Big Cuts, Fast Swims Kick Off Wave’s 2025-26 Season!

SSCD Autumn Open Meet Recap

Wave’s Sport Team began the 2025-26 season for the team at Kamiak High School with fantastic performances from every workout group, with loads of brand new swims, best times, and new motivational cuts.

For these recaps, coaches pick five swimmers from each group (A and B) to highlight. It’s sometimes hard to limit it to just five as we are very excited about more than just the ten kids below.

We also try to pick different kids each time, so the coaches look back at recent meets and try to NOT highlight swimmers who got shoutouts in previous recaps.

Big shout outs for some remarkable feats: Daniel Rondel, who earned the rare feat of a BB time for a Black Group swimmer, Kate Ventura, who went 6/6 B times in her first-ever meet, and Ivan Nesterenko, who earned the rare feat of an A time for a Purple Group swimmer!!

While we can only spotlight a few swimmers each meet, we are proud of every athlete’s progress and dedication! Way to go, Wave!

Black Group

This was our first meet of the year and first meet ever for many families and swimmers. There is always a lot to learn and experience at these meets, but the coaches were happy with how well most athletes and families got things figured out. There were lots of questions, but that is to be expected. As we go through the year, meets will become a little more routine and easier to manage for families.

 Group A

  • Aadyant Agrawal had an all-around excellent swim meet. We were very pleased to see him complete his first ever 100 Back. It was also fun to watch the energy he put into his 100 Free as he broke 1:40 for the first time. He also swam well in his 25-yard races, including breaking :20 in the 25 Free for the first time.
  • Kevin Zhang had a very strong meet. He had a really good 100 Free and broke 1:40 for the first time. He earned his first-ever B time (50 Breast). He’s been doing a good job with that stroke at practice, and we’ve seen this coming for him. We were excited to see how well his 25 Fly event looked as well!
  • Brian Xie had a great meet with three first-time swims in the 100 Back, 50 Back, and 50 Breast. He also showed nice improvement in all three of his 25-yard races.
  • Amelia Wang completed her first-ever 50 Breast, which was awesome. She also showed nice improvements in all her other races. We really like seeing her use her underwater kicking because she’s fast at that. As she improves switching from underwater to swimming that’ll become a bigger advantage for her.
  • Daniel Rondel swam excellently over the weekend with several great swims. He’s oh-so-close to breaking :20 in both his 25 Fly and 25 Back. The highlight of the weekend for him was his 50 Back, which he executed really well with lots of good energy. This was his first-ever BB time, and we’re glad to see him earn that!

 Group B

  • Eva Bolotin competed in her first meet and finished four races successfully: 25 Free and Back, 50 Free and Back. She was nervous but that’s pretty normal and seemed to enjoy herself overall. We were excited to have her there at the meet!
  • Aadhya Chavva also was swimming in her first meet and finished five races successfully: 25 Free, Fly and Back, 50 Free and Back. She came in with a great attitude and had fun interacting with her teammates and coaches.
  • Nitisha Debata competed in her second meet and finished four races successfully: 25 Free and Back, 50 Free and Back. What a nice improvement over her first meet! We were glad to see her making positive strides and adjusting to being at a swim meet!
  • Jehan Dewaraja competed in his second meet and finished four races successfully: 25 Free and Back, 50 Free and Back, including a really nice improvement in his 25 Free to break :30 for the first time.
  • Ryan Jin competed in his third meet and finished five races successfully: 25 Free, Breast and Back, 50 Free and Back. Getting a legal 25 Breast down is huge as there are many hard skills to figure out in breaststroke. He has been working hard at practice and keeps making improvements there!

White Group

White group raced as hard as they had been training. The group made 34 new B times and 1 new BB. We averaged 80% best times in races that had previous times and 88% best times counting new times as best times. Congratulations to everyone.

 Group B

  • Johanna Burg had her first swim meet. She came ready to race and made her first B time. Very impressive!
  • William McDonald was most improved. Two of his races had NT so he couldn't improve any time in them and he still dropped 60 seconds in his other events. Keep it up!
  • Elliot Little has been working hard and showed it by earning his first B time. I can't wait to see more!
  • Kate Ventura is new to Wave and proved herself in her first meet with six new B times. Welcome to A Group!
  • Josiah Suprato had his first meet and made his first B time in the 50 Back. Welcome to A Group and I can't wait to see more!

 Group A

  • Miley Chen had solid drops in A Group races and made two new B times. She is beyond tough in every workout. Keep it up!
  • Agastya Agrawal proved White group can stand on top by winning the 12&U 100 Fly with a new BB time. He also had an impressive back race and dropped more than 10 seconds. Keep up the focus!
  • Pravan Shakya has gone from head up free to making his B time in the 100 Free in just four months. This kind of improvement helps everyone. Keep it up!
  • Sourish Annam earned respect when he made his first B time in the 100 Breast. I can't wait to see the next meet!
  • Jeremy Liu was the most improved in A Group and dropped 50 seconds in his events. He also made a new B time in the 100 Breast. Way to push the limit!

Purple Group

Purple absolutely showed out at the meet this weekend. I was blown away by the athletes; they showed up ready to swim fast and show off their training from the past month. This past month of hard work was able to manifest in best times, new motivational cuts, and swimmers competing in races completely new to them.

 Group A

  • Elijah Guo had a standout performance in his first meet with Wave. Winning 4 out his 5 events, and claiming second in the fifth, he attacked each race with confidence. He acquired multiple BB and B times while also breaking :30 in the 50 Free for the first time!
  • Alex Korolis showed up to the meet ready to perform. In his first time swimming the 400 IM, he notched a B time and an event win. The first words I heard from him were “I loved that race, it was so fun!” This positivity carried throughout the weekend, and he dropped 38 seconds in his 500 Free!
  • Toko Shiotsuki accomplished a major goal this weekend. She will be moving to Japan in the coming weeks and her biggest goal this season was to get a B time in the 50 Free. She CRUSHED her goal and swam a personal best by 2 seconds! In total, she dropped 50 seconds among her five races!
  • Patrick Long built his progress throughout the weekend and capped off the meet with an AMAZING 500 Free. In his first time swimming the race, he showed determination as he raced among, and stuck with, the more developed distance swimmers in his training group.

 Group B

  • Ira Chaturvedi swam four new events this weekend; she crushed the 100 Breast, 100 Fly, and 100 IM, and 50 Breast! Along with those events, she dropped 9 seconds in the 50 Free and 4 seconds in the 50 Back!
  • Kirill Vagin had a tough lineup this weekend full of 200s. He checked in before all his races and developed a strategy that he carried out in each of his races. When checking out, he talked about how he stuck to the plan, and the races went well!
  • Bessie Jiang was a powerhouse this weekend, dropping a total of 33 seconds across six events! She consistently placed among the top of the 12&U age group while only being 10 years old. She also got her first BB time in the 50 Breast!
  • Piper Meier was everyone's cheerleader this weekend. She was the first person to cheer during a race and the first to congratulate her teammates on great swims after they raced. She also won the 11-12 200 Back with an 11 second personal best!

High School

High School started the season off with a bang! Both A and B Groups were able to race hard and see huge results for just a month of training. I’m super proud of the hard work put in from everyone to get the results needed at this meet

 Group A

  • Dima Leonov-Vendrovskiy had a great meet swimming breaststroke! He had huge time drops in his 200 and 100 Breast. He destroyed his 200 time by -13.34. Way to go!
  • Arjun Bhate had some great races. The one he worked the hardest on was the 400 IM. He was able to race that back half like it was a 200! He also gets an honorable mention for his 200 Breast. He was able to drop -7.02. He’s been working on racing that more in practice.
  • Kyra Yuan went 5/6 best times. Her biggest race of the meet is her dropping -10.70 off her 200 Free. She was moving!
  • Ethan Chan had four events he dropped time in. All his races were great to watch. He has been working hard on fixing mechanics and getting faster in all his free events. He was able to drop in his 100 and 50 Free.

 Group B

  • Liam Donnelly is a strong swimmer and shows a lot of promise for the future. This was his first meet. He’s been training hard in practice and was able to set himself up nicely for future meets. Way to go!
  • Anoushka Harsha had 5/6 best times in her events. Her biggest drop and best swim was in her 200 Breast as she dropped -29.66.
  • Thomas Ovendale had 5/5 best times. He has been training hard and intently. Every practice he works on racing and getting better. He had a great 200 IM to watch.
  • Yifan Xu had a great meet. He dropped time in everything he swam and raced the 500 Free for the first time. He was really nervous but was able to come out with a great time. He paced that well.
