Safe Sport, USA Swimming and GST

USA Swimming is committed to fostering a fun, healthy, and safe environment for all its members, and in 2010, it formally implemented a comprehensive Safe Sport program to respond to and prevent instances of abuse and misconduct within the sport of swimming.  Since then USA Swimming Safe Sport has worked tirelessly to educate members, put policies in place, and empower LSCs and clubs to create the best possible environments for all members.

USA Swimming is committed to safeguarding all of its members with the welfare of its athlete members as top priority. Safe Sport is USA Swimming’s comprehensive abuse prevention program and provides tools for swim clubs to educate their members and intervene in risky situations

GST fully endorses and supports USA Swimming’s Safe Sport and Safety programs by helping to provide these resources for our club members:

Becoming A Meet/Deck Marshal

In order to be a Meet/Deck Marshal (great job duty during a swim meet if you don't like to sit around) you need to pass the Meet Marshal Exam on USA Swimming as well as get a background check.  Both of these are completed using the USA Swimming Website www.usaswimming.org

Meet Marshal Exam Steps:

  1. Log in to USA Swimming
  2. Click on Education/Course Catalog
  3. Click Parents/Volunteers
  4. Click Meet Marshal
  5. Click View Info
  6. Click Go To Course (this will load your course and you can complete it)

Note: you do not have to finish in one sitting, it will save your progress.

Background Check Steps (must be completed through the USA Swimming website):

  1. https://www.usaswimming.org/safe-sport/complete-a-background-check
  2. Cick Acces Background Check & Log in to your USA Swimming account
  3. Click Go To Course and complete the steps and payment

We are always in need of men & women to fill this job duty and the bigger meets require we have many of each gender during the meets.  It's a great way to still see your swimmer swim and cheer for them too.  Lots of flexibilty in this position.

Safe Sport Training for Parents & Athletes

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO MAKE OUR CLUB A BETTER, SAFER, & MORE PROTECTED PLACE FOR OUR MEMBERSHIP TO THRIVE!

We, Gillette Swim Team, fully endorse and support USA Swimming’s Safe Sport and Safety programs by helping to provide countless resources for our club members on our very own website, www.GilletteSwimTeam.org or these resources can also be found at https://www.usaswimming.org/safe-sport/safe-sport-recognition-program

OUR GOAL, AS A TEAM, IS TO BECOME A “SAFE SPORT RECOGNIZED” CLUB BY USA SWIMMING.  In order to do this, certain requirements must be met.  Some of which include learning exercises for our swim parents and athletes.  WE NEED ALL OF OUR SWIM PARENTS AND ATHLETES TO TAKE A QUICK COURSE ONLINE WITH USA SWIMMING.  USA Swimming will track the number of people that take the quick online training program from our team and we will be awarded points based on our completion rate.  The more parents and swimmers that participate, THE BETTER!

PLEASE HELP OUR TEAM BY TAKING A FEW MINUTES TO COMPLETE A TRAINING EXERCISE THAT WILL HELP TO PROTECT OUR SWIMMERS AND OUR MEMBERSHIP!
