Information on what events to sign your swimmer up for
Have you ever asked yourself "What events should I put my swimmer in"? Here is some information to help you:
- Always communicate with their coach on what they physically can do. Their coach will know if they are ready for certain events.
- Pay attention to back to back events! If you sign your swimmer up for Event 3 and Event 4...they are going to be swimming back to back. They will not swim their best when they have events that are 1 right after the other.
- Always take into consideration when they age up to the next age group (Championship Qualifying Swimmers):
- If your swimmer turns 9, 11, 13, 15, 17 before February 27th...they need to be swimming events in the next age group. You don't want your 12 year swimmer...who turns 13 on February 14th...swimming only 50's all season. They need to swim event in the 13-14 age group.
- Always read the meet information that is attached to each meet to see what the event limit is for each day of the meet. Not all meets are the same. And not all meets charge the same.
- High School Swimmers: You can use your HS season times for Winter Championship Qualifying times. (If you had a current USA Swimming Membership at the time of each swim.) When picking events for club meets...choose events that are NOT offered during HS season. Yes...they can still sign up for the 100 Breast/100 Back...but put them in the 200 Breast, 200 Back, 1000, 1650 etc.
- High School Boys: Please check with your HS Coach to see if you can swim any club meets during your season.
As always...if you have any questions...reach out to me or to your swimmers coach.
