Frequently Asked Questions

  • Where is practice?

Most practices are held at the Marysville Pilchuck High School swimming pool. If the location has changed for any reason, parents will be notified via email and the Team Calendar will be updated.

  • When is practice?

Our practices are generally 5pm-6pm and/or 6-7pm M-F (Fridays are short days!). We also have morning practices for our more advanced swimmers. You can come whichever times/days work for you, even if that is different every week! See our Practice Team Calendar for specific days.

  • Do we have to practice the same days/times every week?

No! You can come whenever works for your family and your schedule.

  • Do you take attendance?

Yes. The coaches take attendance, primarily so we can see which practice times are the most popular and to gauge lane rentals and coach schedules.

  • Are the Marlins part of the YMCA?

No. The Mighty Marlins Swim Club is a nonprofit, competitive swim club that is part of the Pacific Northwest Swimming association and USA Swimming.

  • Does my swimmer have to compete in meets?

Although swimmers are not required to compete, we strongly encourage them to do so. Meets are a great way for your swimmer to learn team spirit, sportsmanship and pride! Meets are the best part.

  • What races should my swimmer swim?

Reach out to the coach and ask what is recommended. We are happy to work with you to recommend the best races for your swimmer's abilities.

  • How do I sign my swimmer up for a meet?

When a meet is ready for sign ups, the website will be updated in the calendar and you will see a red Edit Commitment button. Select your swimmer and Declare them. Then possible events will be listed. Select and save to register.

  • What are my swimmer's best times?

Login, go to My Account, select your swimmer and go to the Best Times tab.

  • How do I know if my swimmer has qualified for a meet?

Kirby will tell you! Aside from that, you can compare your swimmer's best times with the meet requirements, and/or verify at the Pacific Northwest Swimming website: https://www.gomotionapp.com/team/pnws2/page/fast-times/time-standards

  • What is my commitment as a parent?

Parents are expected to fundraise for their child/family as well as commit to a number of volunteer sessions per year. This is outlined in the Parent Contract: https://www.gomotionapp.com/team/wzpnsmmsc/page/membership-forms

  • How do I volunteer?

Similar to registering for a meet, in our calendar you will see green Job Signup button. Select a job in the session you would like. Remember that anyone of age can volunteer in order to get hours for your family, so keep relatives in mind! See our list of volunteer job descriptions: https://www.gomotionapp.com/team/wzpnsmmsc/page/about/Volunteer-job-descriptions

  • What happens if I can't volunteer?

If you are unable to volunteer you will be charged according to the signed registration agreements. Sometimes the board can make considerations if you have already fulfilled more than your obligation. Advanced notice (more than 72 hours) is most helpful. No shows and last minute cancellations will be charged.

  • How much do I have to volunteer?

It is designated in the registration agreements that each family is required to volunteer one session per hosted meet day.

  • How do we join the Mighty Marlins?

After you pass the swim test with a coach, you would need to fill out all registration paperwork and set up billing.
