VOLUNTEERING

Volunteer requirements for this year I believe if we have every family volunteer at all home meets their swimmer(s) participate(s) in, and one away meet or outside function (i.e. swim-a-thon, or poster party volunteer) we should be able to get all volunteer requirements met. If your swimmer participates in a home meet, then a volunteer spot must be filled in order for that swimmer to participate in the meet.

As always if you have any questions or concerns please email [email protected]

Volunteer Positions at Swim Meets

Officials- *Requires certification and must be dressed in uniform during meets* Responsible for verifying that all strokes, turns, and starts are legal during meets. Responsible for ensuring that all rules are enforced and applied appropriately.

We need officials! Please consider signing up. The swim team will pay for official certification. Keep in mind, the more officials we have available to work each meet, the less time each official will spend on deck officiating.

Bull Pen- Notifies/Gathers swimmers to move to Clerk of Course for each event.

Clerk of Course- Organizes swimmers from all teams in chairs according to event, heat, and lane assignments. Then walks swimmers to the pool deck.

Timers- Use a stopwatch to time swimmers during the race and record time for computer entry.

Backup timers- Start stopwatch for each race, and provide watch to Lane Timer if the start was missed.

Concessions- Set up and sell food items and heat sheets.

Clean up/ Set up- Stays after the meet to help with cleanup. Comes the evening before the meet to help with setup.

Meet Announcer- We would like to have two people in the gym announcing the events.

Meet Coordinator- This is usually taken care of by the President of the Parent Board. This person ensures that everything is in place for the home meets.

Swimmer Check in- Has a master list of swimmers entered for meet and is responsible for checking swimmers in as they arrive.

Volunteer Check in- Has a master list of volunteers and is responsible for checking them in. Also responsible for letting the meet coordinator know of any vacancies.

Score Keepers- Enters results from each event into a computer program.

Candy Passer-Hands out candy to the winner of each heat as they exit the pool.

Ribbon Writer/Sorter- Once results are available, writes ribbons out for winners and sorts ribbons by teams.

Hospitality-Manages food and drink supply for coaches and officials in hospitality room.

Runner- Collects timer sheets from timers and disqualifying slips from officials. Brings these to the scorer's table for computer entry.

Lane Manager- Organizes swimmers in order behind starting blocks.

Volunteer options outside of meets:

Meet Photographer- this position will require a background check through the Y as they will be in charge of taking pictures of the swimmers at meets! Would like to get two or three people to volunteer for this so that they can alternate meets, and we can get pictures taken at all meets.  And then will upload to flickr. If you are interested, please contact Coach Matt!

Age Group Liaison- This person would either be a board parent, or someone who is familiar with how swim team works, and can help answer questions that parents in each age group may have.

Miami Parade Coordinator- the Miami meet has a different theme each year, and for the 10 and under swimmers they hold a parade. The meet coordinator would come up with an idea for the parade, and get the kids together to decorate posters for the parade.

Swimathon Coordinators- Swimathon is our biggest fundraiser, and we want to make it an event. We need two people who would be willing to get together and come up with ways to make swimathon more fun. I.E decorating the pool deck, coming up with a theme, getting parents involved.

Swimathon counters- These parents would be on deck counting laps for swimmers during the swimathon. (Yes this counts for hours this year. ;)

Selling banquet tickets- Toward the end of the season, probably in January or February, we will need people to sell banquet tickets during group practices.
