EQUIPMENT

Team Equipment Requirements

All OSHY swimmers are expected to have their own equipment after one month of being on the team. The equipment that is used will depend on what group the swimmer is in. It is highly recommended that you write your name or initials on your equipment to prevent it getting lost, stolen, or mixed up with the Y’s equipment.

All groups will need a suit (see guidelines below), goggles, a swim cap (ask Coach Jay if you don’t already have a team cap), and a towel. The Y does have towels you can use, but we encourage you to bring your own. It is recommended that you purchase a swim bag to keep all of your equipment in, for ease of transportation and for use at meets. If you would like to lock your valuables in a locker, you will need to provide your own lock. Phones and other electronic devices cannot be utilized in the locker rooms, but can be stored in a locker.

Dolphin 1 & 2: Kickboard and fins are required. A water bottle is recommended.

Senior 1, 2, & 3: Kickboard, fins, pull buoy, hand paddles, and a snorkel are required. A water bottle is recommended.

Swimmers are allowed to borrow the Y’s equipment until they have bought their own. This means that they can use the equipment during practice, but the equipment must be returned by the end of practice. If you frequently bring Y equipment home with you or misuse it, this privilege may be taken away.

USA Swimming Swimwear Guidelines

Swimsuits must follow these guidelines:

-No (external) strings, clips, zippers, or other fasteners allowed

-For men, the swimsuit should not extend above the navel or below the knees, and for women, should not cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, or extend below the knee.

-Suits must be non-transparent and appropriate.

Meet Equipment Requirements

For swim meets, OSHY swimmers are expected to wear their team suit or a solid, navy blue swimsuit and an OSHY or NKB swim cap. Other suits are acceptable, but for team uniformity we would prefer a suit that falls within these guidelines.

If you would like a team suit or are looking to purchase any of the aforementioned equipment, you can visit our A3 team store here.
