Racers USA Swim Team vs. Racers AAU Swim Team

Which program is right for my child?

USA Swimming

USA Swimming is the National Governing Body for the sport of swimming in the United States. It is a 400,000-member service organization that promotes the culture of swimming by creating opportunities for swimmers and coaches of all backgrounds to participate and advance in the sport through teams, events and education.

USA Swimming membership is comprised of swimmers from the age group level to the Olympic Team, as well as coaches and volunteers.

The Racers USA Swim program is our most competitive program. Here we emphasize commitment and goal setting. We give our swimmers the tools they need to reach their full potential in a practice and competition environment that is encouraging and incredibly fun. Our team members are taught the value of hard work and determination as they strive to achieve new levels of excellence through the sport of swimming. In conjunction with teaching and requiring good sportsmanship and good citizenship, the ultimate goal of our USA program is to build our base by promoting the sport through achievement in competition.

AAU Swimming

The Amateur Athletic Union, or AAU iis the oldest not-for-profit organization in the world and is dedicated exclusively to the development of amateur sports and physical fitness programs. AAU is comprised of 35 different Olympic sports programs, including swimming. AAU provides programs for participants of all ages beginning at the grassroots, or most basic, level. In AAU swimming, striving to be your best is far more important than being the best.  AAU is home to the AAU Junior Olympics, which is the National Championships for the AAU program. Each year local competition leads up to and culminates with this final event.

The Racers AAU program is our developmental program and is grounded in the fundamentals of efficient swimming. We are dedicated to creating a fun yet challenging environment for swimmers of all abilities to grow and refine their swimming. Many kids that participate in this program swim with summer league teams but want to continue working on their skills throughout the school year. Sometimes swimmers have multiple activities that prohibit them from the higher level of commitment required by the USA program. Our AAU team allows such swimmers to stay involved in the sport as their schedule allows. While it is our goal to see all of our swimmers participate in Junior Olympics, what our swimmers gain in our program is much more valuable than athletic glory and much more important than any athletic achievement. The mission of our AAU program is to provide for the physical, mental and moral development of amateur athletes and to promote good sportsmanship and good citizenship that our swimmers will carry out of the pool into the classroom and beyond.

Can I participate in USA and AAU swim meets?  Absolutely! Many swimmers choose this option for the flexibility of meets and the variety of competition. Upon registration, simply select the add-on option to participate in both leagues.
