SCHENECTADY-SARATOGA SWIM CLUB

USA SWIMMING SILVER MEDAL SWIM CLUB

The Schenectady-Saratoga Swim Club (SSC) is a year-round competitive team registered with USA Swimming, the national governing amateur body for amateur swimming. We are the premiere program in the Adirondack District. SSC has made great strides towards being among the best program in the state and nationally-recognized because of the dedicated nature of our swimmers, coaches and parents. Our national level and developing swimmers are supported by a well-organized and purposeful program.

If your son or daughter has the desire to swim competitively and if you, as a parent, can find the time and energy to help support a program your child is participating in, then we welcome you to bring your child to tryouts.

There are progressively increasing time commitments that are made to be a member of SSC. Youngsters who join our program usually begin in groups that require a minimum of 2 to 3 workouts per week and attendance at meets 1 to 2 times per month. This increases as a swimmer progresses through the program and matures. Swimmers that have learned to be disciplined with their time go on to be successful in both swimming and school.

We are a developmental program – from top to bottom. We have no interest in creating the fastest 12-year-old swimmer.  10 year olds are developmental swimmers - 13 year olds are developmental – high school seniors are developmental. It is in that belief that our training philosophies are born. Our program is based on the long-term benefit to the athletes. Keep in mind that a fast 10-year-old does not equate to a happy and fast 18-year-old. The record books are full of fast little kids that didn’t stay in the sport to their teen-age years.

While we strive to do our best at all times, swim meet times are not the only way we judge our progression.  It is more important to us that we teach kids to be coachable, fundamentally-sound athletes with the potential for continued long-term growth.

We will not specialize in strokes or distances. All swimmers going through the program are swimmers – not backstrokers, butterflyers, or sprinters. We will train swimmers to be able to compete in the 400 IM, 200 of stroke and the distance freestyles. Once an athlete conquers those events – everything else is more easily conquered. We will also not wear technical racing suits until the coaching staff sees fit – which is usually at the USA Sectional level or 15 years old.

There are swim meets available for all levels of competition. All USA Swimming invitational meets are on weekends as are any dual meets outside of the Capital District area. Attendance is required of all swimmers at certain meets during the year such as Silver/Gold Championships in March and the District Championships in late July.

The SSC Swimmers generally range in age from 6 to 18 with some college swimmers added during the summer season. Because of the wide range of swimming abilities in our club, the swimmers can be matched to a practice group suited to their skill level. Our program is proud of the number of swimmers who have developed from C, B, and BB swimmers into A, AA, AAA, and AAAA swimmers. One of our major yearly goals is to find youngsters that have a mix of physical ability and excitement for the sport of swimming.

The Schenectady-Saratoga Swim Club offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Schenectady-Saratoga Swim Club to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

Thank you so much for your interest in the Sharks!
