Select Team Outraces Competition in IST Fall Open!
IST Fall Open Meet Recap
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!
The Select Team blasted through their second meet of the season at Snohomish Pool. Even though it was a mid-season meet and very competitive with six other teams, Wave more their held our own as we scored big, especially with new Champs and AGI cuts. Way to go, Select!
Age Group 1
Age Group 1 took some big steps forward during the second meet of the year. First, the kids did a great job in keeping their swims legal with a drastic drop in DQ slips this meet. Great work on making sure we are focused on doing things correctly! The kids also took a big step forward with a lot of time drops throughout the weekend. Every single kid in the group either dropped time in at least one event or completed an event for the very first time. That is AWESOME!!! Great job to all the swimmers. Lastly, we had a lot of kids complete some new events for the first time, which is always a bit scary. That is highlighted with Lingyi Li and Berit Dunn completing their very first 500 Free. Congrats to both and congrats to the whole group on an awesome weekend of swimming.

- Beatrix Pressman had an awesome weekend with three best times and two first-time swims. She completed her first 100 Fly and 100 Back in the meet and dropped 10 seconds in her 100 IM. Nice work Beatrix!
Great work to all the Age Group 1 Swimmers!
Age Group 2
For this meet, AG2 focused on longer races, with a lot of swimmers competing in their first-ever 500 or 400 IM plus some first-time 200 Back and 200 Breast races, and the athletes swam superbly! We picked up a lot of new AGI cuts and several new PNS Champs cuts while executing strategy extremely well. We saw a lot of outstanding finishes with multiple swimmers running down and beating the competition. All that hard work really paid off!
Two swimmers deserve special recognition: Rhea Dawani and Anu Bathe. Their 500 Free heat was cut due to time constraints on Saturday night, but they elected to swim it as the first race on Sunday morning along with their other three events. Rhea then swam her 200 Free only six heats later! Way to be tough, Rhea and Anu! A huge shout out to all their teammates who packed the deck to cheer them on!
- Alex Arlouski has been bringing his A game to practice every time and it showed here as he earned four best times to go with two first-time swims: 200 Back and 400 IM. In the latter, he picked up his Champs cut by less than 1 second! He also dropped his 200 Free time by almost 36 seconds!
- Anu Bathe started us off right on Sunday morning with one of our biggest time drops: -67 seconds in his 500 Free! He also swam his first-ever 200 Back and 200 Breast and dropped another 14 seconds in his 200 IM!
- Ahana Bhattacharya went 5-for-5 and swam her first 400 IM where she just missed her Champs cut. She also picked up two new BB times and scored 4th place in her 50 Back!
- Lucy Broyles had three big time drops and swam three long events for the first time. One of those—the 200 Breast—was also an AGI qualifying time!
- Deniz Cankaya was our high point winner with five 1st places, a new AA time and two new A times in his final 10&U meet. His AA came in the 200 Free where he dropped more than 21 seconds!
- Henry Cheng had a tough DQ in his 400 IM but otherwise dropped boatloads of time and garnered three new B times. While he used to be merely a breaststroker, all his hard work in practice paid off big time with a 10+-second drop in his 100 Back and 27 seconds in his 200 IM!
- Rhea Dawani scored three new best times and swam three new events: 200 Free, 200 IM, and 500 Free. Her 50 Fly was especially good as she dropped almost 6 seconds to pick up another BB time!
- Lucas Deng has really been putting in outstanding efforts into workout and he showed how hard work pays off with five new best times including a 4th place in his 50 Fly (a race he couldn’t swim legally just a few months ago) and a 27-second drop in his 500 Free!
- Ellen Feng wasn’t sure about the 400 IM for the first time, but she easily qualified for Champs to go along with five new best times. A couple of those swims were heartbreaks: she missed her first 11-12 A time by 0.01 in the 50 Free and missed getting her first 29 in the 50 Fly by 0.09! She’ll get those no problem at Champs!
- Rihit Gandhi had the swim of the meet for our group in his 200 Free. Late to the blocks and unable to wear his cap, he rode his adrenaline surge to a 10-second drop, sprinting the entire race and qualifying for AGI by mere tenths! That was no accident, however, because he has worked his tail off in practice!
- Abby Gray had a big drop in her 200 IM and swam her first-ever 500 Free. Her best race came in the 100 Free with an excellent back half to pick up 6th place.
- Olivia Henaire has discovered a love of distance swimming and was our only athlete in both the 500 Free and the 400 IM. She qualified for Champs in the latter—her first time ever doing the event—and just missed Champs in the former despite dropping 14 seconds!
- Fiona Herman churned out the best meet of her young life with two new AA times (50 & 100 Fly and 1st place in both) and a new A time in the 200 IM by way of an 18-second drop. She also picked up 3rd place in her first-ever 500 Free!
- Jayden Hor provided one of our biggest drops of the meet: -72 seconds in his 200 Free! He also swam his first-ever 200 Back, 200 Breast, and 200 IM as well as earning an AGI cut in his 50 Breast!
- Elise Kabacki’s smile after her 200 Free—where she earned her first-ever A time—was what makes coaching so rewarding, not to mention the support of all her teammates after that accomplishment. That wasn’t all for her: she went 6-for-6 in best times highlighted by a 28-second drop to earn 2nd place in the 500 Free!
- Arvin Kandiah has been pushing himself to new levels in workout and in paid off as he swam four 200s (two of them for the first time) and his first-ever 500. However, his shortest race—the 100 Free—proved to be his biggest time drop!

- Yihan Li picked up three best times—two of them by dropping 11 seconds—and swam three events for the first time, including the 500 Free! Her first-ever 200 Back was also an AGI cut!
- Jonathan Liu scored big, finishing Top 4 in all six races to go with five best times, four new BB times, and a 4th place in his first-ever 500. While he dropped almost 20 seconds in his 200 IM, that was nothing to his 200 Free, where he slashed a jaw-dropping 82 seconds to pick up 3rd place!
- Olivia Liu had a tough first day, including a DQ in her first-ever 400 IM, but roared back on Day 2 as she went 3-for-3, including a new B time due to a nearly 9-second drop in her 200 IM!
- Eleanor Lopez struggled with her breaststroke, DQing 2x for one-hand touches, but otherwise swam superb, highlighted by an A time and a 4th place in her 100 Fly to go with her first-ever 500 Free where she scored 5th and just broke the 7:00 barrier!
- Elizabeth Luo continued to reap the rewards of hard work with a 6-for-6 weekend, including drops of 15 seconds (200 Free), 28 seconds (500 Free), and a whopping 46.5 seconds (200 IM). Few swimmers work as consistently hard as her so these kind of drops are no surprise!
- Ilia Maksimchuk picked up three new best times, highlighted by a nearly 5-second drop in his 200 IM. He also swam the 200 and 500 Free for the first time!
- Max Malinovskyi finished his 10&U career in style with five Top 5 finishes (including his first-ever 500 Free), a 3rd place and BB time in his first-ever 100 Fly, and an A time and 2nd place in his 100 Back!

Senior 1
The Senior 1 Group had 30 swimmers compete at the IST Fall Invitational. It was an amazing meet for the group. We used this as a training meet, so we didn’t really rest at all leading up to the meet and were focused more on execution than times. For a meet that we weren’t expecting to see major time drops, we saw a bunch of major time drops. The group absolutely tore it up crushing swim after swim. I had a blast watching everyone race so hard and seeing their success. This group has been working very hard and the racing they have done so far this season really shows that. I am looking forward to the remainder of the season and some more super-fast swimming.
