Wave Crew Shines at US Swimming Spring Cup!

Jay Pearson

The 18&Under Spring Cup is a new meet created by USA Swimming this year to offer swimmers one more opportunity to swim a prelims/finals LCM meet in a very competitive Olympic year. This meet was hosted in three different sites and our team went to Mesa, Arizona. Wave had five swimmers qualified for the Spring Cup and was represented by three of them last weekend. Besides some awesome swims, we also had wonderful sunny days and warm temperatures. Enjoy some highlights from our team:

  • Jaiden Sreenivasan had a busy schedule and swam nine times between prelims and finals in two and a half days. He brought home a bronze medal in the 400 IM where he crushed the breaststroke leg and did the crossover turn (back-to-breast turn) in an official meet for the first time. His strongest events were at Finals on the last day of the meet. In the 200 Breast, he felt strong and shaved off another 0.17 off his best time and in the 400 Free he was able to hold a fast pace for the entire race finishing very close to his personal best.
  • Daniel Cho has been recovering from a leg injury and hasn’t been swimming much breaststroke lately. Despite not feeling super confident on the first day of the meet, he showed up ready to do his best and swam the 100 Breast twice (Prelims and Finals). Each time he swam his event, he focused on improving something different for the next race. Then the next day, he swam the 200 Breast, which was his strongest event in Arizona, and the 50 Free where he went right at his time.
  • Ethan Lin was one of the youngest swimmers at the Spring Cup and had a great experience. He was happily surprised to get a new Spring Sectionals cut in the 100 Breaststroke after dropping a full second off his best time during finals. He also swam a strong 100 Fly and a solid 50 Free demonstrating great speed to start off the long course season.

Congrats for the meet! You did an excellent job in Mesa! Wave on 3!!
