Congratulations to all of our team record-holders!
We had another strong Winter season for short course in 2024- 2025. Zach May has consistently set team records over the past 3 years. He lowered his own team record in the 15 and Over 50 backstroke from 25.24 to 25.00. Zach has a three-peat of records in the 15 and Over 100 IM. His times went from 2022 - 57.40, 2023 55.49, and this year 2024 went 54.71. Zach now holds an impressive 6 individual and 1 relay WHY records for short course.
Zach May has finished his WHY swimming career this past summer long course season 2025. He had a great meet at this year's YMCA Long Course National Championships in Ocala, FL. He collected 4 more long course team records to make his total 8 long course team records. He first dropped his own 15 and Over 50 back time from 29.32 to 28.55. He also beat his 15 and Over 100 Freestyle time from 54.80 to 54.20. Zach now owns the 50 Fly 15 and Over time at 26.26 that was held by Owen Leary 26.64 on 7/13/22. Zach erased Owen Leary's 100 Fly time of 1:00.71, set on 7/21/22. Zach broke it by 1.83 seconds to go 58.88. He is our first swimmer to break one minute in this event, which is impressive.
So, between the short course and long course Zach now owns an incredible 14 individual WHY team records and one relay record for a total of 15. Zach has left his mark on the Wheeling YMCA team as a leader and on our team record boards. He will continue his swimming and academic career at Bellarmine University this current 2025-2026 school year. Zach will be missed.
