Beach Cities Swimmers recognized for high school swimming achievements
Congratulation to Beach Cities own Jasmine Margetts and Elle Insure for being featured in the Daily Breeze publications for their achievements in high school swimming! Your club swimming family is extremely proud of your hard work and dedication to your sport.
North Torrance may be new to the swim game, but sophomore Jasmine Margetts may be putting the program on the fast-track.
Margetts finished her season in a big way in the CIF Southern Section Division II finals at the Riverside Aquatics Complex, recording the top finishes of any South Bay swimmer.
Margetts, the Daily Breeze girls swimmer of the year for the first time, took third place in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 4.47 seconds and third in the 100 backstroke in 56.62.
Both were personal-best times for Margetts.
"Our coach has been training us really hard for awhile and I got my best times, so I was pleased with that," Margetts said.
Leading up to CIF, Margetts won every individual event she entered, most by wide margins. In the Pioneer League finals at Beverly Hills High, Margetts' 200 IM time of 2:08.67 broke Kelsey Cummings' 2009 mark of 2:09.55, and her 100 backstroke time of 57.75 broke Payton Perrotta's 2011 mark of 59.99.
"Jasmine is a special athlete with great dedication and work ethic in her sport," North coach Phil Trujillo said. "Jasmine is an inspiration to her teammates, classmates and our school. She is helping put our relatively new swim program on the map."
Margetts, who competes in club for Beach Cities Swimming out of Redondo High, loves representing North High in high school meets.
"It's fun to be on the team at North, it's like a family," Margetts said. "Maybe more will join and get into it here. Maybe we can qualify for CIF as a team soon."
Last year as a freshman in the CIF finals, Margetts took third place in the 100 backstroke in 58.28 and fourth in the 200 IM in 2:07.37, and improved on those times this year.
"Jasmine is a pleasure to coach," Trujillo said. "I can put her in any race and get positive results."
Elle Inscore had a big performance in the CIF Southern Section Division II finals, taking fifth place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.06, and 10th place in the 100 freestyle in 53.06 for Redondo.
