Senior 1
The Senior 1 group had 20 swimmers compete at the meet, who all performed incredibly well, turning in fast swim after fast swim. It was an absolute blast watching this group put everything they had into their events. It has been a season filled with hard work and to see that pay off in such a big way was a huge accomplishment for the athletes. I am so proud of what this group has done and am excited to see them continue to push themselves and reach higher levels within the sport. Thank you to all the swimmers and parents in the group for such a wonderful season.
- Gahl Ami ad came into the meet on a mission to qualify for Zones and Sectionals. He left the meet having accomplished both goals. He has been working hard on his breaststroke and that all paid off in a huge way in the 200. He had a stellar swim going out in a best time in the 50, a best time in the 100, then coming home strong to get the Zones cut and both spring and summer Sectionals cuts in the event.
- Kamilla Bugaitsova has embraced training for the distance freestyle events and has been absolutely crushing the distance sets during practices. All that hard work paid off as she went best times in the 200, 400, 800, and 1500 Free events. She had an amazing performance in the 400 Free, racing exactly the way she trained to. She got off to a strong start then continued to push herself throughout the middle and closed incredibly well. She earned herself a huge drop, broke 5:00 for the first time, and snagged a spot in the A final. Kamilla scored 26 points for Wave.
- Roman Byelykh took on a brutal schedule of events, swimming all six individual freestyle events. He was on point in all of them, dropping time in each. He saved his wildest performance for the final race of the meet, the 800 Free. He got off to a great start and was able to get on his pace right away then pushed his way through the final 200 coming home incredibly strong the final 50. For his efforts he earned his first Sectionals cut. Roman scored 72 points for Wave.
- Lola Cheng competed mainly in the breaststroke events and did an incredible job of racing. Her stroke was looking strong throughout the weekend. She had an awesome swim in the 200 Breast. She swam a smart first 100 then was able to stay strong, smooth, and fast the back 100 to give her a season-best time.
- Evan Deng was able to perform well across the board in the sprint events and in his longer races. He used his already stellar speed and improved endurance to give himself best times in all the breaststroke events. This work also helped him in the shorter events. In the 50 Breast he was able to keep his tempo up longer while still moving through the water well which gave him a solid half second drop and a 3rd place finish. Evan scored 27 points for Wave.
- Lena Duryee came to the meet as a relay-only swimmer and made the most of her swims and helped the team in a big way. She was incredibly strong in all her swims, which helped each relay team she was on score points. She had a blisteringly fast 50 Free going under :29 for the first time. Lena scored 10.5 points for Wave.
- Caden Gray put in some very hard work this season and was very excited to see it pay off once he finally rested as he turned in big swims in all his races. He moved up to qualify for Finals in some of his races that he was not seeded to qualify in. He has fancied himself a breaststroke specialist lately and that really showed in his 100. He used great tempo and a strong back half to earn himself a spot in finals and a 5-second drop. Caden scored 48.5 points for Wave.
- Nora Herman was another swimmer who took on a tough schedule of events and absolutely crushed it. She kicked off the meet with a monster swim in the 1500 Free. She was able to find her pace early in the race and then dialed it in and was so methodical throughout the race maintaining her speed, she then turned on the jets the final 400 and raced her way to the finish and a huge 12-second drop. Nora scored 22 points for Wave.
- Lauren Hizzey had a blast all weekend as she got to swim only her favorite strokes: backstroke and freestyle. She made the most of the opportunity and turned in best times in all but one race. Her best performance came in the 200 Back. She started out with a steady tempo and controlled kick then slowly built up her tempo and kick until she was able to sprint home the final 50. Looking to the scoreboard she was thrilled to see a 5-second improvement.
- Ethan Lin has been chasing the Futures cut in the 50 Free all season. He has spent his time working on each part of the race from start to finish. He has been showing improvement and slowly getting closer and closer. He would finally have his breakthrough leading off the 200 Free Relay. He executed all the things he’s been working on and parlayed them into his first Futures cut! He then doubled down and went even faster in his individual 50 Free. Ethan scored 21 points for Wave.
- Victor Lyakhovitski looks to be in full racing form after recovering from a leg injury early this year. He was excited to be back to form and raced incredibly well putting everything he had into his events and crushing his previous best times. He had a stellar swim in the 50 Back. He used a strong underwater kick to start the race then a high tempo and fast kick to finish. He gave himself a big 3-second drop and qualified for the A final. Victor scored 2.5 points for Wave.
- Lainey Meyer went a perfect 4/4 on best times at the meet. She showed great versatility in this feat as she did it in two sprint events and two distance events. She stayed strong throughout the meet and on the final day in the 800 Free she delivered her final drop of the meet. She had an incredible race holding well in the beginning then built up to a faster pace to finish the race. It was super fun to watch and she knocked 20 seconds off her previous best.
- Vien Pogue has been working hard on improving all her races across the board. She took on the challenge of swimming four very different races and was able to find success in all. Her favorite thing to do is sprint breaststroke and she did just that in the 50. She got off to a white-hot start then accelerated into the finish well to go under :38 for the first time and qualify for finals. Vien scored 10.5 points for Wave.
- Max Smagley very much likes to swim fast for short distances. He goes about it in a very smart way doing a wonderful job of executing his race strategies and using the tools at his disposal. He exhibited these qualities wonderfully in the 100 Fly. Knowing he needed to be controlled the first 50 so that he would be able to come back well the second 50, he executed the race exactly the way he had planned and gave himself a solid 2-second drop. Max scored 20 points for Wave.
- Gabe Traina was on fire all weekend going best time after best time. He was looking back to full form all weekend long and, in typical fashion, saved his best stuff for the very end. He turned in a phenomenal 800 Free to end the meet. He was super steady during the race, holding his pace incredibly well then ended in a dead sprint to the finish with the swimmer in the lane next to him using his superior speed to get his hand on the wall first. He crushed his previous best time, from just a month ago, by 16 seconds and was just barely off the Sectionals cut. Gabe scored 2.5 points for Wave.
- Kennedy Tremblay was incredibly excited to compete and made the absolute most of her opportunity, turning in best times in 5/5 races. She worked first to improve her butterfly speed and once that was accomplished set out to work on her endurance. Her efforts paid off in spades as she was able to crush the 100 Fly. She used her speed to get out to a great start then showed improved endurance coming home strong to give her a spectacular 3-second drop.
- Ella Tulanon was another member of the perfect club going 4/4. She started off the meet with a huge swim in the 1500 Free and just kept rolling from there. In her 1500 she was able to get to her pace early on then was able to methodically continue at that same speed until picking it up for the final 400 and using everything she had left to come home the final 50. This resulted in a massive 26-second drop.
- Edi Vasilescu came into the meet having just recovered from an illness. He didn’t let that stop him from having a stellar showing and going best times in all his races. On the final day of the meet had a great performance in the 200 Back. He had great tempo throughout and was able to go to his legs the back 100 finishing the race incredibly well, dropping 3 seconds and qualifying for finals. Edi scored 40 points for Wave.
- Lasya Viswanadham had a fantastic meet going right at or faster than her best times in all her races. She has been working hard to expand her race repertoire and decided to train for and take on the 400 Free. It proved to be a good decision as she turned in a fantastic performance in the race taking it out fast then holding on well to finish giving her a solid 7-second drop and pushing her closer to breaking the 5:00 mark for the first time. Lasya scored 4 points for Wave.
- Piper Wiegand proved that she could do it all from sprint to distance as she went best times in all her events, which ranged from 50 to 1500 in distance. She has had great success in the 1500 Free this season and has been chasing the Zones cut in the event. She took care of business on the first day of the meet as she started out fast then settled into a very strong pace and finally sprinting her way to the finish to crush her old time by 23 seconds and getting her Zones cut. Piper scored 75 points for Wave.
