SCS Club Championships - Day One
Southern California Swimming kicked of the 2014 Club Championship Meet today at East Los Angeles College. This meet, also know as Super JOs, features the top 32 qualifiers from the Winter Junior Olympic. Those top 32 swim prelims and only the top 8 from prelims making it back later that night to swim again for a single championship final heat. Beach Cities Swimming was proudly represented on day one with stand out swims from Sean Keegan, Kai Scarlet, Kathryn Doyle, Caleb Gorman, Ryan O'Shaughnessey, and Nikki Cooper.
Sean Keegan kicked off the day with a strong swim in the Boys 11-12 100 IM finishing 30th in prelims and Kai Scarlet raced the 5-10 Boys in the 100 IM, earning a spot back for his first ever Super JO finals. He finished 8th overall and represtented BCS on the medal stand next to the best of the best in Southern California Swimming. Great job boys!!
The next event featured a ROCK STAR swim from 14 year old Kathryn Doyle in the 200 back. Doyle dropped 4.8 seconds and finished 13th overall in prelims from a 28th seed. What a great swim from Kathryn!!
First time Super JO swimmer Caleb Gorman and Sean Keegan were up next in the 11-12 Boys 50 backstroke and both dropped time in their swims. Gorman swam to a best time of 31.14 and Keegan swam to a best time of 31.23. Great effort from both boys!!
Kai Scarlet swam and finaled in his second event of the morning in the 5-10 Boys 50 back. Kai finished 5th overall in the event and got to represent BCS once again on the medal stand. Great job, Kai!
The first splash for Ryan O'Shaughnessey was the boys 5-10 100 breast. Ryan swam and awesome race and best time of 1:20.84, a time drop of 2.39 seconds, finishing 9th overall in prelims and locking in the 1st alternate spot for the championship finals. Awesome swim, Ryan!!
Our distance swimmers Nikki Cooper and Sean Keegan rallied for best times in both of their swims. Nikki dropped 5.72 seconds for a final time of 11.11.34. Amazing swim, Nikki. Super star Sean Keegan dropped 24.33 seconds in his 1000 free for a final time of 11.34.55. Sean Keegan, you absolute machine!!
Beach Cities is so proud of all of the swimmers that competed today and is pumped to see more swimmers join us tomorrow for new events and relay swims.
