenna Kimborowicz scored points for Wave in both the 1000 and the 1650 Free, dropping 37 seconds and 10 seconds respectively. Jenna was just 1,5 seconds off the Sectional cut in the mile! Besides that, she also went best times in the 50 and 200 Back, coming home with a total of four personal bests!
- Grace Liu went 3-of-3 best times and made two finals (50 Free and 50 fly). Her outstanding swim was the 50 Fly where she dropped 0.74 second and scored points for Wave! She also had a fantastic 100 Free, swimming 55 seconds for the first time.
- Tyler Kong finished the year strong and brought home five new best times. He also swam his first finals at Champs due to a strong and fast 50 Breast! His other outstanding swim was the 100 Breast where he dropped almost a full second.
- Elizabeth Reedy, after a hard first day, came determined to swim better and did an excellent job in the 100 Free and 100 Back, going best times in both events. She dropped time in fourevents in her last meet of the year.
- Lola Reynolds led the 400 Free and 800 Free relays and achieved best times in all her free events (50, 100, and 200). This is the second meet back-to-back that Lola dropped time in the 200 Free, going 0.79 second faster than the last meet and is definitely off the plateau.
- Alexander Werth swam right at his times in almost all his events, but he was ready for much more, so he finally did what he wanted in the 200 Breast, swimming strong and smooth to drop 1.37 seconds. Note: he dropped 6 seconds in the same event a month ago!
- Suhas Kannam demonstrated all his talent and racing skills during the weekend and came home with four best times despite not training as much during the season. His outstanding swim was the 100 Free where he held his stroke together until the end, dropped 0.61 second, and almost broke the 50-second barrier.
- Gianna Tan was very happy with her new personal best times during the weekend (100 Breast, 100 Fly, and 50 Back). Her stand out swim was the 100 Breast where she put together a powerful stroke and dropped almost 2 seconds.
- Renee Yin struggled the whole season with an ankle injury that prevented her from doing the full program. Still, she came ready to race hard in all five of her events. The 200 IM and the 100 Back—where she swam just a bit off her best times but felt good in the races—were her best swims at the meet.
Senior 1
The Senior 1 Group sent three swimmers to the 15&Over PNS Championships. All three swimmers performed incredibly well over the weekend, each achieving at least one best time. One achieved best times in every single race! It was awesome to see the training kick in and see them execute the race strategies we have talked about and race with some real fire!
- Grant Gallagher had several incredible swims. He was at his best or dropped in all six of his events. He started the meet off with a huge drop in the 100 Breast, a time he has been struggling to beat for two years. He then continued to roll, dropping time in every other event moving forward, even qualifying for finals on the last day of the meet in the 50 Breast, and proving to be a valuable member of relays!
- Cameron Piepkorn brought heat to every race of the weekend. He began with best times in the 100 fly and 100 breast, then proceeded to drop even more time swimming the 100 Fly in the 400 medley relay. His streak continued as he dropped in the 200 breast and had a monster 50 Free in the 200 relay. He finished the meet with a trip to finals and another best time in the 50 Breast!
- Owen Ledrick started out the meet on a wonderful note, going back-to-back best times in the 50 Free in the relay and as an individual event. He stepped up huge for the team over the weekend leading off the toughest relay of the meet (the 800 free relay), going just shy of his best time as the fourth swim of the day. He also led off the 400 free relay, blasting his way to a new best 100 Free time!
