Marlins Rule at High School District Championships!
Many Mighty Marlins competed in the 2A, 3A, and 4A, Distrct 1 High School Swimming and Diving Championships. At the District meets the top finishers qualified for the state meet coming up this weekend.
For the 2A schools, competing for Marysville-Pilchuck (MP), Hallie Higgins won the 200 IM and was second in the 100 fly. Also swimming for MP, Ava Christensen was 8th in the 200 IM, and 10th in the 100 breaststroke, and Zoey Getty was 9th in the 500 free and 11th in the 50 free. Hallie qualified for the state meet in both her events, and the 200 free relay with Hallie, Ava, Zoey, and another MP swimmer qualified as well.
At the 3A Championship, the swimmers that led the way from Stanwood HS were, Anna Paul with a 2nd place finish in the 100 breaststroke, and a 3rd in the 200 IM, both qualified her for state. Alora de Vera took 4th in the 200 IM and 3rd in the 100 fly, both also qualified her for state. Ryane Wright narrowly missed state with a 5th place finish in the 500 free, and a 6th in the 200 IM. Sophie Plano was 14th in the 100 breaststroke, and Isla Hollingsworth swam well with a best time in the 500 free. Also, for Stanwood, horseback rider, and former Marlin, Sarah Veasey dropped tons of time to take 10th in the 100 fly and 11th in the 100 back.
The relays from Stanwood all made the state meet. In the 200 Medley relay it was Alora, Anna, Ryane and a freestyler. The 200 free relay also featured Anna and Alora with Sophie as well, taking 4th. The 400 free relay was led by Sophie and Ryane as well, and was 4th!
Former Marlins Olivia Otto, Milee Yanagida, and Jenna Muise also did well at the meet.
Representing Marysville-Getchell, Katherine Carlson was a star, qualifying for state in both the 200 free and 100 back, with a 3rd place finish in both. Hazel Perkins also swam well at the meet.
In the 4A meet former Marlins Addison Bowen, and Serenity Watts both placed in each of their 2 events!
