May Flowers Meet Write Up

Our first long course meet of the year was down at KCAC in Federal Way. Every group in Wave was well represented as we adjusted our bodies to 50-meter lengths instead of 25 yards! We saw an amazing number of excellent early season swims. Highlights included Alex Wang becoming the first swimmer ever in Black Group to earn a BB Cap and Ellen Feng earning her first AAAA cap in her final meet as a 10&Under. Adrian Juco qualified for Sectionals. Cora Ledrick, Dylan Vu, Hailey Crawford, Ethan Na, Nik Brusilovski, Claire Gao, and Daniel Xia all qualified for Zones. Congrats to everyone for an excellent meet!

Purple Group

Senior 1

All 28 swimmers from Senior 1 made the trek down to Federal Way to compete at the May Flowers Meet. The group put on a spectacular display of racing. We saw tons of new best times, a bunch of first-time long course swims, and new qualifiers for high level meets. It was so much fun to watch everyone put everything they had into all their swims. This group trained very hard with the intent of crushing it at the meet and that is exactly what they did. It was awesome to see the swimmers rewarded for their work. I am looking forward to continuing the hard work and crushing times.

  • Oleg Arlouski was a little down after the 400 Free on Friday to start the meet didn’t go as well as we had hoped. He did an incredible job rallying and proceeded to go best times in all his remaining events. His most exciting swim came in the 200 Fly where he swam a super strong race and held his form all the way to a 13-second drop.
  • Tanay Boda competed in a long course meet for the first time in a while. He did an amazing job updating his times and seeing absolutely massive drops in all of his events. His 200 Free to finish off the meet was a fabulous swim, he was very happy with his splits and the effort he put into the race, a 51-second drop that capped off the positive vibes.
  • Daniel Cho was excited to race and update his times from a year ago. He proceeded to blow his old times out of the water. He had a monster swim in the 200 Breast dropping 26 seconds, which put him just off the Summer Sectionals cut. He is looking forward to training hard and going even faster at the next meet.

White Group

The White Group sent a crew of 14 to the May Flowers meet, and it was an eye opener: a first qualifying meet for some, a first long course meet for many, and a first KCAC meet for all! But they didn’t know how to freeze with stage fright, so they hit the water swimming and never looked back.

EPIC EVENT CLUB: These swimmers get ‘chutzpah’ points for tackling longer events, without nerving out, falling apart, or ‘accidentally’ sleeping through it. In a long course pool, long events can feel infinite.

  • 200 Free: Anu Bathe, Ilia Maksimchuk and Anika Lichtenburg. Anika landed it with a B time, the only one in White group (currently)!
  • 200 IM: earned the first-ever 200 IM B time for White Group! Shoutout to his one-man support crew, Mudit Singh who shouted for all he was worth when Jonathan needed it most.

MOTIVATIONAL GRAD: Andrew Zhu earned his first-ever BB time, in his 50 Breast by a margin of 0.13s! Then he did it again in his 100 Breast, with a second to spare.

MIND-OVER-MEETer: Melissa Nguyen won the first heat of the first event of the day, 50 Back, and well within a B time! She was so fast, that she thought it should take longer, so she flip-turned the finish and went straight into a second 50 Back victory lap (also a B time!). She also scored a second 1st BB time in breast in back-to-back meets!

ONES TO WATCH: this meet had a lot of close calls!

  • Anu Bathe landed his 50 Back just 0.6 shy of a first BB time.
  • Jonathan Liu, also landed his 50 Free the same 0.6 shy of a BB.
  • Alyssa Yang arrived just 0.4s from a 1st BB in her 50 BR! Then in a practice time trial the next day, she BB’d her 100 Breast…if only those were official times!

High School

The entire high school group swam phenomenal. We had a few DQs; however, the events that were DQs were B times! That’s still a win in my book. We have a few things to work on and we will get them right the next time! Great Job!!

  • Ori Ami Ad: -15.93 in 100 Free for a BB time, -24.61 in 200 IM for a B time, -11.65 in 50 Back, -10.75 in 50 Breast, -6.34 in 50 Free for a BB time.
  • Tanvi Bathe: Swam the 100 Back, 100 Free, and 200 Back for the first time long course and two of those were B times! -3.09 in 50 Back, -3.13 in 50 Breast, -1.90 in 50 Free for a BB time!
  • Zander Brumfield: Swam all his events for the first time in long course. Out of his 6 events, he earned three BB times in his 100 Free, 200 IM, and 50 Free. He also received one B time in his 100 Fly.
  • Ian Chow: Swam all his events for the first time in long course. Out of his six events, he made two B times in his 50 Free and 200 Breast.
  • Shayan Gavandi: -5.07 in 50 Breast, -3.56 in 50 Free.
  • Dario Giuliani: Swam all his events for the first time in long course. Out of his six events he made three B times in his 100 breast, 100 Free, and 50 Free.
  • Surabhi Koundinya: -1.12 in 50 Back,-7.24 in 50 Fly.
  • Chloe Lewis: -22.97 in 100 Back, -2.07 in 50 Free receiving a B time.
  • Aayona Pattanaik: -3.39 in 50 Fly.
  • Kamilla Shapiro: What a meet! -13.68 in 100 Back, -2.86 in 100 Breast, -10.00 in 50 Breast, -1.90 in 50 Fly, and -8.60 in 50 Free receiving a B time.
