MEET THE COACHES AND LEADERSHIP
MIKE VANSANT I HEAD COACH I NATIONAL, JR NATIONAL, PLATINUM, GOLD
Coach Mike has been coaching swimming for over 25 years. His swimming career started as a DSA Summer League Swimmer with the Shawnee Sharks in Milford DE. He then went on to be a year-round swimmer competing for both Lake Forest Swim Club and Lake Forest High School. Mike then swam at the University of Delaware, helping to contribute to an America East Conference Championship in his freshman year. Injuries got the better of his college swim career, and he turned his focus to coaching.
While attending UD, Mike took on his first coaching job as the head coach at Sanford School in Hockessin DE. After graduation he then moved to Lebanon Pennsylvania and served as the Aquatic Director and Head Swim Coach at the Lebanon Family YMCA. In his time with LEBY he had the privilege of coaching several YMCA National Finalists and PA State Champions. After a few years in PA, Mike decided it was time to return home to Delaware.
Once back in DE, Mike spent 6 years as the Head Coach at Archmere Academy in Claymont DE. During his time at Archmere, Mike coached 3 DIAA State Record Holders, and over 20 State Champions. He then moved on to begin his first stint with the SFY Tsunami Swim Team. Mike spent 5 years as the Lead Senior Group Coach and coached several National Qualifiers, and Cape’s first ever State Champions in the sport of swimming. Mike then moved on to spend 5 years with the Mako Swim Club, helping to grow the team from 30 in his first year to over 200 in his last season on the Mako staff.
Currently, Coach Mike serves as the Head Coach of the SFY Tsunami and Lewes Yacht Club Swim Teams. In his short time with those teams he has seen multiple undefeated seasons, a YMCA Middle Division Championship, YMCA National Qualifiers, and a DE State Champion. He is proud of what has been accomplished by the LYC and SFY swimmers so far and thinks the sky is the limit of what these teams can achieve in the future.
Mike currently lives in Milton DE with his wife Becky, and two sons Carter and Garrett. Carter is a former SFY Swimmer, and Garrett is a current member of the SFY Tsunami Swim Team.
