Tualatin Hills Summer Classic Meet Recap

Our Senior Team sent a large contingent down to Gresham, Oregon in mid-July to race at the beautiful Mt. Hood Community College Pool. This was a very fast meet with tough qualifying times! Two Olympic trials cuts were achieved, and our swimmers absolutely rose to the challenge of swimming against such stiff competition!

A huge shout out to Daniel Xia, who earned two team records, his first AAAA time, and a Summer Sectionals cut!

Senior 1

Senior 1 had some lights out swims from all six swimmers who qualified for and swam at the THSC meet. It was a weekend where the swimmers built upon one another's success, which kept generating more and more success for everyone. It was so much fun to see everyone so excited about their races and to see the hard work they put in really pay off. Can’t wait to see what this group can do moving forward!

  • Oleg Arlouski snuck his way into the meet to swim only butterfly for his individual events. He rose to the challenge and totally crushed it. He started off by dropping in both the 50 and 100 Fly. The final day of the meet would bring the 200 Fly where he dropped 1 second in prelims to get himself a lane in finals. He came back for finals with his game face on and produced another 1-second drop to finish second in his heat.
  • Daniel Cho made huge waves at his first-ever big swim meet. He tore it up, blasting a best time in the 100 Breast and qualifying for finals. He then repeated the same time in finals to finish third in his heat. He had a bit of a rough prelims swim in the 50 Breast, but luckily ended up in a swim off for first alternate. He crushed his opponent in the swim off then was able to sneak into the C final and finished 2nd going exactly the same time he did in the swim off. Special note this is the first time out of five tries that on of Coach Kyle’s swimmers has won a swim off! WTG Daniel!
  • Iris Huang came into the meet fresh off a trip. She made the most out of her training leading up to the meet and produced some very good results. She was right at her best time in the 50 Fly and was 0.1 from her best in the 50 Free. Iris stepped up big time and was a valuable member of her relays, swimming the fly leg in both the 200 and 400 Medley Relays.
  • Adrian Juco started the meet off with a bang, dropping time in his first event, the 200 Breast. He never looked back from there as he was right at his best time in the 100 Breast and had a solid 2-second drop in the 200 IM. He saved his best for last though: on the final day of the meet he dropped almost a full second in his 50 Breast and earned himself a trip to finals.
  • Cora Ledrick was on fire the whole weekend turning in big swim after big swim. She started out with a solid drop in her 200 Free then followed up by going under 30 for the first time in her 50m Free. She also saved her best for last: in front of the other distance squad members, she swam a stunning 1500 Free, getting stronger and stronger as the race progressed and dropped 30 seconds in the process.
  • Daniel Xia is just starting to find out how big of a swimmer he can be. He started off with a huge drop in the 200 Breast to earn his Summer Sectionals cut and securing a spot in finals. In finals he would turn up even more and break the team record, achieve his first AAAA time, and getting very close to the futures cut. He would not let that be the only legacy he left at the meet as he followed it up with another team record in the 100 Breast. He proved he can swim races other than breast as he smashed his 50 and 100 Free times as well and was a valuable member of the relays having the second fastest 50 split on the whole team in the 200 Free Relay.

Senior Epic

Senior Epic had a fantastic week at the THSC Summer Classic. I am very proud of this group and how well they swam! They worked really hard during the season to get ready for this meet. We had tons of best times, amazing swims, many athletes coming back for finals, three new Sectionals qualifiers, and one new Zones qualifier. Enjoy some highlights from our group below:

  • Jenna Kimborowicz was extremely happy with her well-deserved Spring Sectionals cut in the 1500 Free. Jenna had a fantastic race and dropped almost 7 seconds. This is the first time Jenna qualified for Sectionals after being oh-so-close to the cut many times! She is an example of resilience and persistence for our group! She also got a "ticket prize" winning the 50 Back at finals and dropping 0.75 from her previous time.
  • Hailey Crawford went 5-of-5 best times with an outstanding swim in the 100 Breast where she dropped almost 2 seconds, qualified for finals and was so close to the Spring Sectionals cut (only 0.20 off the cut)! She also broke the :30 barrier in the 50m Free for the first time. Hailey earned an AA Time in both events.
  • Kyler Brumfield dropped time in four events including her specialties, the 800 and 400 Free. She qualified for finals in the 100 Back where she swam determined to win her heat and the ticket prize they were offering for heat winners. She not only won the heat but also dropped 2.50 seconds from her old time.
  • Anouk Balog was looking great and demonstrated great endurance going a best time in both 800 and 1500 Free. She also swam right at her times in her other three events.
  • Caroline Bryant swam three individual events and brought home two new best times. She crushed her time in the 50 Free (-0.56) breaking the :29 barrier for the first time during prelims and again at finals! She also dropped time in the 100 Free (-0.67).
  • Rina Yuan swam three individual events and went a best time in the 100 and 200 Free. Rina has been improving in the 200 events and was very happy with her 200 Free where she dropped 3.68 seconds and earned an A time.
  • Andrea Wu went to college last year but came back to swim for Wave this summer. Andrea had a busy week and qualified to swim five finals. Andrea was very consistent in all races and managed to drop 0.58 in the 50 Fly, breaking the :30 second for the first time (in an official race).
  • Alexander Werth had an excellent meet and went 6-of-6 best times! His outstanding swim was the 100 Breast where he dropped time in prelims and tied with another swimmer. He came back for a swim off and dropped time again to get his first Summer Sectionals cut. He had a huge 3.4-second drop after his two swims. His other strong swim was the 200 Free, where he executed an excellent race strategy and dropped almost 5 seconds.
  • Noah Sattari went four best times and qualified for two finals: 100 and 200 Fly. He had a solid 1.69-second drop in the 100 Fly and—after swimming a personal best in the 200 Fly during prelims—he dropped time again at finals with a total of 2.66 seconds dropped at the end of the day.
  • Nik Brusilovski went 6-of-6 personal best times and started his meet qualifying for his first Spring Sectionals in the 800 Free. There is no better way to start a meet! Nik also had a monster drop in the 1500 Free (-29.33) on the last day. He earned an AA Time in both distance events.
  • Henry Geitz earned five best times and got his first Zones cut and an AA Time in the 1500 Free, dropping 48 seconds from a time he did one week before at the Senior Seattle Open. He also demonstrated his versatility by swimming a great 100 Free where he broke the 1:00 for the first time (59.20).
  • Rik Brusilovski swam two individual events and went a lifetime best in both. His outstanding swim was a strong 400 Free where he dropped 5 seconds, got another Zones cut and a AA Time!
  • Ethan Na had a strong 100 Free and shaved off another 0.30 tenths of a second of the time he got just a week before during the Seattle Open. He also swam right at his times in the other four events he raced.
  • Owen Ledrick dropped time in three events: 200 Breast, 200 Free, and 400 Free. Owen had a hard time in the 800 Free when his cap fell off his head around the 300 meters. He didn’t give up and continued to swim hard although his hair was all over his face every time he took a breath. This is a great example and inspiration for all swimmers to continue their race even when things don’t go as planned. Thanks, Owen!
  • Raymond Chen swam four individual events and three of them were Butterfly. Ray demonstrated a consistent stroke and dropped time in all three races. Ray qualified for finals in the 200 Fly and was very excited for the opportunity to swim one more time in the evening.
  • Andy Wang raced two individual events, 50 and 100 Fly, and brought home a lifetime best in both! He had a strong 100 and dropped a solid 1.40 seconds to earn an A Time. He also had a shiny 0.05-second drop in the 50 Fly. Like I always say: a time drop is a time drop is a time drop!
  • Aadhav Saravanan was happy to join the group towards the end of the week and swam two of the hardest events in the sport: 1500 Free and 400 IM. He had solid races and went right at his times in both events.

Congrats for the excellent season! There is much more to come!
