About Swim Neptune At Swim Neptune we focus on two things: (1) complete development of young athletes from entry-level through collegiate and national athletic settings, and (2) a replicable way to change youth sports for the better. One fundamental difference: our coaches. Great care has been taken to build a team of the most accomplished teachers, people who use their own love for and success in the sport to help each kid realize his/her fullest potential. They know well the competitive fire of wanting to be a champion themselves, but now carry the brighter desire of developing champions. Beyond Laps, Beyond Times: Success Through Fun At the team’s core, we improve stroke technique, increase speed and endurance, and build individual character. These elements lead to faster, more efficient swimming. Just as importantly, they open the door to more enjoyment, fun and possibility. In spite of its size (over 500 swimmers) and many different measures of success, Neptune maintains a culture of big/small family fun. At practice it’s a “small team” where kids get to know each other as friends and not just teammates. At meets, the “big team” atmosphere includes great relays in each age group, kids to cheer for in each heat and energy, excitement and friendship emanating from a large group of like-minded people. A Successful Future “Swimming programs” are underestimated for the “positive consequence” the sport adds to the process of individual character building. In addition to individual skills and work done in the pool, values and character development are key elements. Our goal is for each swimmer to carry the principles of commitment, dedication, teamwork, delayed gratification, sportsmanship, and a willingness to work toward a long term goal from the pool to every facet of their life, most notably the classroom. Swimmers like being recognized and appreciated as individuals with their own goals as part of a group of driven, high-achieving swimmers dedicated to a common mission. They appreciate – or will at some point in the future, if our alumni are any indication – being part of a team that will challenge them to see their goals no only as what they want to have or what they want to do but WHO they want to BECOME in the process. Special programs for special people In an effort to make Swim Neptune a program open to all, we welcome swimmers with disabilities and encourage their participation. Presently we have swimmers with autism, learning disabilities, and developmental delays. We make accommodations for physical disabilities and offer programs for swimmers with physical handicaps. We communicate regularly with the parents of our athletes to ensure that we are meeting their needs. All Neptune coaches are trained to interact positively with all of our swimmers. |
