Issaquah Time Trial Meet Recap

Wave sent several swimmers from the Select Team to this meet on short notice. This meet was a tough one since a lot of the swimmers had just recently aged up into a new set of motivational times, which means harder goal times. Although tough, there were still a lot of great swims, a lot of great time drops, and a lot of times that were within 2 seconds of their goal times. Superb swimming, Wave!

A big shout out to Coach Ryan, who went solo for the first time and did a mighty job of handling swimmers from three different groups! Kudos to Ryder Hsu and Sawyer Hsu, as the brothers each earned their first-ever BB times! In addition, Navya Sainani earned a new B time in every event she swam!

Age Group Select

  • Rihit Ghandi had a very impressive meet, as he dropped a whopping 12.08 seconds in his 100 Back to get a new best time of 1:38.01!
  • Ryder Hsu got his head down in his breaststroke, which allowed him to receive his first BB time in the 50 Breast with a time of 45.98, which was his first time ever swimming the event legally!
  • Sawyer Hsu had fast flips, fast arms, and fast kicks to get his first BB time in the 100 Back with a 1:34.84. It was also the first time he’s ever swam the event!
  • Yuzuki Ishizuka is one of the swimmers who recently aged up and had all0around great swims. Her best race was 100 Breast when she dropped 2.80 seconds for a new best time of 1:45.35!
  • Arvin Kandiah had an amazing meet, dropping time in all his events. Since he got his head down in the 50 Fly and managed to breath every three strokes, he dropped a solid 5.00 seconds, going from 52.22 to a new time of 47.22, which also means he added the 50 Fly to his collection of B times!
  • Eleanor Lopez is just 9 years old and was oh so close to her first BB time in the 50 Back…had she dropped just .02 seconds she would’ve had it in the bag. On the other hand, dropping time in the 50 Free is always challenging and she managed to drop 2.01 seconds for a new best time of 37.71!
  • Kumail Mukadam, like the rest of the AGS swimmers below, was another swimmer who recently turned 11. His first two swims of the meet were just around his best times. He must have been saving his energy for his last swim, the 100 Back, because he managed to drop 6.69 seconds to get a new best time of 1:27.00!
  • Navya Sainani not only droped time in all her events, she also got B times, as a new 11 year old, in all her events, with her best swim being the 100 Back. She paced her race so well there was only a 2.29-second difference between her two splits, and she dropped 6.40 seconds to get a new best time of 1:23.13!
  • Sanvi Shrivastava had all around good swims managing to drop a little bit of time in all her events. Her technique in each stroke was great, which is how she manages to swim well and swim fast!
  • Max Stevenson had a great meet, with his best event being the 50 Fly. He dropped 2.93 seconds by getting his head down and breathing every other stroke. His 50 Free and 100 Back looked very strong as well!
  • Andy Yang had a fantastic meet, dropping lots of time in each of his events. His biggest improvement came in his 100 Fly, cutting off 12.88 seconds to get a new time of 1:30.21. He also managed to score his first 11–12-year-old B-time in the 50 Breast. His 100 Back was a solid swim and fun to watch!
  • Kyra Yuan had very good swims throughout the meet. Although she didn’t drop time, her technique in each stroke was great. She had fast kicks and flips in her 50 Free and 100 Back, while getting her head down and having strong glides in her 100 Breast!

Senior Prep

  • Maddie Cheng, like all the kids from Senior Prep, just recently entered the 13-14 motivational time range. She had dropped time in both her 50 and 100 Free, which were back to back events. She was just 0.41 off a BB time in the 50 Free and while dropping an impressive 2.31 seconds in her 100 Free and is now less than 1.5 seconds away from a BB time. She had fast kicks, fast flips all the while keeping her head down!
  • Ananiah Gashaw was also extremely close to getting her first BB time in the 50 Free…only 0.27 away! With her huge 3.92-second drop in the 100 Fly, she added that event to her collection of B times!
  • Tandisse Rahimi had a very solid meet, her strokes looked great, her strokes looked fast, and her times were right on top of her best times ever!
  • Rahul Purkayastha was also right around his best times, the only Senior Prep athlete to swim all 100s. His best swim was the 100 Free where he dropped 1.07 seconds to only be 0.85 away from his first 13–14-year-old BB time!

Senior 1

  • Rashmi Joshi had a solid meet, being within 1 second from her best times in every event she swam! Every stroke looked fast and had great technique!
  • Neil Rawal is a prime example of what a coach means when we tell the kids to get their head down in breast! His head was still, his face angled down, and the surface of the water was going over his head. His head position in his 100 Breast allowed him to drop 1.82 seconds. He also dropped time in his other two events—the 100 Back and 100 Free—as well by 4.38 and 2.27 seconds respectively. His 100 Free is only 0.89 off the BB time for 13–14-year-olds!
