PNS 12&U Long Course Age Group Champs Meet Recap
Wave’s top younger swimmers competed at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way near the end of last month, narrowly missing 3rd place by only 0.5! Both Wave and SMAC had well over 1100 points each. We were lead by Alex Wang, who won the 10&U Boys High Point, as he won four golds and two silvers, picked up two new team records, earned his first individual AAAA time, and lead both relays to high finishes. Shoutouts also go to Deniz Cankaya and Elaina Jiang, who both earned their first individual AAAA times.

Age Group 2
AG2 sent nearly the entire group to Champs and we had many tremendous swims, with about half the group making Finals. We had an especially memorable swim in the 200 Breast B Final where Eva Kalicinski and Berit Dunn took off on the first 50 to pull far ahead and then race neck-and-neck for the rest of the race, easily going 1-2 to win, and both girls making Wave’s Top 16 list. Well done on a fantastic season, all of you in AG2! I will especially miss those of you moving up to Purple or Senior Prep!
- Aman Bhatt went 5/5 best times, all of which were 3+ second improvements, and picked up four new BB cuts. His best race was his 100 Breast where he used a much improved glide and pull-shoot to drop 8 seconds!
- Norah Braun went 5/6 best times, including two Time Trial swims. Her highlight swim was her last swim in Time Trials, the 200 Free, where she really challenged her tempo early and used an improved body position and excellent kick to bring it home on the final 50. She ended up with an 11-second drop and a new B time!
- Katelyn Chen qualified for her first-ever Champs and went 3/4 best times. Her best race and highest finish was in the 50 Breast, which was one of her bonus swims. She took an aggressive approach right off the blocks to knock off 2.5 seconds, earn a BB time, and beat the Champs cut.
- Addy Clarke had a perfect 7/7 meet, including a swim in Finals. She is a great sprinter, but her best two races were her 100 Breast and especially her 200 Back. This season she learned how to pace herself on longer races and the result in her 200 Back was a 10.7-second drop to break 3:00 for the first time in long course and earn a B time. Addy scored 7 points for Wave.
- Rhea Dawani continued her highly successful long course season by picking up two more best times with really strong swims. Her best race came in her 50 Fly where she controlled her breathing to keep her arms fast and her kick snappy. She dropped almost 1 second and earned a BB time. Good luck in Senior Prep, Rhea!
- Lucas Deng really pushed himself this past season and ended up grabbing four best times at the meet, including breaking the 6:00 mark for the first time in the 400 Free. His best race came in the 100 Fly, where he used vastly improved arm technique matched with excellent body position to drop more than 3 seconds and earn himself a new B time. Best wishes in Senior Prep, Lucas!
- Berit Dunn went 8/9 best times, finaling in all three breaststroke races (including winning the B Final in the 100) and earning two more AA times. Her best race was the aforementioned 200 Breast race in Finals. In Prelims, she had knocked off just 0.12 to get in, but came back ready to really race and slashed 4.3 seconds off her time from that morning. Berit scored 35.5 points for Wave.
- Vivian Hu had the tough luck of turning 11 just one week before the meet, but she didn’t let that stop her as she went 8/8 in best times, including a couple of spectacular relay leadoff swims. Her highlight came in Time Trials, where she chose to swim the first 400 IM of her life. Her pacing was spot on for each stroke and she not only beat the Champs qualifying time but earned an 11-12 A time!
- Elaina Jiang came with her game face on and dominated in the pool. She made the A Final in five events and the B Final in her sixth. She also earned AAAA times in two separate strokes, which is a phenomenal feat! Her highlight swim was her 50 Back in Finals. She did not have a great Prelims swim but still squeaked into the A Final. That night she came back with a vengeance, racing a full second faster and moving up three places from the outside lane! Elaina scored 93 points for Wave.
- Haim Jung had a challenging summer due to a broken arm but he didn’t let that stop him from going 5/5 best times and bringing some tremendous time drops. His highlight was in Time Trials where he raced the 100 Free. He went out very fast, built his tempo, and came back as if he’d been struck by lightning to drop 15 seconds, crush the 1:20 mark, and earn a B time.
- Eva Kalicinski had a perfect 8/8 meet and finaled twice. She also earned either an A or AA cut in every single race. Her highlight was her win in the aforementioned 200 Breast B Final. She led from start to finish but had to really race from the heart to hold onto that lead, especially after dropping 10 seconds in Prelims. In Finals, she dropped another 7.5 seconds for a total drop of 17.5 seconds. Eva scored 14 points for Wave.
- Avery Lee had a tough year with illness and injuries, but nothing could hold her back at Champs as she went 4/4 best times. Her best race was her 50 Breast where she matched a highly efficient glide with a perfect tempo to drop 1.3 seconds and earn a new BB time.
- Lingyi LI had a superb meet, going 5/6 best times and three new motivational cuts as well as being a crucial member on four relay teams. Her highlight swim was her 50 Free leading off the 200 Free Relay. While she missed breaking the :30 by the slimmest possible margin (30.00!), she dropped 0.9 seconds and earned a AAA time as just an 11-yr-old! Lingyi scored 24.5 points for Wave.
- Anika Lichtenberg had a tremendous long course season, earning a full slate of events, and going 6/6 best times including her first three A times, including one leading off the 200 Free Relay. - Rinat Maksyutov had an outstanding meet, most notably in his 100 Back. He dropped 3.6 seconds in the morning with a tremendous arm tempo and strong supporting kick to grab a new A time and then was scratched into Finals. Although not quite as fast as in the morning, he held his place and it was still his second-fastest 100 Back ever! Rinat scored 6 points for Wave.
- Maksim Nikitenko came off vacation to swim four races. His lone best time came in the 200 Free, where he kept his breaths quick and his pacing steady to drop 0.6. Best wishes in Senior Prep, Maksim!
- Albert O has been the most improved AG2 swimmer over the course of the entire 2024-25 season, much of that due to a positive mindset. He dropped time in all three breaststroke races, with the highlight coming in the 50 Breast where he stayed strong with his tempo and ran several competitors down on the second half to drop more than 1 second and earn his first long course A time. Good luck in Senior Prep, Albert
- Andrew Ouyang has been upping his game all long course season and he hit the jackpot at Champs, going 4/4 best times and coming close to making finals in the 200 Fly. His best race was his 100 Fly where he shot out like he’d been fired from a cannon and did not relent his tempo for a 15.3-second drop and breaking both the 1:50 and 1:40 marks!
- Benji Ovendale has worked hard at improving all his strokes, as well as his flutter kick. The payoff came up big especially in his 400 Free where he held his tempo beautifully and brought in his flutter kick for the final 50 to drop 19 seconds off his previous best and pick up his highest finish of Champs. Benji scored 1.5 points for Wave.
- Tim Rakovchuk has had a tough year with illness, but his positive attitude helped him go 3/4 best times and almost get a best time in his final race. His standout swim was his 100 Fly where he focused on great body position and utilizing a good breathing pattern to shatter his previous best by 4+ seconds and earning a new B time.
- Siena Stahlkopf has really come on since the end of Short Course. She went 2/4 best times after a phenomenal Seattle Open just a few days earlier. Her standout swim was her 50 Free where she went out like gangbusters and never relented to drop almost 3 seconds and earn a new BB time.
- Clara Stevenson has worked extremely hard in both dryland and swim practice and she came away with a 5/5 meet, including her first-ever 200 Fly in Time Trials. Her best race was a beautifully paced 200 Breast where she dropped almost 7 seconds and secured herself a new BB time.
- Dan Sun might have had a 1/5 meet, but in those four races he only added about 0.2, so he was right on his best time in those swims. His best swim was his 200 Back where he exhibited excellent pacing and really good body position for a 4-second time drop and beating the 3:00 mark for the first time. Dan scored 5.5 points for Wave.
- Max Sun went 5/7 best times and was a key member of several relays. His best swim came in his 50 Free. In Prelims, he dropped just 0.06 but he squeaked into Finals. That evening he blasted off the blocks and ran down several opponents to move up three places, break the :31, and score some big points for Wave. Max scored 17 points for Wave.
- Anna Ventura had a fantastic meet, going 6/6 best times, including three new A times. Her top performance came in her 200 Fly where she showed off her improved endurance and ability to hold her stroke together for the entire race to drop almost 14 seconds off her best time, earn a new BB cut, and just miss making finals. Anna scored 11.5 points for Wave.
- Aditeya Verma has turned into AG2’s most improved swimmer since the start of 2025 and his hard work ethic in practice showed up huge at Champs as he dropped time every time he swam, which included five races in Finals and four relays as well as a AAA time as an 11-yr-old in the 50 Fly. His standout swim was his 200 Fly, where he dropped almost 2 seconds in Prelims then came back to Finals and blew away the competition as he smashed another 14.5 seconds off his time to win the B Final by more than 15 meters! Aditeya scored 65.5 points for Wave.
- Alex Wang was Wave’s highest scorer with four golds and two silvers. He only added time once and that was in his Prelims swim of his 200 Free where he had finished 2nd. He came back hungry in Finals, stayed right with the competition, then made his move with 60 meters to go. The other boys had no chance when he turned on his jets and he easily cruised to victory, swimming more than 4 seconds faster than in the morning. Alex scored 130 points for Wave.
- Maja Wang doesn’t know how to not work hard and that ethic paid off big as she went 3/4 best times and was a key member of our medley relays. Her best race was her leadoff swim in the 400 Medley Relay where she went out fast to set the team up for a great finish and dropped 3+ seconds of her previous best to also earn a new AA time. Maja scored 11 points for Wave.
- Natalie Whitbeck is possibly the hungriest athlete in AG2, as in hungry for speed! She went 5/6 best times including a couple new motivational times. Her best swim came in the 200 Breast where she showed off her work ethic by dropping 9+ seconds to earn a new BB Time.
- Finely Wiegand has really developed her non-freestyle strokes this past season to turn into an excellent all-around swimmer and she dropped time in 5/6 events (she matched one event exactly). She’s really developed her fly, and her best race was her 50 Fly where she shattered her previous best by 3.4 seconds to easily capture another new A time. Finley scored 7 points for Wave.
- Owen Wilson is another swimmer who gives 110% everyday in workout. That led to a 6/7 meet, with his highlight swim coming in his A Final race in the 50 Fly. He just barely got a best time in Prelims to squeak into the A Final, but in the evening he was all smiles as he easily broke the :33 mark, dropping another 0.65 to hold his place in Finals. Owen scored 24.5 points for Wave.
- Alex Yang came into AG2 a couple years ago as a project and he has really blossomed in 2025. He went 4/4 at Champs, highlighted by his 100 Back where he has learned how to be aggressive and go out fast. He kept his head back nearly the entire race and had excellent breakouts at both ends to drop 3.3 seconds and earn his highest place at the meet. Good luck in Senior Prep, Alex!
- Kenshin Yokoyama had a tremendous Champs, scoring in five races and picking up several new motivational cuts including a AAA in his 100 Fly. His best race was his 100 Back in Finals. He’d had a great Prelims swim, dropping 2.5 seconds, to place 13th. Then he came back that night and went out faster, held his tempo, and just missed winning the B Final, moving up three places and dropping another 2.6 seconds for a total drop of 5 seconds in the event. Kenshin scored 73 points for Wave.
Senior Prep
Senior Prep had 12 athletes at Champs (that’s all the 12&U in Sr Prep!) qualified for the meet.
