Spring Fling Recap

Wave sent nearly 70 swimmers to the Spring Fling meet, which included all the top teams in PNS and capped off the Short Course season for our Age Group swimmers. The 10&Unders were especially competitive since this was essentially their State Champs meet. Wave had yet another awesome performance, including 11 wins! The meet was capped by Lola Reynolds’ four 1st places (including a sweep of the Free races) and Alex Lobdell’s 50 Free where he not only earned his first AAA time but broke the 10&Under Boys Team Record with a 28.26!

Age Group Select

We brought a large, psyched-up contingent to Spring Fling ready to race and ready to cheer! The group did an awesome job of supporting not just each other, but the whole team, and the result was a lot of fantastic swims! Lauren Hizzey deserves a special shout out as one of only two Wave swimmers to win multiple events!

Senior 1

The Senior 1 group had 16 swimmers compete at the Spring Fling Meet this past weekend. Everyone showed up with their game faces on and ready to get down to business. Overall, the group performed incredibly well. We had tons of best times and placed very high in all our races. It was absolutely amazing to see them put it all out there and see the success they have achieved through all their hard work. It makes me optimistic about what this group can accomplish this upcoming season.

  • Boston Borg has been dealing with a knee injury lately, but he did not let that stop him from having a great meet. He was right on his best time in the 100 and 200 Free. His best race of the meet came in the 100 Back where he absolutely blasted on his way to dropping 2.7 seconds.
  • Carr Chellis has been working on getting back into the swing of things after some setbacks he experienced earlier this season. He came out this weekend and put his best foot forward and it really showed. His best swim came in the 50 Fly, where he dropped more than 1 second.
  • Ray Chen continues to lead the fly gang of the group. They posted amazing swims in both the 200 and 50 Fly dropping 2 seconds in the 200 and finally going under 2:10 and dropping 1.26 seconds in the 50 to go a 26 for the first time.
  • Alex Claux has been focusing mostly on sprint training across all four strokes. His improvements in backstroke and butterfly have been quite substantial but his most amazing swim came in the 100 Back where he dropped 1.5 seconds and just barely missed breaking the 1:00 barrier. Next time out he will be under for sure.
  • Aarjav Jain has had a great season and has seen his freestyle events improve greatly. This meet would be no different as he turned in huge swims in both the 100 and 200 Free, going best times in both and breaking into the 1:53s for the first time in the 200.
  • Spandana Kannam has been focused mostly on breast and fly training and it has paid off already. She posted awesome swims and best times in both the 50 Fly and 50 Breast, dropping more than 1 second in both races.
  • Ben Lam has been training very well all season and has just been waiting for a meet where he really pops. This meet was that for him as he achieved new best times in every single race. The most exciting swim where he finally put it together for the whole race was the 100 Free as he dropped 1.65 seconds and skipped 54 all together, going from 55 to 53.
  • Kyle Li has been turning in great swims in the mid distance events all season and this meet would be no different. On his quest to go under 2:00 in the 200 Free, he has taken the next step going 2:00 for the first time. He is feeling good and will be under the next time he swims the race.
  • Vidhi Mehrotra has had an awesome season, achieving best times at every single meet she has attended. This meet would be no different for her as she was all business on her way to three more best times. Her top race came in the 100 Fly where she dropped 1.98 seconds. Over the course of the season, she has dropped almost 10 seconds in the race.
  • Anna Nguyen has been working hard to get her endurance back up as well as increasing her sprint speed. She put up three great swims over the weekend. She was right on her best time in the 50 Breast and is feeling good about what she can do moving forward.
  • Joseph Nguyen improved immensely this season across the entire spectrum of races. He has been improving his practice habits and is making great progress. The work he has put in showed in his 100 IM where he dropped 1.10 seconds and went under 1:10 for the first time.
  • Sonny Nguyen stepped up and put everything he had into all his races and was rewarded with four new best times. He is a very versatile swimmer who can be competitive in any event. His best races on the weekend where the 50 Breast where he dropped 0.93 and the 100 Free where he dropped 1.09 seconds and broke into the 53s for the first time.
  • Aadhav Saravanan has been focused mostly on longer distance events; unfortunately, those were lacking at this meet. He didn’t let this get him down though as he stepped up and swam the shorter events quite well. His best race came in the 200 IM where he dropped another 0.5 second after having a huge drop in the race just last month.
  • Shaur Shrivastava has focused on his backstroke events this season and his hard work has paid off handedly. He turned in new best times in both the 50 and 200 Back and had a monster swim in the 200, dropping more than 3 seconds.
  • Artur Sobol has been putting in the work to improve his sprint and mid distance freestyle events and the work is starting to pay off. His best race of the meet came in the 200 Free where he dropped 2.05 seconds and just missed on breaking the 2:00 barrier. Next time out he will blast through that barrier.
  • Andy Wang has been grinding all season and is finally starting to see the payoffs from all his hard work. He turned in some amazing swims achieving best times in all his races over the weekend. His top performance was in the 200 IM where he dropped more than 2 seconds only a month after a huge drop.

Senior Epic

The Senior Epic Group sent three swimmers to the Spring Fling Meet. They all showed up ready to throw down and swim fast. That is exactly what they did: they all turned in amazing swims with each one of them going best times along with winning at least one race.

  • Blake Nilsen has trained super hard all season and has just been waiting for his races to really pop. This weekend would prove to be that time for him. He posted six amazing swims with best times in each. His best race came in the 200 Back where he dropped 2.19 seconds and finished 1st. His most exciting race came in the 200 Fly where he went under 2:10 for the first time and had a huge surge at the finish, swimming the fastest last 50 and just barely missing out on picking up the win.
  • Lola Reynolds was all business all weekend and it really showed. She was the winner in four of her races and dropped time on her way to all those wins. Her best race came in the 200 IM where she dropped 2.35 seconds and led the race from start to finish with no one able to challenge her.
  • Gianna Tan put up two great swims on Saturday before coming down with an illness that kept her from competing Sunday. She didn’t let that put a damper on her performance as she stamped her name on the meet by winning the 100 Back while achieving a new best time in the event.
