Parent Update

Cassie Erickson

Parents,

Due to the changes with WYSI, we will be making some changes for our out of town meets. Before committing to a meeting we might potentially need (3) officials. The deadline for entries may need to be earlier than one week. The coach will look at the number of swimmers and will see what officials are available to work that meet. All WYSI Clubs participating in any WYSI sanctioned meets are required to provide the following number of officials:

  • 1-9 Swimmers - No Officials (unless you are the Host Club, then it shall be two (2) officials)
  • 10-17 Swimmers – One (1) Official
  • 18-25 Swimmers - Two (2) Officials
  •  26 or more Swimmers - Three (3) Officials
  • If a Host Club does not fulfill their obligation of ensuring adequate minimal staffing of a meet, a fine of $1000 will be assessed by WYSI and invoiced upon completion of the meet. It is the Meet Referee’s responsibility to notify the treasurer to invoice such club.

The coach will contact the hosting team to see if they will be charging $1000 if GST is unable to provide the number of officials that are required for our number of swimmers or if GST cannot find an official to attach to our team. The meet referee for the other team is the one who will decide if they will charge GST. If GST is charged, the $1000 cost will then be split between the swimmers competing at this swim meet. This information will be shared with the parents as soon as possible. If the parents do not want this financial burden then they will notify the coach so that the swimmer can be withdrawn from the meet

We need at least seven more officials. With our officials that we currently have now we are finding conflicts with their jobs, other sporting events, and family obligations. Please, if you are interested in becoming an official here are the steps that need to be taken. I am attaching the Stroke & Turn Official Training Record.  You will need to print this off and take it with you to a swim meet.  When you arrive at the meet locate the Meet Referee and let them know you are there for the training.  They will sign you off as you complete the session(s).  You will also need to go off our website to USA Swimming Registration, and register yourself.  Under the All tab complete a Background Check, Athlete Protection Training, and Concussion Protocol Training. Print off all of these certification completions and keep them in your records. Then go under the Officials tab, and take the Stroke and Turn Certification. Once this is all completed you will have to Attend Stroke and Turn Clinic. Dwayne said he would be willing to help us get this completed or find a clinic to attend.

Just for your information, this is the WY Swimming Policy and Procedures:

  • The Host team is responsible for procuring the following 3 positions: Meet Referee, Admin Official, and the Meet Director; these 3 do not need to be directly associated with the host team. Any club hosting a home meet must also provide two (2) officials for each day of their meet in addition to the three named above. Such officials must be current and in good standing.
  • All WYSI Clubs participating in any WYSI sanctioned meets are required to provide the following number of officials:
  • 1-9 Swimmers - No Officials (unless you are the Host Club, then it shall be two (2) officials)
  • 10-17 Swimmers – One (1) Official
  • 18-25 Swimmers - Two (2) Officials
  •  26 or more Swimmers - Three (3) Officials
  • Each non-host club shall submit the name of the official(s) they are providing at the time their entries are submitted to the Host Club and Meet the Referee. Non-host clubs will have the authority to list officials not registered with their club if they have such official’s consent to do so. It shall be the non-host club’s responsibility to ensure that they have the required number of officials based on the number of total entries over the course of the meet or to have fulfilled this requirement as per the Meet Referee’s discretion. If a non-host club does not fulfill their obligation, a fine of $1000 will be assessed by WYSI and invoiced upon completion of the swim meet. The Meet Referee is responsible for notifying the treasurer to invoice such club.

To those of you that are interested thank you!  I also want you to be aware that this does count as a job duty and you get paid $25/per Session.

If you have any other questions about an official position feel free to contact Dwayne Hunt: 307-660-9103. If you have questions about the charges please feel free to visit with a GST Board Member.
