Winter Junior Olympics - Day One
The first day of Southern California Swimming’s Short Course Winter Junior Olympic Championships kicked off today in Santa Clarita, California. Beach Cities Swimming performed in 2 individual events and 4 relays, all timed finals.
Alexandra Crisera swam the first event of the day with a fantastic time drop in her 400 yard individual medley and placing fifth overall in her age group with a time of 4:59.18. The second individual event of the day showcased Nikki Cooper’s 1000 yard freestyle with another best time of 11:17.06 and a fourth place overall finish in her age group. Congratulations Alex and Nikki!! Enjoy your time on the medal stand!
The relays were impressive for the 7-10 and 11-12 boys. The first relay of the day set the bar, and set the bar high! The 11-12 boys 200 freestyle relay was composed of Ethan Smith, Caleb Gorman, Ethan Endicott, and Roger Brown. Each of the boys hit a best time and swam to an eighth place overall finish and a best time of 1:48.64. Such an impressive swim by each of the boys.
The 7-10 boys 200 yard freestyle relay featured Mason McEwen as the leadoff, Ryan O’Shaughnessey as the second leg, Matthew Cullen as the third leg, and Kai Scarlet as the anchor. The boys all raced to impressive splits and finished fourth overall with a best time of 2:01.91. Congratulations on a great race, boys!!
The 7-10 boys 200 medley relay showcased Kai Scarlet in the backstroke leg, Ryan O’Shaughnessy in the breaststroke leg, Bradley Diaz in the butterfly leg and Mason McEwen in the freestyle leg. The boys raced hard and fast to an impressive second place overall finish and a best time of 2:12.79. WOW… Great job boys!!
Nikki Cooper, Shannon O'Brien, Kathryn Doyle, and Lauren Nielsen swam in the Girls 13-14 800 Freestyle Relay and did not place top 8 but did have a few solid splits and a best time from Kathryn Doyle.
Winter Junior Olympics will continue tomorrow with prelims and finals in the 100 breast, 50 back, 200 fly, 50 free, 200 free, 500 free, and 400 free relay. Stayed tuned!!
