Sport Team Tears It Up In Snohomish!
BBST & MMSC Meet Recaps
The Sport Team had their final meet before the March Championship Season up at Snohomish over the past two weekends. White, Purple and High School attended the BBST Seize The Day Invitational while Black attended the MMSC Marlins Madness. We are pumped to see everyone go even faster over the next two weekends whether they are racing in Indiana, Boise, or Anacortes!
Black Group
We had a great meet with several swimmers earning new US Motivational Times! A big thank you to Wave Families for:
- Arriving on time
- Having your E/H/L info written in sharpie on your swimmer before arriving at the pool
- Sitting together- as best you can
- Supporting your swimmers efforts
- Helping them make good food choices
These are all important things for your swimmers!
- Kai Chen had an excellent meet, first and foremost by successfully completing all six races without a disqualification. He completed both the 100 IM and 50 Fly for the first time as well!
- Victoria Chen is pretty new to the team, but she stepped up and completed three first-time races in the 100 Free, 50 Back, and 50 Free. She has been listening and trying hard at practices so we expect to see her pick up some other strokes in the future!
- Angela Pan was able to get four of her six races legal including a first-time swim in the 100 IM! She’s got her breaststroke down and is just a stroke or two away from nailing that race!
- Keyur Deshpande raced strong all weekend and looked really good in his races. We are excited to see him grow and improve in the sport!
- Simaya Gupta has been working to make improvements at practice and we saw those at the meet including a first time 100 IM!
- Saahil Dixit had two swims with big drops/big improvements, two first-time completions in the 50 Back and 50 Breast, and two swims he hasn’t mastered yet but we are confident he’ll get those down.
- Ping Yang was one of our few 9-year-olds at the meet, and he represented us well by completing all six races including a new swim in the 50 Fly, and racing hard to some nice improved times in his other races.
- Eleanor Liu was another one of our swimmers who was able to do all six races legally including four first time swims: 100 IM, 50 Back, 50 Breast, and 50 Fly. Awesome racing Eleanor!
- Rosemary Huang regularly does a terrific job at practice of listening and working, so we were excited to see how well she raced at this meet with six legal races, two new swims and some very big improvements.
- Sindy Liu looked smooth and strong in all her races and was also able to do all her races legally including three new swims: 100 IM, 50 Breast, 50 Fly.
Great job to ALL our Black Group swimmers at this meet. The coaches had fun watching you race!
White Group
Congratulations to all our White Group swimmers who attended the meet this past weekend. The team absolutely crushed their personal races and the relays! We had a ton of new B and BB times that were impressive to tally up. Keep up the good work White Group!!
A Group
- Ishana Goela had an impressive meet. She was one of our newly turned 11-year-old swimmers who swam in the older session. She did fantastic with checking in and out and receiving feedback. She also dropped more than 30 seconds in her 100 Breast!
- Daniel Sarana did amazing at this meet keeping a level head and having strong swims. He had a moment of panic when his goggles broke right before his race, but he quickly found others and still swam fast!
- Claire Zhang had a solid meet with steady drops and a great relay. She dropped more 5 seconds in both her 100s and raced her first-ever 200 Free!
- Tony Chen earned 5/6 new best times races. One of his most impressive races was the 100 IM where he dropped 13 seconds on a notoriously difficult race. Great drive and swims Daniel!
- Gabriel Steijn crushed his competition this past weekend, especially in 50 Fly where he got his first BB time for the 9-10 age group. He works hard and is very competitive at practices, which pays off at the meets.
B Group
- Kaitlyn Spooner had an amazing 50 Back leg in her relay! She received her first B time and was super helpful to start the relay off strong.
- Jocelyn Miller was lightning quick at this meet. She got not one but three new B cuts!! She is always high energy and positive at meets which was seen by her results at BBST.
- Arvaan Deshmukh had a great meet dropping in most of his events and swimming fast in his relay. His most outstanding aspect for this meet was his enthusiasm and excitement for the relays, love to see that energy!
- Aarush Kakkar was another older swimmer who raced in the 11&O session. He did great at keeping up with the older kids during warm up and racing fast! During practice he asks good questions and mostly stays focused, that attention to detail is going to help him get far with swimming!!
Purple Group
Purple had a super impressive showing at BBST. I was blown away by the number of swimmers who returned for finals on Saturday and Sunday! Also, congratulations to our 17 swimmers who attended Friday’s session to complete in the longer distance events, including 4 athletes who did crushed their first 1650 Free!
A Group
- Alizeh Kurji has been recovering from an injury recently but still did amazing this meet. She was one of the swimmers who swam the 1650 and did great on all her other events, especially her 200 Breast where she qualified for finals and dropped even more time!
- Jonah Lynn had one of our most successful meets, dropping in every single event and completing his first 400 IM. He’s been consistent with practices and focusing on perceived effort during races. He did fantastic pushing himself to the max at BBST!
- Thomas Ovendale was our fastest 1650 swimmer at this meet keeping a steady pace and digging deep to complete the race. He also swam Sunday coming back for finals in both his 100 IM and 100 Back!
- Rayona Saraswat was an absolute machine who dropped more than 30 seconds combined in all her events! She is very consistent and a super hard worker during practices, and she was reliable for checking in and out and utilizing coaches’ feedback.
B Group
- Victor Shirshov was another swimmer who dropped in all his events, including a 20-second drop on his 200 Breast and another great swim coming back during finals. His focus has been on quality swims and technique that shined through during this meet.
- Justin King had a ton of quick races with no DQs at this meet! He’s had a history of getting one DQ at most meets but this one he locked in and swam every race legally! Great time drops and swims Justin!
- Toko Shiotsuki came for Sunday’s sessions and had an exciting 200 Free in prelims dropping 2 seconds but came back faster in finals dropping an additional 7 seconds! She also broke the :40 barrier on her 50 Free this weekend. Amazing swims, Toko!!
- Insha Javed Shoaib swam on Saturday getting two first times in her 100 Breast and 200 Back! She also had a great 100 Free, shaving off 6 seconds. She is great at being energetic and speedy in both her races and practices!
High School
High School did soooo good! There are so many time drops and so many amazing swims… and they weren't even tapered! Everyone deserved recognition for something. Everyone deserves a high five and we weren’t even tapered!
- Eliot Amalo has been swimming with us since the beginning of the school year. He was fairly new and had a lot of room for improvement. He has been rapidly improving on everything! He comes to practice, asks questions, and never complains! He is a hard worker and has a ton of potential! One of his highlights was dropping -11.40 in his 200 Free.
- Alex Belkin is extremely aware of his races. We’ve been working on perfecting the art of racing and understanding every piece of his 50s and 100s start to finish. He is very proud of how far he’s come in the few months since moving up from Purple. I see many great races in his future. He had so many highlights, but I was super impressed by his 11.40-second drop in his 100 IM to place 3rd in finals.
- Dima Leonov-Vendrovskiy joined the High School group just a couple months ago has drastically improved. I see many, many great races in his future as he works on fine tuning mechanics and mastering the art of racing. He is a hard worker and never complains. One of his biggest highlights was dropping 3.59 seconds in his 100 Fly for a BB time.
- Jay Song is one of the harder, most focused workers in the group. He had an incredible swim in his 100 Breast. He has been working hard on getting his first-ever A time and finally got it at this meet! When he hit that wall on his finish, he looked up and when he saw his time, he was jumping in the water and cheering! When he got out, he literally skipped all the way to the coaches’ table to check out with the biggest grin from ear to ear! One of the best moments of the whole weekend! Congrats, Jay!
- Lina Wu is someone who, when she wants something, she goes after it and gets it! She has been working so hard on racing but most importantly having fun while doing it. At the end of the meet, she came over to the coaches’ table and said that she had so much fun in those 3 days and never got anxious or overwhelmed. That’s a big feat for her! And because she was able to relax and race, she was able to get amazing time drops topped by dropping 1.60 in her 100 Free for her first A time as a 15-year-old!
