Senior 1
The Senior 1 Group had 13 swimmers compete at the meet. We had an absolutely fantastic weekend of racing. Swimmers were crushing their times, qualifying for finals, and getting cuts for new high-level meets. It was such a joy to see all of them perform so well and see them so happy with themselves. This group has put in a ton of hard work this season and it paid off in a huge way. I am so proud of each and every one of them for their efforts. Highlights:
- Gahl Ami ad was fighting off the end of an illness but did not let that stop him from turning in some awesome swims. He went a perfect 3/3 best times. He kicked things off crushing the 200 Fly, dropping 7 seconds in the process. He finished it off with a monster 6-second drop in the 200 IM. He was excited to participate in relays and helped his medley relay score points for the team. Gahl scored 1.5 points for Wave!

- Daniel Chen came into the meet looking for his first AA time to qualify for the SSDL Meet in March. He not only accomplished that goal but secured two more just for insurance. He tore it up in all his races, moving up in both the 100 and 200 Breast and making finals in both events. He really hit his stride in his longer races as he destroyed his old times in the 400 IM and 500 Free, achieving AA times in both events as well as finishing Top 8 in the 500 and Top 16 in the 400. Daniel scored 30.5 points for Wave!
- Bennett Geitz set pretty high goals for himself for this meet and stepped up and achieved them all. He went a perfect 6/6 best times, made finals in all his non-distance events, achieved two new Senior Sectionals qualifying times, and set a team record. In prelims he had a stellar swim in the 200 IM dropping 4 seconds and getting into the A final. He turned around and dropped 2 more seconds in finals, breaking the team record in the process. Bennett scored 98 points for Wave!
- Sophia Gorveatt was on point all weekend finishing turning in best times in all her races as well. She loves to swim butterfly at practice and will choose it any chance she gets; she is also a hard worker and has incredible endurance. Those things combined to produce a wild 200 Fly for her. She started off the race strong and stayed even the rest of the race keeping her tempo high and sprinting into the finish securing 2nd place, a huge 3-second drop, and her first AAAA time. Sophia scored 82.5 points for Wave!
- Kirsten Hau was excited to have a full slate of events to swim at the meet, taking on some of the more challenging races in the process. She looked strong all weekend going right at her best times in all her races. She had a very strong swim in the 100 Fly, looking smooth all the way through the race and finishing well. Kirsten scored 10.5 points for Wave!
- Lauren Hizzey fancies herself more of a mid to long distance swimmer and excelled in the longer races. She got off to a great start putting up a solid swim in the 200 Back going under 2:20 for the first time and qualifying for finals. She finished up the meet with a stellar performance in the 1650 Free. She was completely dialed in, splitting every 50 evenly and doing an excellent job speeding up at the end of the race turning in a monster 1.5-minute drop. Lauren scored 14 points for Wave!
- Amelia Pletosu put her game face on when she woke up Friday morning and didn’t take it off until she left the pool Sunday evening. She has trained incredibly well all season and it really showed across the multitude of different events she took on. She posted solid swims in everything as a lead up to her 1650 Free. She found the goal pace early on, then was like a metronome splitting each 50 the same. For her incredible efforts, she was rewarded with a 3rd place finish and her first Senior Sectionals cut. Amelia scored 87 points for Wave!
- Vien Pogue likes to swim free and breast and likes to swim them fast for short distances. As it turned out, she would do just that over the weekend but not before starting it all with a great kick off swim in the 100 Back, going her second fastest time ever. She rode the confidence from that swim through the rest of the meet, crushing her main events in the process. She was all smiles after showing off her speed in the 100 Breast and 50 Free, earning herself a trip to Indiana in March with her first AA times. Vien scored 18.5 points for Wave!
- Molly Traina battled injuries for the better part of last year. This year she has been feeling better. She took this meet as an opportunity to cement that she was back to form from those injuries. She made finals in all her events and raced amazingly all weekend long. She showed off her strength and speed producing a huge swim in the 100 Free going, under :55 for the first time. She stepped up huge on the final day of the meet, destroying her old time in the 200 Back, going under 2:10 for the first time and finishing 2nd. Molly scored 71 points for Wave!
- Ella Tulanon was another swimmer who joined the All Best Times Club. She has been working hard on all her freestyle events. At the meet, she proved she could do it all from sprinting all the way up to the 1650. She produced best times in the 100, 200, 500, and 1650 Frees. Her 1650 was fantastic as she got into a great rhythm early and was able to maintain it throughout the race, dropping tons of time and going under 20:00 for the first time.
- Edi Vasilescu took on some very challenging events and stood tall throughout the entire gambit. He isn’t afraid to take on any set in practice and whenever I ask him if he feels tough that day, he responds with a yes. He showed off that same toughness in all his races. He kicked things off with the 200 Fly, looking strong and smooth throughout, and destroyed his previous best time by 20 seconds. He finished off just as strong in the 500, getting off to a fast start then holding his pace the back half giving him an 11-second drop. Edi scored 1.5 points for Wave!
- Lasya Viswanadham moved into the group in the fall and in her short time has made some incredible leaps forward. She produced an awesome weekend of racing taking on some very challenging events without any fear and smiling at the end. She went a little off script from her usual meet line up and swam the 200 Fly, which turned out to be a great way to start the meet. She was tough throughout the race and dropped 7 seconds, then rode that momentum throughout. She could barely contain her excitement after her 100 Free as she had a major breakthrough by going under 1:00 for the first time, almost skipping 59 entirely. Lasya scored 5 points for Wave!
