Senior Seattle Open recap

Senior Seattle Open

Wave sent a large contingent of swimming warriors to compete at the Senior Seattle Open July 6-8. It was a tale of cold mornings and hot afternoons. Despite the fluctuating temperatures, everyone stepped up and raced incredibly well. The swimmers all did an awesome job really putting everything they had into their races and executing the race strategies we have been talking about.

A big shout out to Jaiden Sreenivasan for breaking the 15-16 boys team record for the 200 Breast, as well as qualifying for Futures! It was a super fun weekend watching all the swimmers crush it and the coaches are very excited to see how everyone finishes their season!

High School

  • Ori Ami Ad: -19.92 in 200 free for a B time. Swam 400 free long course for the first time for a BB time. -26.86 in 50 fly. -0.04 in 50 free for a BB time. Swam in two A relays swimming the 100 free, with amazing times. He got right out of the 400 free and went right into the relay and swam close to his best time!
  • Tor Nelson: Swam his first long course meet! He did great for a three-day meet. Swam the 100 back, 100 free, 200 free, 200 IM, 50 back, 50 fly, and 50 free
  • Ron Saveliev: Also, had his first long course meet! He swam great and swam 100 free, 200 free, 200 IM, 50 back, 50 breast, 50 fly, and 50 free
  • Feynman Chen: Swam his first long course meet! He only swam one day but put on a great show!

Senior 1

  • Daniel Cho used this meet as a tune up for the upcoming Tualatin Hills (THSC) meet. He tried a new strategy out in his 50 Free that showed potential but still needs some fine tuning. He is feeling good about how he will swim at his taper meets.
  • Aarohi Gandhi had an awesome meet, achieving five new best times. She had a super strong 100 Fly, staying tough all the way to the finish while dropping 6 seconds. Her biggest drop was in the 400 Free where she absolutely obliterated her old time by dropping 30 seconds.
  • Peter Hansen has been training very hard and has been looking very good in his races. He was right at or better than his best in all his swims. He had a very clean 50 Free where he did a wonderful job keeping his stroke long and taking quick breaths.
  • Adrian Juco used the meet as a tune up for the THSC meet. He felt strong his both his races and was right at his best time in the 50 Free and 100 Breast. He is excited to swim fast after getting some good rest.
  • Aditi Kandiah was on a roll all weekend as she turned in several best times. She has been working super hard and it was so awesome to see it paying off. She had an awesome 100 Free dropping 2 seconds and getting a BB time in the event. She absolutely destroyed her previous best in the 200 IM lowering her personal best by 45 seconds.
  • Cora Ledrick only swam in one race as she is also getting ready for THSC. She was right on her best time and looked strong in the water. She is excited to get in some serious racing as the season comes to an end.
  • Kyle Li had a great meet with several drops and several swims right at his best times. He has been working to expand some of his races beyond freestyle and took on the 100 Fly, which resulted in a monster 24-second drop in the event. He swam a super clean and evenly split 800 Free that was almost exactly at his best time.
  • Daniel Luckowski has been working hard in and out of the pool to improve his raw sprint speed. His work is starting to show as he looked great in both his 50 and 100 Free. He dropped a full second in the 100 and half a second in the 50. He is looking forward to continuing to improve in those events.
  • Anton Mazepa had a great meet where he achieved best times in all but one of his events. He had a super strong 100 Back to lead off the medley relay and put his team in great position. He showed great toughness in the 400 Free pushing himself all the way to the finish dropping 3 seconds in the process.
  • Sonny Nguyen was absolutely on fire the entire meet getting new best times in every single race. He had a super fun 100 Free to finish the medley relay shutting the door on the swimmer next to him and winning the heat for Wave. He also had an incredible individual 100 Free dropping 10 seconds and getting very close to breaking 1:00 in the event.
  • Neha Phatak had some fabulous swims and took on some very challenging events for the first time. She had a great swim in the 50 Free where she dropped 1 second. She took on the 1500 Free for the first time ever and did an excellent job, holding her pace strong throughout the race and finished hard, she looks forward to swimming the race again and improving.
  • Ani Purkayastha was only able to swim one day of the meet, but she made the most of her swim. She has been working hard on her pacing and underwater kicking. She did a stellar job evenly pacing her 200 Back, her dolphin kicks were absolutely on point as she went further underwater off each wall than in previous swims.
  • Boris Shakhov has been working to improve his backstroke in practice. That work really showed at the meet as he absolutely crushed his backstroke races looking super smooth and strong along the way. He dropped 4 seconds in the 100 Back and 40 seconds in the 200 Back.
  • Daniel Xia was right on his best times for his tune ups swims as he prepares for THSC. He employed a new strategy in the 100 Breast that worked fairly well and he is excited to see how it works when he is rested.

Senior Epic

The Senior Seattle Open was the last preparation meet before Champs Season for all swimmers in the Epic group. They were mostly focused on practicing their race strategies and on swimming some different events than the ones they will be swimming at their Champs meets. Most of the swimmers attended two days of the meet and some of them raced all three days at Colman. The group did an excellent job with many swimmers in the group achieving personal best times, qualifying for new events at PNS Champs and for the Tualatin Hills Summer Classic in Oregon. Gladly, we were able to add all the new events to their upcoming meets giving them a chance to swim that same event again at their Champs Meets. I am excited to see what else they can do at the end of the season! Here are some highlights:

  • Anouk Balog swam her first 800 Free and earned an A time
  • Rik Brusilovski picked up four best times including his first 200m Breast
  • Caroline Bryant had a huge 6-second drop in her 100 Breast
  • Henry Geitz swam his first-ever 1500 Free and 200m Breast, turning in excellent times in both
  • Jenna Kimbowicz dropped an astonishing 4.5 seconds in her 50 Fly
  • Fredrik Larsen earned three best times, including a huge 4.69 seconds in his 50 Fly
  • Owen Ledrick hadn’t swum the 100m Back in a while and destroyed his old time by more than 44 seconds!
  • Ethan Na picked up four new best times including a 24-second drop in his 100 Back
  • Alexandru Popov continued the roll in the 100 Back with an 18-second drop
  • Aadhav Saravanan swam his first-ever 200m Fly and sliced 26 seconds off his 200 Free
  • Jaiden Sreenivasan—besides his new team record—also improved his 100 Free by 4.5 seconds
  • Andy Wang dropped in three events, including a 17-second drop in his 100 Breast and his first-ever 200m Fly
