July 19-25 News
This is your River Falls Swim Blast for the week of July 19-25
THIS WEEK (July 19-25):
The Olympics are finally here!!! I am watching the Opening Ceremony as I write the news for this week, and I am excited to see the greatest athletes in the world compete over the next two weeks. This is a great opportunity to showcase the sport of swimming to family and friends, and show off what you all have been working on!
USA Swimming has a great article up that is an aggregator for all things swimming over the next couple of weeks; you can find where and when to watch, medal counts, psych sheets and more at: www.usaswimming.org/Tokyo2020
NBC, the NBC Sports App and Peacock will provide in-depth coverage of all swimming that takes place in Tokyo. Beginning July 24, prelims will begin each morning at 6 a.m. ET and finals will begin each night at 9:30 p.m. ET. If you missed any of the action, head to www.nbcolympics.com/videos/sport/swimming to watch the highlights.
NEXT WEEK (July 26-August 1): This is our second to last week of practices for the summer, join us each day to finish out the season and run through some fun workouts! Thanks for all of your hard work this Spring and Summer!
UPCOMING SWIM MEETS & EVENTS:
We have no remaining swim meets for the remainder of the summer.
Team banquet (pot luck) on Tuesday, August 10 at Hoffman Park!! All swimmers on ALL rosters and their families are invited to celebrate a successful season. Please head to the Meets/Events page to indicate if your family will be coming. In the notes box, add the total number attending including your swimmer so we are sure to have enough chairs.
The planned timeline is:
- 4:00-6:15pm - Games & Social Time
- 6:00-6:30pm - Gather inside for dinner
- 7:15ish - Short Presentation
FOOD: The main dish items will count as a volunteer requirement. Plan to purchase, prepare & bring in a main meal item for 25. Side dishes & desserts are a "dish to pass!" For all items, use the "Optional Contact Info" box to indicate what you plan to bring to help avoid too many duplicates.
VOLUNTEERS: For those still needing to fulfill their volunteer requirement, there are a number of spots here to help. Check them out and pick what fits your interest/schedule best.
Mark your Calendars! Our Fall Home meet is scheduled for November 20-21, 2021! We are excited to be planning for our normal swim meet this fall, and excited to get back into a more regular competition schedule this Fall.
Additional meets for the fall will start to be added over the next few weeks.

SWIMMER OF THE MONTH - JULY
- Each month, coaches look at the swimmers to determine if we have a swimmer of the month.
- To be considered for this, the Coaches are looking for things like a positive attitude, hard work, showing improvement on technique, being on time for practice, listening to coaches, respecting teammates, etc. The swimmer of the month can stop in for a special "swimmer of the month" swim cap!
- Congrats to our swimmer of the month: Dylan Slaght!
HAPPY SWIMMING!
Michael
