Sport Team Gets Wave Off to Fast Long Course Season!

Our Sport Team traveled down to University Place for the first meet of 2025’s Long Course Season and put up swim after impressive swim, resulting in many new best times. We also saw many swimmers attempt new races or complete races legally for the first time. Each session ended with some very exciting relay swims! Most importantly, we saw tons of team spirit! Way to go, Wave!

Black Group

As always, a big thank you to families who:

  • Arrived on time
  • Had their kids in the team uniform
  • Packed healthy snacks for their swimmers
  • Arrived with their E/H/L info written out in sharpie on their swimmer’s arm

These things are hugely helpful for the swimmers and coaches!

Shout outs to Mo Chen and Martin Li on earning their first B times!

Black Group B

  • Felix Jiang had an excellent meet with first time swims in the 100 IM and 50 Breast, in addition to his first time breaking :50 in a 50! His practice efforts translated into some exciting swims!
  • Callie Meyer swam her first meet with Wave, after starting with the team a few weeks ago. She handled everything really well and did it with a smile on her face. In the pool she had three first-time swims in the 25 Free, 25 Back and 25 Breast, all legal!
  • Lev Sukhin focused on keeping his legs and feet together on his butterfly after we talked about that being the focus for his 25 Fly. His effort there resulted in his first legal butterfly swim!
  • Brian Xie also swam his first meet with Wave, and he did excellent with everything, resulting in three very strong swims in his 25 Free, 25 Back and 25 Breast.
  • Cary Zhou showed tons of improvement at this meet, which was super fun to watch. His strokes looked better across the board, and he finished his first legal breaststroke swim!

Black Group A

  • Rex Ji had a fabulous meet with some nice improvements, and three first-time swims in the 50 Free, 25 Breast and 25 Fly.
  • Krithin Kothinti completed his first 100 IM, so the coaches are very proud of him! He showed some nice improvements in his 25 Back and 25 Breast as well.
  • Gavin Liu always races hard, and he did that again this past weekend. His best races were his backstroke events where he slowed things down a tad, while looking smooth and strong with his strokes.
  • Phoebe Priday had lots of good races at the meet, and we had fun seeing how she’s grown and improved in the sport. The skills she’s worked on at practice are getting better and we can see it in her races. Her 25 Back was very strong at this meet.
  • Amelia Wang showed her speed in her 25 Free and 25 Back events at this meet. We are excited to see her continue to grow and improve in all her races and we’ll keep working at practices to bring out her speed even more!

White Group

I would like to congratulate every swimmer for facing their challenge. This brings me to the White Group list of honor. All athletes at this level who complete a 200 IM legally in competition have earned unquestioned respect!

200 IM List of Honor

  • Kanav Archanya
  • Shreyan Archanya
  • Nuo Chen
  • Arvaan Deshmukh
  • Vivian Gupta
  • Elvis Lu
  • Hanna Nagpal
  • Max Schrepher

Most Improved

  • Congratulations to Vaani Sharma. In the four races she had posted a previous time, she dropped a total of 95.16 seconds with zero DQs!

Most Valuable

  • Congratulations to Max Schrepfer on his new BB time in the 100 Fly! He also dropped 14 seconds in his 100 Free to earn another new B time and had no DQs!

Honorable Mentions

  • Zhile Li – Even though he was disqualified for swimming 2x100 IM instead of doing 1x200 IM in the race, he still swam all the strokes legally!
  • Aaron Yang knew he was risking a disqualification in his 100 Back by trying to do the advanced backstroke rollover flip turn, yet he had the guts to go for it anyway. I’m proud of this disqualification!
  • Atharva Koppal dropped 4.47 seconds in his 100 breast to make a new B time.

Purple Group

Purple Group had an outstanding first meet of the Long Course season. Totaling up almost 600 (597.87) seconds shaved off by all of our 40 swimmers representing our group this meet. Just as important and impressive I saw smart races and tons of experience gained by all of the swimmers who competed at UPAC, great job Purple group!

A Group

  • Thomas Ovendale had three impressive 50 free races at this meet between his individual race and his two relays. Every time he raced, he dropped time from his original resulting in his first BB time and some impressive relay splits!
  • Victoria Arena has been focusing on her butterfly technique. Using the hard work she’s been putting in, she shaved 5 seconds off her 100 Fly while keeping her form together.
  • Eric Zhou has not always been the biggest fan of breaststroke, yet he showed up this weekend ready to go and dropped 12 seconds, adding another B time to his collection.
  • Hannah Zhao has been busy juggling multiple sports. She still is very consistent with practice attendance and her dedication resulted in multiple drops over this meet. Her most impressive was the 200 Breaststroke with smooth form and a 3-second improvement.
  • Jayan Upadhaya was a recent move up to A group. He did fantastic for his first meet in A group focusing on how best to race each race. He excelled in his 100 Breaststroke by locking in his technique and strategy.

B Group

  • Amarissa Chandra was only able to attend one day but she put her all into the day she came! She replaced an old time she had for 200 IM getting under 4:00 for the first time and dropping more than30 seconds to start the meet off strong!
  • Andrew Zhu got under the 3:00 barrier on his 200 Free dropping 10 seconds and swimming a smart race. He does great at checking in and out at meets and taking feedback after races.
  • Prisha Ahuja was our only Wave representative in the 200 Fly for the 12&U session. She not only completed it legally but kept her form mostly together and completed it without recovery kicking. Amazing job Prisha!
  • Patrick Long had one of our most impressive comebacks in his 50 Fly. Prior to the race he fell in early, almost causing a false start. He didn’t let that rattle him and cut 23 seconds off his time.
  • Justin King has been working on swimming legally and properly in all his races. He had an awesome meet with legal turns and races while getting nice time improvements. Keep it up Justin!

High School

We didn’t have a ton of swimmers at this meet, but we had a ton of drops for events! Three weeks into long course season and we did really well!

  • Eliot Amalo came to swim! He was very intentional in every race and had a good strategy locked in his brain before he got behind the blocks. He had an amazing start with swimming the 50 Fly for the first time and then proceeded to drop -15.11 in his 200 IM! His 50 Breast was also a great race to watch as he was really racing the swimmer next to him! Way to get after it, Eliot.
  • Charlie Page has shown a great work ethic and tries extremely hard since moving into the group in April. He started off swimming his 50 Fly with a great time drop and his tenacity helped him drop -7.62 in his 200 Breast!
  • Kyra Yuan is also another new athlete in the group. Since her move up, she has attended as many practices as she can. That dedication helped her get a solid time drop in her 50 Fly, 50 Back, and 200 Breast. Her best race of the weekend was her 200 Back as she dropped -9.62! She really wanted to beat the girl next to her.
  • Liya Wu had some amazing races! She is finally learning how to be aggressive in the water and get after it! She raced hard in her 200 Breast with a solid time drop while her best swim of the weekend was her 200 Back, as she really got out of her comfort zone and raced!
