Provincial Trials

Tom Shackel

The Riptides took 4 athletes up to Edmonton’s Kinsmen Centre for Provincial Trials this past weekend, in what amounted to a super fun weekend with great vibes and swimming throughout!

Congratulations to Sydney, Luna, Alison and Len on their qualification and results throughout the meet.

Attitude and effort from athletes was great, Provincial Trials is always a great chance for athletes to test themselves in a really fun format. Since returning the “win and in” for finals, it has seen some great evening racing where athletes try to qualify for championships and the atmosphere is great!

Friday went well, good swims throughout the evening as athletes got into the meet, Saturday we improved and Sunday improved again. I was really happy with how athletes performed and focused on their plans and skills. It paid off with some great best times for athletes. As well as a few finals.

Notable swims and results:

Sydney : 9th in the 50BR, 4 second PB in the 200IM as well as 1s PB’s in the 100IM and 50FR

Luna: 3s PB in the 50FL, 100FR, 100BK and 50BR!

Alison: 11th in 200BR with 5s time drop. Making the A final and a 7s drop in the 200IM, for 5th overall!

Len: Swam her 2nd Champ time needed for qualification! Also 3rd in the 50BK and 2nd 50FL final up from 8th into the final! 2 medals and a great weekends work!

Congratulations to all our swimmers, and we hope to keep pushing to have more swimmers at this meet each year, super fun!
