August 1st Weekly Newsletter

This is your River Falls Swim News for August 1st!

Action items are highlighted in yellow.

This past weekend the River Falls Swim Club attended the Minnesota 14 and Under State Championship.  Our team had eight swimmers and competed in 11 events.  There were five new individual PRs achieved and one relay team PR achieved.  This week's swimmer of the week is the River Falls Swim Club 200 freestyle relay team, which consisted of Elise Gulick, Sydney Thompson, Kjersten Richter, and Zoe Jarosch.  These four ladies joined forces to eliminate 13.63 seconds off their seed time, which was a 7.8 percent drop, and a new record for the relay team.  Each of the ladies swam their fastest 50 freestyle ever!  Great Job this past weekend!

RFSC will be hosting a Swim-A-Thon fundraiser held on Thursday, August 4th, from 3:00pm-5:00pm.  There will be a cookout and movie in the pool following the Swim-A-Thon (5:00pm-9:00pm).  The funds raised from the event will be used to help replace team equipment (e.g. fins, paddles, resistance bands, etc.) and the scoreboard that is used to run meets.  This event is open to all current and former RFSC swimmers that have a current USA Swimming membership (Yes, Developmental swimmers are eligible to participate!).  So far, we have raised over $5,700!  RSVP on TeamUnify has closed.  To provide an accurate head count for food, please RSVP using this Google Form, here.  Also, if you plan on attending the cookout, please bring a lawn chair to sit in.  We need some volunteers to pull off the Swim-A-Thon this week.  A volunteer signup event has been created and can be accessed here.  We are in need of lap counters, food preparers, and tie dyed shirt makers.  Your help is greatly appreciated.  Fundraising is in progress.

Have you ever considered a volunteer position on deck during a swim meet?  Would you like to have the best seat in the house at your child’s swim meet events?  Meet new friends? Get free entry into the meet?  Free food and drinks while you officiate?  Consider giving back to the swim community by becoming a swim meet official!  We are looking for Stroke And Turn judges, Administrative officials, Starters, and Referees.  Serving as an official completes all volunteer requirements with the club for the year.  If you have any questions about becoming an official, you can contact Robert at [email protected].

Orders for the black silicone swim cap, with the team logo on the sides, were compiled and sent in on July 1st.  THE SWIM CAPS HAVE BEEN DELIVERED!  If you ordered a swim cap, see Coach Michael, Coach Marissa, or the Team Administrator, to pick it up before or after practice.

UPCOMING SWIM MEETS & EVENTS:

The meets for the Summer Session are posted on the Team Events page of the website.
