July Jamboree Meet Recap
July Jamboree Meet Recap
What a wild and crazy weekend down in Tacoma as many of our athletes finished their season with some outstanding swims! For many, it was their first chance to swim relays in a long time, or ever! Many many thanks to all the parents and swimmers who volunteered as officials and timers. A special shout out to Kaler Duryee, who ran all the staging for the 10&Under sessions! The host team could not have run the meet without Wave’s outstanding sportsmanship!

Senior 1
The Senior 1 Group sent seven swimmers to the UPAC July Jamboree. All the swimmers who went stepped up and crushed their best times. It was so awesome to see these swimmers really breakthrough in some of their races. The group has been training very hard this season and these swimmers proved that with hard work comes fast swimming. Excited to see what the rest of the group can do at their upcoming meets. Highlights include:
- Carr Chellis had a great meet. He was right on his best times in all his races; usually he excels in the sprint events, but this meet saw some success in the 200s as well. His best swim was his 100 Fly where he closed in on breaking 1:00 for the first time.
- Alex Claux performed very well in the face of adversity at this meet. Things did not go well for him, but he didn’t let that stop him from stepping up and putting his all into every race. He was right on his best times in the 100 Free, 100 Fly and 50 Free.
- Kyle Li really buckled down this summer and trained incredibly hard. His hard work paid off in a big way as he dropped time in all but race. He had an awesome 200 Back where he dropped 1.42 seconds.
- Sonny Nguyen was only able to swim one day of the meet, but he made it count. He had some great races and was right on his best time in all his events. He has been working hard and is looking forward to continuing to crush it next season.
- Aadhav Saravanan had the meet of a lifetime to end his season. He ended up winning three races over the weekend. He started the meet off with a huge 10-second drop in his 500. Not satisfied with one monster drop he turned in a huge 12-second drop in the 200 Free.
- Shaur Shrivastava decided he was going to finish the season strong and finish strong he did. He was right at or better than his best time in all his races. He turned in a strong 100 Back to win the race. He then finished it off by dropping time in both his 200 IM and 50 Free.
- Andy Wang is finally starting to feel better from an illness plagued season. All his hard work really showed as he had a huge 1-second drop in the 100 Free then followed that up with another big 1-second drop in his 200 IM. He is excited to keep working hard and swimming fast heading into the new season.
Age Group Select
Age Group was well represented by the two swimmers who attended the meet. Both swam only one day.
- Lainey Meyer had two best times out of her three events. Her best swim was her first-ever 200 Breast where she swam so well, she had a Top 6 finish!
- Sanvi Shrivastava had three dominating swims, all best times, and finished 1st twice and 2nd in her third event!

White Group
We knitted tightly as a team at this meet: leaning on each other for relays, for cheering, and even for carpools through long traffic backups to Tacoma! Kudos to the 33 White Groupers who trekked to Tacoma for the July Jamboree! They swam 15,000 yards in 179 events and they did it 935s faster than their previous best times!
Extra kudos to our two 200 IM-ers—Jonathan Lui and Elizabeth Luo—who landed it legally in spite of 50+ possible DQs!
MOTIVATIONAL GRADS: first-ever B times at this meet!
- Henry Cheng (50 BR)
- Prisha Ahuja (100 BR)
Legal Losses EVERYWHERE: 6 of 6 events finished legal and faster!
- Bani Bhuyan
- Della Govsheev
- Anika Lichtenberg
CLOSEST CALLS:
- Max Malinovskyi made a Champs cut in his 50 Back leading off the Medley Relay, landing a second under the cut…but three days after the qualifying window.
- Fiona Herman also earned a Champs cut in her first ever 100 Fly, landing 4 seconds under, but also three days past the qualifying window. Big sigh…
- Yan Wang landed 0.06 away from her first B time in her 50 Breast, then 0.24 away in her 100 Breast. She has an impressive glide speed and follow-through in practice, but it’s hard to believe in glides when adrenaline is screaming ‘don’t just lie there, DO something!’
LOSS LEADERS: total time dropped at the meet
- Lost 40 seconds+: Bani Bhuyan (-41), Elizabeth Luo (-43), Della Govsheev (-44), Mudit Singh (-46)
- Lost 50 seconds+: Jamie Jiang (-58)
- Lost 60 seconds+: Prisha Ahuja (-62), Jonathan Liu (-69), Henry Cheng (-73)
- Losingest Winner: Anu Bathe (-91) most of it off his 200 Free (-57s)! He also dropped -22 in his 100 Free and -7.5 in his 50 Free!
BREAKTHROUGH:
- Prisha Ahuja didn’t really believe in breaststroke glides until Day 2 of the meet. Day 1 she did her 50 Breast in 57.39. Day 2 she swam it the first 50 2 seconds faster in her 100 breast, earning her first B time ever! It turns out, her coaches weren’t lying to her about gliding!
Black Group
Black Group Athletes did a good job at this meet of working through warm-up both days and getting to their races. It’s nice to have those things under control for the athletes, coaches and meet staff!
Thank you to all the parents for getting your athletes to the meet and having them there prepared with their E/H/L info, and all the things they need to have a good meet experience.
As usual, we had a number of first-time swims completed, but as coaches we get pretty pumped to see kids successfully complete their first 100 IM. At this meet we had several athletes make that happen: Avni Garg, Elaina Jiang, Colette Kleinpeter, Suhani Munjal, Jackson Neurath, and Lexie Watrous!
One of the more fun races to watch was the 8&U Girls 25 Back: Lingyi (22.84) was first, Berit (23.46) was third, Clara (23.48) was fourth, Joy (23.96) was fifth. It was a tight race!
Special Congratulations to Lingyi Li and Rinat Maksyutov for racing hard and earing their first B times in the 50 Free and 50 Back respectively. They put in the effort at practice, and they should feel proud of making this happen!
There were some standout swims from:
- Sebastian Chan who looked super good in both his 25 Fly and 25 Free
- Ethan Pan really brought some energy to his 50 Back
- Olivia Horng looked super good in her 25 Fly. She’s been working hard on that stroke at practice and that showed in this race.
- Xander Richter Osorio really raced well in his 100 IM; he didn’t have much left at the end but that’s just fine, we loved watching him go out after this race.
- Siena Stahlkopf raced really well in her 25 Breast
- Joy Huang raced strong all weekend and looked super good in her 25 Fly.
- Alyssa Yang kept her stroke long, smooth, efficient as she got under two minutes in the 100 Breast for the first time
- Arseniy Ashikhmin had a couple of strong backstroke races and used his legs well on those.
- Alex Wang looked terrific in pretty much all his races; he was fun to watch race at this meet just about every time he stepped behind the blocks.
Senior Prep
Senior Prep sent seven swimmers to the meet, and all had at least one spectacular swim! The Gashaw twins were especially on top of their races, with 13 out of 14 swims being best times, and earning 8 new motivational times! Here are some highlights:
- Ananiah Gashaw had big drops in most of her swims, but none bigger than her -14.37 seconds lost in the 500 Free, where she broke the 7:00 barrier for the first time!
- Nethaniah Gashaw was the queen of motivational times for the meet, earning a new cut almost every time she dove in. Her highlight was chopping off 26.78 seconds in the 500 Free!
- Penelope Hepkin had two best times, most notably her 100 Free, where she is now down to a 1:04 and a new BB time!
- Rahul Purkayastha practically jumped off the plane from his vacation and into the pool, picking up two big drops of -5.52 in the 100 Breast and -7.56 in the 100 Fly!
- Neil Rawal earned two new best times. His 200 Back was especially notable with a nice -2.44 drop!
- Alex Shibalov had a monster meet with multiple best times and multiple new motivational cuts. His biggest drops were -6.92 in the 200 IM, -14.20 in the 100 Free (where he broke the 1:20 and 1:10 barriers in a single race!), and a ridiculous -26.97 seconds in the 200 Free!
- Radha Shiriam warmed up for PNS Champs by swimming her first-ever 200 Back and then smashed her previous best 200 Free time by more than 5 seconds!
