November AGI Meet Recap

In the last meet before Fall Championships, Wave sent swimmers from every group in both Sport and Select up to Kamiak High School in Mukilteo for a weekend of fast & furious racing! Wave excelled, speeding our way to a boatload of new PNS Champs cuts and new US Motivational Times, highlighted by Daniel Xia’s AAAA in the 200 Breast where he just missed his Futures cut, Jaiden Sreenivisan’s Futures cut in the 200 IM, and Nik Brusilovski’s Sectionals cut in the 500 Free. A big shout out to all the girls who came off swimming in multiple weekends for their high school team and still swam fast at this meet! It will be exciting to see how FAST we swim at Divisionals and PNS Champs. Way to go, Wave!

Age Group 1

Age Group 1 had a great meet weekend. We had more than 30 kids from the group qualified for the meet and the kids took advantage of a great meet for some fast swimming. Congrats to all the kids on a successful meet and I can’t wait to see how everyone does come Champs time!!!

Standout Swimmers of the Meet:

  • Addy Clarke had an awesome meet dropping time in all six events. Her standout swims came in the 100 Back (dropping 14 seconds) and 100 IM (dropping 9 seconds). She also came extremely close to her first Champs Cut.
  • Rinat Maksyutov crushed the meet with four best times over the weekend and some great finishes in terms of place at the meet. Stand out swims were his 100 Free (dropping 3 seconds) and 100 IM (dropping 2 seconds).
  • Mudit Singh had a crazy fast meet going 5-for-6 in best times. His standout swims were his 200 Free to start the meet off (dropping 7 seconds) and the 100 Back and 50 Fly where he dropped just shy of 2 seconds in each.
  • Anna Ventura had three swims at this meet, and she made each one count dropping in all three. She dropped 8 seconds in the 100 IM and 2.5 seconds in both the 50 Back and 50 Free.
  • Alex Wang had a great weekend going a best time in 5-of-6 swims. He did an awesome with standout swims in the 100 Back (dropping 14 seconds), and the 50 Back (dropping 2 seconds).
  • Natalie Whitbeck swam three events at the meet and went best time in two of those swims. But both of those drops were HUGE. Natalie dropped 11 seconds in her 100 Fly and 10 seconds in her 100 IM.

Senior 1

Our 20 swimmers had an absolutely awesome showing at the meet. We rested for about two days prior so we could see what they could do on short rest. They knocked my expectations out of the park! I was super happy with how well they raced. If this is what they are capable of doing on short rest, I am very excited to see what they can do when they are fully rested. Looking forward to the upcoming championship meet season and seeing the group crush their races.

  • Quinn Anderson had a fantastic day dropping time in all his races. He has been working hard on improving his sprint speed and it really showed in his 100 Free as he dropped about 0.5 and is getting closer and closer to going sub :50 for the first time.
  • Bianca Bensen came off three weekends of racing due to the high school season, stepping up and racing hard at her 4th meet in a row. She had a stellar 200 Back, splitting it near perfectly and dropping time once again. She has dropped time in this race at every meet this season.
  • Logan Downing showed up ready to rock and roll, he rolled all the way to three new best times with some very strong swimming. He’s been working hard on improving his endurance and it showed in his 200 IM as he was able to close much better than his last time out, resulting in a solid 2-second drop.
  • Kevin Flannery turned in several strong swims and was right at his best time in the 50 Breast. He is looking forward to continuing to train hard and swim fast to end the season.
  • Peter Hansen made the most out of all his swims, turning in three new bests. He has been on a tear in the 100 Free this season, dropping at every meet, and kept the streak going as he dropped another second going under :54 for the first time.
  • Penelope Hepkin had small drops due to some big swims, posting a perfect 3/3 on best times. She has really been hitting her stride in the 500 Free and this meet proved no different. She swam a super strong race holding the pace well and speeding up near the end finishing hard.
  • Adrian Juco has been training very hard and was feeling the effects of this at the meet. Nonetheless he made the most out of his swims, executing good race strategies and going right at his best time in all his events.
  • Aditi Kandiah swam a tough double with little time in between two of her races. Even though she only got a little bit of rest, she was right on her best time in the 50 Fly looking strong and smooth throughout she was then just off her best in the 100 Back just 5 minutes later. She is looking forward to more time in between races.
  • Cora Ledrick also comes off three weekends in a row of racing. She stepped up and swam hard all weekend, turning in several good swims. She had a good showing in the 200 Free, pacing the race well and closing strong.
  • Anton Mazepa participated in some of the most exciting races of the weekend. He got involved in a three-way race to the finish in his 500 Free getting his hand to the touchpad first and dropping 2 seconds in the process.
  • Joseph Nguyen was battling illness the week leading up to the meet but was determined to make the most out of it by stepping up and swimming hard. He had an awesome 50 Fly, showing his improving speed dropping a half second.
  • Kieran O’Gorman put up good swims across the board. He swam a very solid 100 Free splitting well, going right at his best time, and putting up his best time this season in the event. He is looking forward to resting and crushing his times at champs.
  • Ani Purkayastha swam well in all her races. She did a wonderful job of swimming the races the way we have been working on swimming them in practice. She was right at her best time in the 200 Back, splitting the race very well and went the second fastest time she has ever gone, going under 2:20 for the second meet in a row.
  • Rahul Purkayashta turned in several good swims himself. He looked especially good during his 500 holding the pace well and closing the race strong. It was only his second time going under 6:00 in the race. He is excited to continue to improve in his longer races.
  • Neil Rawal was very happy with his performances as he went best times in all three races. His sprint breaststroke looked phenomenal as he raced his way to a 1.3-second drop in the 50. He was ecstatic after his 100 Free as he finally crashed through the 1:00 barrier all the way down to a :58!
  • Amaris Rus has excelled in the longer events most of the season. He took this meet to show that he has some great sprint speed as well. He posted strong 2-second drops in both the 100 Fly and 100 Free showing his improved back half in both races.
  • Josh Rus showed up ready to crush his races, and that is exactly what he did. He posted a perfect 3/3 best times. He had a very exciting 200 Free where he got off to a fast start and was able to hold on and close strongly as well. He turned in a massive 11-second drop and broke 2:00 for the first time.
  • Boris Shakhov turned in a solid performance in the 50 Fly going right at his best and showing good technique. He is ready to get back to training hard to be ready for upcoming meets.
  • Gabe Traina had a couple of breakthrough swims at the meet. He had a fantastic 200 Free where he was not afraid to get out fast and then be able to hang on to the end and breaking the 2:00 barrier for the first time.
  • Daniel Xia showed his mix of speed and stamina as he performed very well in the mid distance events. He split a great 200 Breast on his way to a 5-second drop putting him very close to breaking 2:10 and earning his Futures cut.

Senior Epic

We had an excellent weekend with many fast swims and best times achieved at the AGI Meet. It was exciting to see how the hard training we have been doing is paying off. I really enjoyed seeing the swimmers applying the race strategies we have been working on, as well as some specific skills, such as underwater dolphin kicks and breakouts being well executed in their races. A special shout-out to Jaiden for his new Futures cut in the 200 IM and Nik for a new Sectionals cut in the 500 Free! Enjoy some highlights from our group:

  • Oleg Arlouski has been crushing his butterfly sets at practice and it showed at the meet with five personal bests! He had a huge 7-second drop in his 200 Fly and earned a AAA Time in SCY.
  • Anouk Balog had a strong 200 Fly where she was consistent in all her splits and held a solid technique to the end of the race.
  • Nik Brusilovski dominated his events and went 5-of-6 best times! His outstanding swims were the 200 Free (-3.20 seconds) and 500 Free (-6.25 seconds) where he earned a AAA Time in both events and got a Sectionals cut in the 500.
  • Rik Brusilovski went four best times and a new A Cut in the 100 Free. He had a solid 6.49-second drop in the 400 IM where he sprinted his way to the end with a strong freestyle split.
  • Caroline Bryant swam a best time in the 100 Breast (-1.85 seconds) even after a long sequence of prelim/finals meets at the Girls HS Season where she had many best times in her free sprint events.
  • Daniel Cho is getting close to his goal and dropped 0.68 to go 1:00 in the 100 Breast for the first time. He also went a best time in the 100 Fly.
  • Hailey Crawford has been very consistent during the season and was able to swim a personal best in the 200 Breasts and 50 Free. She also went less than a second off her best times in both 100 Breast and 200 Free.
  • Henry Geitz had an excellent meet and brought home five personal bests. In the 400 IM, he dropped 6.26 seconds and in the 100 Fly another 2.45 seconds to earn an A Time!
  • Iris Huang has been working more on her butterfly and had strong swims in both the 100 & 200 Fly. Kudos for her 200 Fly where she did a good job managing her race.
  • Jenna Kimborowicz was happy with her 200 Free where she went out fast and raced hard until the end. She also had solid backstroke events where she worked on fast turns.
  • Owen Ledrick went a personal best in the 50 Breast with a solid half second drop. In the 100 Breast, he went only 0.31 off his best time demonstrating a strong technique in his race.
  • Samantha Merriam had a huge time drop in the 200 Breast (-6.79 seconds) and swam an excellent 200 Free where she held a strong and consistent pace for the entire race.
  • Ethan Na swam only one day at the meet and tied his best time in the 50 Free. He also swam a strong 100 Fly going only half second off his personal best.
  • Noah Sattari’s strongest race was the 100 Fly where he worked on his technique, underwater dolphin kicks, and race strategies. He is looking forward to swimming this event again at Champs.
  • Jaiden Sreenivasan was very happy to get five new personal bests. He has been working a lot on his underwater dolphin kicks and it showed in all three IM events he swam at the meet (100, 200 & 400 IM). He crushed his 200 IM time and got a new Futures cut.
  • Megan Traina was thrilled with her amazing results during HS Season and continued to swim fast at AGI. She went a lifetime best in the 500 Free and was only a few tenths off her best times in both the 100 Back and 100 Free.
  • Rina Yuan had strong swims in the 100 Free and 100 Breast and raced a personal best in the 200 IM where she dropped 0.63.

Congrats for the excellent swims! There is more to come in December Champs!

Black Group

Congratulations to Lexie Watrous on some terrific performances over the AGI weekend! As always, the effort and execution at the meet matter, but it’s all made possible by what she does at practice. Her effort, engagement and learning at practice have helped her to grow tremendously, and what made her performances possible:

  • 100 IM - big drop with a new B time in the race. Coaches love seeing strong performances in IMs
  • 50 Back - another big drop and closing in on her B time in this one
  • 50 Free - smaller drop but a great swim and a new B time here

We hope her success at the meet is a motivator that will help to continue to push her along!

White Group

White Group sent six valiant warriors off to battle in the seas of Kamiak High School pool and they conquered!

  • Emma Lu chose to swim the 100 Fly when she didn’t have to! She didn’t beg out of it or get mysteriously sick the morning of the meet. Nor did she give up when her goggles fell off in an excellent dive (aka. A ‘Michael Phelps’). Then she banged out an excellent swim!
  • Harper McDonnell dropped time every time she dove in, with the possible exception of her 100 IM. In that event, she also dropped 3 seconds, except for the ‘strangest DQ’ of the meet: breaststroke with elbows out of water?! That’s a hard one to achieve, even harder than the new BB time she would have earned, had it been fully legal. She did earn a new BB time in her 100 Free, slicing off 10 seconds! And she made it look easy, smiling through it all!
  • Maks Nikitenko poured on the power in his 200 Free, dropping 36 seconds to earn another B time and 3rd place in the event. In a fit of sound judgment, he chose to swim the 200 Free because ‘I haven’t done it in a while’. He also shattered his 100 Free time, dropping 6 seconds for another BB time and 6th place. His freestyle is a force of nature.
  • David Rondel started off the meet with a slam-dunk in his 100 IM, dropping 10 seconds for another BB time. His 50 Fly was already a BB time, and he powered it 1 second deeper into BB, landing only 0.5 from a Champs qualifying time! He is now in range to qualify in several events, and he gets one last chance at this coming Divisionals, so watch this space!
  • Aditeya Verma was only at one day of the meet, but he shaved off more than most swimmers did on both days. His most impressive drop was 24 seconds off his 100 IM. He has a turbo gear that doesn’t lose it’s ‘smooth’ at high speeds!
  • Alex Yang earned his first TWO times in breaststroke events at his second swim meet ever. He is one of the very few swimmers I’ve seen swim illegally in warmup but fix it by the race, both races: 100 IM and 100 Breast.
