SCS Club Championships - Day Two
Day two of SCS Club Championships kicked off today at East LA College and Beach Cities Swimming had a great showing from multiple training groups. The day kicked off with Kai Scarlet and Ryan O'Shaughnessey both swimming hard and strong in the Boys 5-10 year old 200 IM. Ryan raced to a 20th place finish in prelims with a time of 2:39.46. Kai was seeded 4th in the prelims but raced to a 3rd place seed for the championship finals. Coming back for finals he swam smarter and stronger, finishing 3rd overall in Southern California Swimming with a time drop of 4 seconds for a final time of 2:25.90. Brilliant swim!!
The next stand out swim of the day came from first time Club Championship swimmer Zach Yakubik. Zach raced the prelims heats in the Boys 5-10 100 yard backstroke. Not only did Zack achieve a best time in his race but he dropped 3 places from his original seeding. Teammate Ryan O'Shaughnessey made his second splash of the day in the same event. Both boys swam hard and represented Beach Cities well!
Kathryn Doyle made her seond appearance at Club Champs today in the Girls 13-14 100 back and was not shy about it. She Droppe 3 places and .59 seconds for a best time of 1:01.10. Great swim, Doyle!
The next event to feature BCS was the boys 5-10 50 fly and Kai Scarlet got the job done. Dropping an overall .52 seconds, Kai earned the 3rd fastest time in SCS with a time of 30.21. Way to go, Kai!
Sean Keegan and Riley Farrell represented BCS in todays distance events both swimming the 500 free in their age groups. Sean finished 27th overall in prelims and Riley Farrell finished 25th. Go Beach Cities!
As always the relays were exciting and didn't disappoint. The Boys 11-12 200 Yard Free Relay featured Ethan Smith, Sean Keegan, Caleb Gorman, and Ethan Endicott. The boys dropped 4.33 seconds off of their time and finished one place lower than they were seeded for 15th overall. The Girls 13-14 Yard Free Relay featured Jennie Bao, Lauren Nielsen, Mary Taylor, and Kathryn Doyle and the girls dropped .83 seconds off of their seed time for a 17th overall finish. The 13-14 Girls 400 medley A team featured Kathryn Doyle, Sophie Kuehler, Haley Winn, and Lauren Nielsen and the B team featured Riley Farrell, Jennie Bao, Sarah Madrigal, and Nikki Cooper. The A team finished 14th overall and the B team finished 17th overall (dropping 2 places from their seed time) and dropped 1.51 seconds for a best time of 4:23.85. Great effort to all of the swimmers that represented Beach Cities in the relays tonight!
Tomorrow Kai Scarlet and Ryan O'Shaughnessey will take to the pool again for their final day of competition. They will be joined by teammate Alex Crisera for her first appearance at this years Club Champs and a new round of relays will commence.
