Mighty Marlin Men Rock at High School District Championships! On to State!
At Finals, in the 3A High School District Swim Championships, Marlin swimmers repeatedly dropped tons of time and improved their placing drastically.
Allen Pringle led the way for the Marysville Getchell Boys. He took 5th in the 200 IM and 3rd in the 100 Breaststroke, and locked up a birth at state in the breaststroke, since the top 4 swimmers in each event qualify for the State Championship, next weekend in Federal Way! Jacob Christy also swam great in finals claiming 9th in both the 200 IM and 100 Butterfly. Cash Hurja scored as well for Getchell, taking 13th in the 50 Free, and 15th in the 100.
Some of the most anticipated races of the meet, at least for us, were the battles between Marysville-Getchell and Stanwood in the 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle relays. Getchell won the matchup in the 200 Freestyle Relay, and by placing 5th, was fast enough to wild card into the state meet. Despite loosing the match up in the 200 Medley Relay, Getchell was fast enough to wildcard to state in that event as well. Both relays for Getchell were swum by: Ryker Lichtenberg, Allen Pringle, Jacob Christy, and Cash (Cha-Ching) Hurja!
Stanwood High School will be well represented at the State Championship as well. Their 200 Medley relay placed 4th earning an automatic bid at State. The team of Gavin Plano, Lloyd Hau, Lennon Bain, and Riley Tallquist swam a very fast 1:43.75 to just edge out Marysville-Getchell. Individually, Gavin Plano took 4th in the 100 Butterfly earning a state bid, and was 5th in the 100 Backstroke earning a wildcard bid to state. Lloyd Hau also earned a wildcard birth at state in the 100 Breaststroke, with a 5th place finish. He was also 6th in the 200 IM. Riley Tallquist scored lots of points for Stanwood with a 6th in the 200 Freestyle and 9th in the 500. Lennon Bain also swam those 2 events and was 9th in the 200 Free, and 10th in the 500.
Representing Marysville Pilchuck, Luke Mullen swam at the 2A District Championship in Anacortes. He made the “A” Final in the 200 IM with a strong 6th place finish, and was 9th in the 100 Breaststroke.
It was great to see so many Marlins contribute to the success of their high school squads.
Way to go Mighty Marlins!
